Wildlife and watersports in one location? If that sounds like a wonderful mix, nip off to Nottinghamshire and a stay at Copper Fox Camping. This welcoming site is a mere 15 minutes’ drive from central Nottingham – not that you’ll notice the city’s proximity when you’ve settled into one of these peaceful pitches. As the name suggests, this site is centred around its lakes, which provide an attractive backdrop to the pitches as well as the two largest being well stocked with carp, perch, chub and roach for anglers. Day tickets and night fishing sessions are bookable on site. Alternatively, of course, you could simply admire the watery views from your pitch, perhaps grabbing a couple of drinks or getting your barbecue going to provide sustenance while you soak up this serene atmosphere. This is a popular spot for wildlife too, with the Skylarks Nature Reserve next door being a good place to wander along the trails to see what you can see. From here it’s also just a few minutes’ walk to the National Water Sports Centre and Holme Pierrepont Country Park, where you can try out whitewater rafting, paddleboarding and kayaking or hit the treetop trails, adventure playground and miniature golf in the Outdoor Adventure Zone. Walks along the banks of the River Trent are also very close by, or you can stroll to the village of Radcliffe on Trent in about half an hour for food and drinks in one of its excellent pubs.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Another stay at Copper Fox - one of our main go-to sites for a true, peaceful stay. Booking is always easy and very reasonably priced. You get what you pay for - no bells and whistles; no complexes or elecric pitches which makes camping, sometimes, really expensive. With the introduction of both toilets and showers on site, amenities are basic, but clean and modern. Cudos to the owners for this.

It was also an experience for our fluffy friends who came with us for the first time! As the site was fairly quiet, they had lots of fun exploring the site and surrounding areas.

The site does not have WiFi, but a good cellular signal and you can use your phone as a hotspot for wireless access if required.

Looking forward to planning our next stay away at the site.

Disliked From our point of view, nothing. We had everything we needed on site, either brought within our setup, or by the basic amenities supplied by the site.

Be nice for people out of the area to have some information about local services (grocery stores, petrol stations, etc.) and attractions, possibly located on a notice board at the toilet block?

Liked Very friendly and welcoming on arrival. Stunning quiet location with beautiful views across the lake.
Toilets and showers were the best we’ve seen on a campsite. We loved our stay and will definitely return.

Liked We had a really lovely stay. The pitch was nice and spacious, and the campsite was peaceful and quiet, which made it a really relaxing place to stay. The table and bench were a really nice touch and made the pitch feel even more convenient. We really enjoyed our stay and would happily come back again!

Disliked The only small suggestion I’d have would be having a bin on site. It wasn’t a problem for us at all as we were more than happy to take our rubbish home with us, but having a bin available would be a nice added convenience for future guests.

Liked Quiet and casual pitches right next to a lake. Couldn’t fault it once we found it. Toilet and shower facilities were excellent. I commend the ‘take your rubbish with you’ policy.

Liked A beautiful lakeside location. Away from it all, calm and peaceful. Good for walking and cycling routes. Great for watching water birds. Clean, modern toilets and showers. Not the sort of site with an office, a shop, a cafe, a kiddies playground etc. Just acres of grass and trees and nature to explore. Can't comment on the fishing, not my thing, but ideal for a quiet break in natural surroundings.

Disliked A bit of a mishap with an attachment to a text message that wouldn't open. Could be my phone. Anyway, a quick response to my phone call sorted everything. Very friendly people who were keen to ensure I had a good stay. Many thanks for your attention.

Copper Fox Camping is a great location for a break that mixes up countryside and city – as well as fishing on site and outdoor activities at Holme Pierrepont Country Park you may like to play a round at Radcliffe-on-Trent Golf Club (10 minutes’ drive) or take a vineyard tour at Wolds Wine Estate (20 minutes). There are several grand buildings dotted around too, including Wollaton Hall, Gardens and Deer Park (25 minutes) and Belvoir Castle (half an hour), plus family attractions like Floralands Farm Park (half an hour). Sports fans may also like to see if they can catch some actions at Nottingham Forest’s City Ground or the Trent Bridge Cricket Ground (both 10 minutes).
