  • Dog-friendly site near Spalding and 20 minutes' drive from Wisbech
  • Outdoor playground; big screens showing major live sports
  • Heated pool and large patio
Hurrah, The Rose and Crown in Holbeach Hurn, near Spalding, is stunning pub site with a village bar surrounded by the Lincolnshire Fens. Families, groups, solo travellers, bikers and dogs are all welcome at this friendly Lincolnshire site. And as the Rose and Crown is one of the last independent breweries in the region, you'll be fairly certain of getting a decent pint too… The pub has all sorts of touches you'll likely like to see in an inn: there's a main lounge and a beer garden with covered seating along with more modern updates like big screens showing Sky and BT Sports. There is also a heated outdoor pool and an outdoor kids' playground. The Rose and Crown is run by Dougie, who wants his guests to have as enjoyable a stay as possible: he's always working on upgrades to the pub and campsite so there's often something new to discover on a stay here… Wifi can be picked up in the pub only (not across the entire campsite), but it can be a bit poor/slow at times because of the rural setting. A supermarket is five minutes' drive away for supplies.

What customers say

This campsite is highly recommended by families, particularly for its excellent children's facilities including a great pool and play area. Guests praise the friendly and hardworking staff, spacious pitches, and the quality of food in the pub. While most visitors have very positive experiences, a few mention issues with toilet cleanliness and the need for some updates to facilities, though the management indicates efforts are being made to address these concerns.

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked Absolutely nothing bar Mark who tried his best to manage a horrific site with bad management

Disliked Absolutely everything. Arrived to an overcrowded site, tents and vans within a meter of each other. We booked hard standing with awning and on arrival was told they didn’t have any hard standing and only grass. No health and safety taken into account. Douglas the owner was dismissive and rude.
The park was run down and over grown.
Pool looked and smelt foul.
Toilet block looked just as bad, didn’t venture in though so may have been a surprise.
If I was to film an apocalyptic film this would be my first choice as a set, nothing needed.
We spend 2 hours on site before finding another site 3 minutes away which was peaceful with fishing and a bar on site.
Wouldn’t take kids either, walked into the bar to 3 blokes on the pool table dropping the c word like it was nothing in front of young kids.
Honestly a horrific 2 hours and so so grateful to the other local site that allowed us on at 7.30pm.

From the manager: Thank you for your feedback. We appreciate you acknowledging Mark’s hard work; our team always does their absolute best to manage the site during busy holiday periods. However, we must respectfully disagree with this characterisation of our park, management, and facilities. You arrived during an exceptionally busy bank holiday weekend. While we always strive to honor specific booking preferences, pitch layouts and allocations can occasionally vary due to safety, spacing requirements, or local ground conditions. On this occasion, we offered your party an alternative grass pitch to get you settled comfortably. Our site adheres strictly to standard holiday park regulations, and our team worked incredibly hard to ensure all pitches were safely and properly spaced. We completely reject the extreme descriptions of our family park, swimming pool, and facilities. Our grounds are consistently maintained, and our amenities are regularly cleaned, inspected, and enjoyed by hundreds of families every season. Furthermore, we maintain a strictly family-friendly environment across our entire site, including our bar area.As you were only on-site for two hours, we are sorry we were unable to find a pitch variation that satisfied your personal preferences before you chose to leave. While we take all constructive feedback on board, we stand firmly behind our management team and our staff's dedication to our guests. We are glad you found alternative accommodations that suited your needs and wish you the best in your future travels.

Liked Nothing, only the road out of the place.

Disliked Toilets were filthy.
The camp was like a travellers camp. Lots of contractors, very scruffy.
Park needs an update.
Pub needs and update. Not very friendly at all and felt very outcast due to the amount of locals. Locals getting served before myself (even leaning over me) no where to sit in the lounge area. Bar area with pool table was very intimidating with locals hogging the table.
Heated pool?? Freezing cold and silt at the bottom so needs a clean.
Basically it would be a good site if someone actually loved the place and tidied it up. Move the contractors away from tourists.
Won't go again. Ever!

Liked The site and staff members. Having a pool on site is a massive bonus and the pub food was good and reasonably priced too. Wifi on the pitch was good and the kids made good use of the play park

Disliked Not so much a dislike more an observation. We went at a very busy time and the site was full. Toilets could possibly have been cleaned a bit more frequently. And perhaps someone keeping an eye on the noise curfew as we had some noisy neighbours a few nights

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked The pitches were well maintained, the toilets and showers were very clean .
And dougie ( the owner I think ) couldn’t help us enough as first time tourers with help and guidance .
The bar was a lot of fun in the evening food was good and well priced

Disliked Not a lot really, a little untidy in places but presumably that’s under construction for new pitches or amenities

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked There is plenty for children to do, swimming pool, gym, park and big screen.
Lovely patio area for a drink while watching big screen or if you have children in the pool.

Disliked Found that people let their children mess about in the toilets hence 2 out the 3 were gross in the morning, really felt sorry for the young girl having to clean them. You needed a card every time you needed toilet or washing up. Found it unhygienic with the chemical waste by wash up area without cover

Route directions

If you are following a satnav, it may well take you down Low Road; ignore this and carry on along Marsh Road, where you will see the Rose and Crown pub (bright yellow) on your right. Check in here, then drive for another 30 yards to reach the site entrance, again on the right. Please don't drive down Low Road as this is only a small lane which tourers and motorhomes find it hard to come down.

Local attractions

You'll find a fair bit to do within a reasonable drive of the Rose and Crown, like Wisbech and its Elgoods Brewery, gardens and maze 20 minutes away, and royal days out at Sandringham within 35. Both Hunstanton and Skegness are within about 45 minutes' drive. Closer to home are two golf courses and Spalding's Springfields Outlet Shopping & Festival Gardens, which also has a tourist point detailing local attractions. Spend a day around the Wash too for birdwatching at Frieston, Gibraltar Point and RSPB Snettingsham and a look at the RAF bombing range where visitors are welcome to watch the aircraft. Historians have the National Trust's Peckover House or the Octavia Hill Birth Place Museum, both in Wisbech, to wander around, and if you have kids along on your hol, they'll probably fancy wanders around Fun Farm, Alley Katz Bowling or the Butterfly Wildlife Park.
