  • Quiet camping in the Wye Valley three miles from the Welsh border
  • On a working farm 15 minutes' drive from the Wye Valley
  • Fire bowls and fuel for hire/sale; lake on site for fishing
Go on and treat yourself to a quiet time at Burhope Farm Campsite, a working farm site near Orcop in Herefordshire, where the scenery is stupendous and the by-night stargazing stellar. Even beginners should get a nibble at the carp-crammed fishing lake here – but if fishing's not your thing, you can simply lie beside the lake or on one of the rustic benches with a book or your own thoughts… When venturing off site, the farm is close enough to Herefordshire's and Shropshire's old market towns and active outdoor options for day trips, but peaceful enough for countryside unwinding and rural strolls in every direction: the Forest of Dean and the Brecon Beacons National Park are both within driving distance and the Wye Valley National Landscape is just a 15-minute drive away. Pitches are in a wide open field with wide open countryside views and access to a drinking water tap every two pitches, plus chemical disposal nearby and grey water disposal. If you're the sort that hopes for first-class amenities on a site too, you're sorted: the centrally heated loo and shower block, disabled facilities and recycling facilities on site are all immaculately maintained. Burhope Farm Campsite welcomes well-behaved dogs.

What customers say

This adults-only campsite is highly praised for its peace, tranquility, and beautiful countryside views. Visitors consistently highlight the immaculate cleanliness of the facilities, spacious pitches, and the exceptionally friendly and helpful owner, Pip. The site offers a dog walking field and a fishing lake. While some guests noted that WiFi and other amenities incur a charge, and access roads can be narrow, the overwhelming sentiment is positive, with many expressing a desire to return. Some minor issues with flies were noted during exceptionally high temperatures, which the manager addressed.

Fully-serviced hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked Beautiful site. Very peaceful and very clean. Also very secure. The owner was really friendly. The showers were excellent and facilities very clean. We had a super pitch, which makes caravanning very easy. The pitches were a really good size too. We paid for the WiFi which was excellent and very cheap too. Excellent value for money and highly recommend. It is adult only, which was great for us and very understandable with the beautiful lake.

Disliked There was no electric car charging facilities and understandably, as the owner charges very little for the electric, you can’t charge your car at the pitch. Unfortunately due to its remote but idyllic location, we had to travel a very long way to get to super fast chargers, which took up half a day for us on our 3 day stay. Hopefully this will improve in the future as more and more people are pushed to buy electric cars for the 2030 deadline and the government will have to ensure sufficient charging is available.

Liked The warmest of welcome from the owner Pip, spacious pitches all making most of the views and sun. Facilities are well kept and clean, Having a dog we found the secure doggie field onsite was just perfect to stretch his legs and ours !. After 3 nights and days of peace and relaxation it was time to go...but not before we booked in for another long weekend break.

Fully-serviced hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked Quiet location, clean facilities, seperate dog walking paddock.
Owner Pip, was a lovely lady.

Disliked Access to site was difficult and a tight turn. WiFi, which you paid for, was really poor.
Dog walking paddock, the access gates were really difficult to open/close and
the grass needed cutting, kept losing the dogs ball!

From the manager: Hi Sharon,
Thank you for your review.
Just a couple of points you made I would like to answer about the internet not being good, you did request a quiet corner away from everything because of your dog and so this pitch was the furthest point away and slightly behind the internet receiver, it is a shame that during you stay you did not tell us about the problem and we would of tried to rectify it, I did speak with you husband on site and he didn't mention anything to me which's I say is a shame it would have enabled us to do something about it possibly.
The dog excise field we always keep well mowed as we do the rest of the campsite but as you would have seen we had tried but the ground at the time was still a little to wet in parts as I got stuck with the mower we have since mowed it as we are now able to travel.
I hope we will see you again in the future and it was nice to meet you both.

Local attractions

History and fishing, canoeing and cycling, pottering around market towns and clambering over old old castles are all handy in Herefordshire, Shropshire and over the border in Powys and east Wales. The fishing in this area is a pull for anglers who come to try their luck at salmon, trout and coarse fishing on the River Wye. Pike of up to 30lb are landed from the Wye each year and it's said by those in the know to be one of the best rivers in Britain for bagging barbel. If you don't fancy fishing, paddle a canoe or kayak along the river on a self-guided or guided trip available from one of the many watersports operators in the area. More canoeing and fishing day trips – and mountain biking, hiking and horse riding – are at the nearby Forest of Dean. Both sides of the England/Wales border have more than their fair share of ancient castles to see – possibly because of all the ancient fighting between the two lands – and really it'd be wrong to come to these here parts without seeing at least one of them. On the English side, thirteenth-century Goodrich Castle, eleventh-century Wigmore Castle and fifteenth-century Hampton Court Castle and Garden (no, not the Henry VIII one) are the ones to view; on the Welsh, go south to super Chepstow Castle or west into the Brecon Beacons for castle ruins at Hay and Carreg Cennen.
