  • Furnished glamping with alpacas on a quiet farm in the Forest of Dean
  • A 10-minute drive from Cannop; 15 minutes from Wye Valley
  • Resident alpacas; cycling and walking trails to follow close by
It might be that you’re looking towards the Forest of Dean for a cycling break or to spot deer and wild boar along your hikes. Or perhaps you're more excited for watersports in the Wye Valley. Whatever your calling, Harrow Hill Glamping with Alpacas in Gloucestershire is a family-friendly site well situated for it all, in a scenic setting on the edge of the ancient forest in Drybrook. A few creatures already call this place home. The quiet smallholding has a group of resident alpacas and passing wildlife makes an appearance, from rabbits in the field to squirrels in the trees and buzzards overhead. Keen to clock in some steps? Handily, you’ll be able to set out on foot directly from the site. There’s a gentle walk around the nearby hill, a favourite haunt for deer, buzzards and wild boar. As for those of you who like to pedal some way, there are many cycling trails around the Forest of Dean that are easy to pick up – no need to drive, just join one of the branches near the site. Of course, you’ll need some fuel in you first. For your food shop or a meal out, there are lots of restaurants, pubs, cafés and shops in and around Cinderford, five minutes’ drive away. To help with your prep, the site has a full camp kitchen with gas hobs and an oven, pots and pans, plates, bowls, cutlery and a washing-up point. Other facilities include a dedicated portable toilet per tent with warm water and shared shower facilities.

Woodpecker bell tent (four person)

Liked Stayed here with my 2 sons (13 and 10) for 2 nights, as we were mountain biking in the Forest of Dean (which is brilliant, by the way!). Great location for us, as only 10 minutes from the Cycle Centre. Hosts were very welcoming and everything was clean and set up for us. In reality, we didn’t need to take anything, as the kitchen has everything you need, including a cool box with ice packs for storing fridge stuff. We hired a barbecue for the 2nd night to cook outdoors, charcoal provided too. Quiet location, only 2 tents and we had the far one, everything we needed in there and a picnic bench outside. Met the alpacas, who are very friendly and saw plenty of rabbits too! Nice to have your own portaloo, the shower was great (and warm!) and it felt like a safe location, left the bikes locked up in the back of our pick-up on the drive overnight. Didn’t explore the area on foot, as we were cycling for the 3 days. Cinderford is 10 minutes away, which has a handy Lidl and Indian takeaways but didn’t see much else (maybe it has but didn’t need anything whilst we were there). Easy camping, as it’s a really well equipped site and a quiet area 👍

Disliked The beds weren’t the best in the tent we had (and I know it’s camping!) and maybe it’s just us but 2 nights was our limit.

Woodpecker bell tent (four person)

Liked Harrow Hill Glamping has everything you need, the owners have a tent with all gas based cooking facilities including an oven. All utensils, I bought loads and didn't need them as I thought having young children they wouldn't have plastic but they'd thought of everything. Our eldest who is 4 loved the alpacas and it was his highlight every morning trying to feed them. It's a great location to explore other areas. Towels were also provided. Beds were comfy and our children slept better than they do at home.

There was a portaloo for your own tent during the stay and the owners have made a shower for your stay, it was warm and did the job.

The owners had left some books for our children and were very patient with them considering we aren't quiet!

Woodpecker bell tent (four person)

Liked Have stayed here before it's a great little site with a warm welcome.
And a lovely quiet spot.
My daughters love feeding the Alpacas and talking to the ducks.
Also there were visits from local wildlife such as Rabbits and owls nearby.
It's about 5-10min drive to many of the local amenities and attractions and a good base for the local area .

From the manager: Thank you very much for the review. It was lovely to see you and the children again, we're pleased the children still enjoyed feeding the Alpacas.
Looking forward to seeing you again soon

Local attractions

Keeping up with passing wildlife or racing with the rest of your gang isn’t too tricky along Cannop’s mountain biking trails (10 minutes). In Whitecliff (15 minutes), you’ll have the option of kicking up some more dust on the off-road trails; expert 4x4 driving tuition is also available. Trails are the thing of the Malvern Hills (50 minutes) too, although these are more suited to hiking and cycling (or sticking to the sky for those paragliding pros). The Wye Valley National Landscape (15 minutes) is another place for making the most of earth's big backyard, with more trails and watersports including paddleboarding… a real balance challenge. Alternatively, head to Puzzle Wood (15 minutes) to wander through the trees. Goodrich Castle (15 minutes) will tend to your curious side, as it’s one of a few local historical sites, including Gloucester’s (half an hour) Victorian docks (a place for more watersports) and cathedral.
