  • Quiet Nottinghamshire site overlooking a network of peaceful lakes
  • A 15-minute drive/20-minute bus ride from Nottingham city centre
  • Fishing on site; a short walk to Holme Pierrepont watersports centre
Wildlife and watersports in one location? If that sounds like a wonderful mix, nip off to Nottinghamshire and a stay at Copper Fox Camping. This welcoming site is a mere 15 minutes’ drive from central Nottingham – not that you’ll notice the city’s proximity when you’ve settled into one of these peaceful pitches. As the name suggests, this site is centred around its lakes, which provide an attractive backdrop to the pitches as well as the two largest being well stocked with carp, perch, chub and roach for anglers. Day tickets and night fishing sessions are bookable on site. Alternatively, of course, you could simply admire the watery views from your pitch, perhaps grabbing a couple of drinks or getting your barbecue going to provide sustenance while you soak up this serene atmosphere. This is a popular spot for wildlife too, with the Skylarks Nature Reserve next door being a good place to wander along the trails to see what you can see. From here it’s also just a few minutes’ walk to the National Water Sports Centre and Holme Pierrepont Country Park, where you can try out whitewater rafting, paddleboarding and kayaking or hit the treetop trails, adventure playground and miniature golf in the Outdoor Adventure Zone. Walks along the banks of the River Trent are also very close by, or you can stroll to the village of Radcliffe on Trent in about half an hour for food and drinks in one of its excellent pubs.

What customers say

This peaceful lakeside campsite offers beautiful views and abundant wildlife. Guests appreciate the spacious pitches and value for money. Recent improvements include a new, clean toilet and shower block, which has significantly enhanced the visitor experience. While some initial reviews noted limited facilities, newer feedback confirms the upgrade. The site's rustic charm and natural setting are key draws, with opportunities for fishing, wild swimming, and paddleboarding. The narrow access road may require careful navigation.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Fantastic site. Easy to find and soo peaceful. An amazing find!

Arrived and was greeted by Jamie who let us in, we had arrived late due to travelling 4 hours to stay. He showed us to the camping area and even came back later to make sure everything was ok.

The site is very clean and the new toilets and showers are some of the best i have ever been to when camping, and definitely the best for the price point of the campsite.

Entry ways right down to the lake so i went out of my kayak and has a great time paddling around.

Dog Friendly, my 2 labs had an amazing time playing in the water.

There are loads of wild life on the lake, Birds seem to nest on the far bank so there is always something to look at. We had flocks of geese landing on the lake.

I will definitely be back again and look forward to seeing the site grow!

Disliked THE WEATHER! I will make sure to book the sun next time.

Jokes aside there is nothing to dislike. Its a wildish campsite not a hotel.

Liked It is a very quiet and laid back site with beautiful views, there is a converted container cabin with 2 showers and 2 toilets. It looks brand new and they are very clean inside. There is no reception, you have to find the site warden, who is also the fisheries warden. He drives a small red 4X4.

Disliked Sign posting down the country road could be better.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Lovely campsite with great views all around. The actual site was a little tricky to find as the signposting was quite vague, but a quick call to the office solved it immediately and it was well worth it. Plenty of space to find a pitch with a view of the lake and sunset. Toilets are a 2 minute (if that) walk away and were very clean. The site was peaceful and all other guests were lovely. We even went paddleboarding on the lake (with our own equipment) at sunset which was dreamy

Liked Once setup the scenery is really nice, right at the side of the lake. Great location between West Bridgford and Radcliffe

Disliked The entry gate is ridiculously tight for a car and caravan you have to reverse and the lane is busy with bikes and runners so very dangerous if you have no banksman.

Toilets and showers were amazing when we arrived Friday but no cleaning happened all weekend so we're in desperate need of a mop and new toilet roll by the Sunday.

There is no elsan or grey water point so we had to take these home which is not a massive deal but as there are toilets I would expect a drain for black waste really.

Local attractions

Copper Fox Camping is a great location for a break that mixes up countryside and city – as well as fishing on site and outdoor activities at Holme Pierrepont Country Park you may like to play a round at Radcliffe-on-Trent Golf Club (10 minutes’ drive) or take a vineyard tour at Wolds Wine Estate (20 minutes). There are several grand buildings dotted around too, including Wollaton Hall, Gardens and Deer Park (25 minutes) and Belvoir Castle (half an hour), plus family attractions like Floralands Farm Park (half an hour). Sports fans may also like to see if they can catch some actions at Nottingham Forest’s City Ground or the Trent Bridge Cricket Ground (both 10 minutes). For some city time, board one of the regular bus services to Nottingham to see the castle, the National Justice Museum and Nottingham Industrial Museum. Also don’t miss the chance to go beneath the city’s streets at City of Caves, a surprisingly large network that’s been in use since Anglo-Saxon times.
