Harrow Hill Glamping: The tents

General

  • Furnished glamping with alpacas on a quiet farm in the Forest of Dean
  • A 10-minute drive from Cannop; 15 minutes from Wye Valley
  • Resident alpacas; cycling and walking trails to follow close by

It might be that you’re looking towards the Forest of Dean for a cycling break or to spot deer and wild boar along your hikes. Or perhaps you're more excited for watersports in the Wye Valley. Whatever your calling, Harrow Hill Glamping in Gloucestershire is a family-friendly site well-situated for it all, in a scenic setting on the edge of the ancient forest in Drybrook.

A few creatures already call this place home. The quiet smallholding has a group of resident alpacas and passing wildlife makes an appearance, from rabbits in the field to squirrels in the trees and buzzards overhead.

Keen to clock in some steps? Handily, you’ll be able to set out on foot directly from the site. There’s a gentle walk around the nearby hill, a favourite haunt for deer, buzzards and wild boar. As for those of you who like to pedal some way, there are many cycling trails around the Forest of Dean that are easy to pick up – no need to drive, just join one of the branches near the site.

Of course, you’ll need some fuel in you first. For your food shop or a meal out, there are lots of restaurants, pubs, cafés and shops in and around Cinderford, five minutes’ drive away.

To help with your prep, the site has a full camp kitchen with gas hobs and an oven, pots and pans, plates, bowls, cutlery and a washing-up point. Other facilities include a dedicated portaloo per tent with warm water.

Please note

Bookings must not be for more than 14 consecutive nights.

Please note that the toilet/shower facilities are unisex.

No naked flames are allowed inside the hired accommodation units.

Guests are advised to bring a good quality torch with them as parts of the site are unlit.

Kids loved the alpacas and the dogs, the tent was great, everything needed was provided. Mark and Susan were brilliant hosts, felt like we were guests at their home rather than a campsite. Location was ideal for access to the forest and Cannop trail centre.

Thank you for your review and are pleased that you and your children enjoyed your stay with the animals being a big hit. As you say our location is just a short distance from Cannop and other trails are just on the doorstep. We hope to see you again next year

Wonderful location with easy walking access to the Forest of Dean. The site is basically in the owners back garden, which felt slightly awkward at first but Mark and Susan couldn't have been more friendly or helpful and we soon settled in. The alpacas were definitely a hit, particularly with my 9 year old.
Great facilities (no showers but that didn't bother us) including the ready to use kitchen tent, which means you can just bring yourselves, clothes and some food. It was our first time glamping and worth every penny not to have to pack up a tent at the end of the holiday!

Thank you for your review and pleased you appreciated all the facilities especially the kitchen tent. We do have showers firmly on the plan for 2022. We and the alpacas :look forward to seeing you again soon

Beautiful location, spotless clean accommodation. Nice quiet location. Hosts Mark and Susan made us feel at home. The Indian restaurant they recommended was well worth a visit. They lent a walking stick to help my youngest who has hEDS to enjoy nearby puzzle wood (we had only bought 1). As a special treat they made my Niece's day being able to walk with the Alpaca's. A little gem of a place to stay. Will definitely return in the future.

Mark and Susan were the friendliest hosts such wonderful people and very helpful - they had everything covered for our stay we couldn’t have asked for anything more! ❤️
The facilities were lovely and clean, plenty of utensils provided for cooking, lots of homely touches too.
Mark and Susan went above and beyond to make our stay special.
The alpaca’s are the most gorgeous animals they all have their own little personality - we loved them!
We lit the chimnea both nights of our stay and toasted marshmallows under the stars (fire wood £5 for a huge bag purchased on site)
There are plenty of scenic walks nearby and historical locations to visit.
We hope to return again soon thank you Mark and Susan for everything! 🏕🦙❤️

We had a wonderful two night break at Harrow Hill Glamping. We stayed in a very comfortable 4-person tent. There are only two tents at the moment, so it was peaceful and quiet. The main attraction was the seven friendly alpacas in the field next to us. We were even offered the chance to walk them, which was fun, especially for my 12 year old. There were also a lot of wild rabbits scampering around and other wildlife to enjoy watching.
The site is the perfect place to relax and unwind. Susan and Mark were very attentive hosts and nothing was too much trouble for them. The separate kitchen tent was very impressive, they had thought of everything that guests could possibly need.
It was our first ever experience of glamping and I would definitely stay here again. It makes a very convenient base for exploring the Forest of Dean. We absolutely loved this place, and will hopefully return soon.

We took the kids down for the weekend and we all had a great time! Excellent set up ran by a lovely family that were only too helpful! The Alpacas are great and full of character !
The kids are already nagging us to go back and my youngest said he wants go back and talk to the farmer man because he taught him lots about the alpacas and local forest animals.
Also very close to numerous family activities and days out
HIGHLY Recommend and can’t wait to go back

Local attractions

You might have already spied some feathered friends in or around the site, but for more bird encounters, The International Centre for Birds of Prey (20 minutes’ drive) has acres worth of footpaths to cover and eagles, vultures and owls in the enclosures.

Keeping up with passing wildlife or racing with the rest of your gang isn’t too tricky along Cannop’s mountain biking trails (10 minutes). In Whitecliff (15 minutes), you’ll have the option of kicking up some more dust on the off-road trails.

Trails are the thing of the Malvern Hills (50 minutes) too, although these are more suited to hiking and cycling (or sticking to the sky for those paragliding pros). The Wye Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (15 minutes) is another place for making the most of earth's big backyard, with more trails and watersports including paddleboarding… a real balance challenge.

To put your brains to the test instead, the ancient woodland at Puzzle Wood (15 minutes) has puzzles to figure out. Goodrich Castle (15 minutes) will tend to your curious side, as it’s one of a few local historical sites, including Gloucester’s (half an hour) Victorian docks (a place for more watersports) and cathedral.

Must see

  • Goodrich Castle (4.8 miles)
