Harrow Hill Glamping: ⛺️

General

  • Furnished glamping with alpacas on a quiet farm in the Forest of Dean
  • A 10-minute drive from Cannop; 15 minutes from Wye Valley
  • Resident alpacas; cycling and walking trails to follow close by

It might be that you’re looking towards the Forest of Dean for a cycling break or to spot deer and wild boar along your hikes. Or perhaps you're more excited for watersports in the Wye Valley. Whatever your calling, Harrow Hill Glamping in Gloucestershire is a family-friendly site well-situated for it all, in a scenic setting on the edge of the ancient forest in Drybrook.

A few creatures already call this place home. The quiet smallholding has a group of resident alpacas and passing wildlife makes an appearance, from rabbits in the field to squirrels in the trees and buzzards overhead.

Keen to clock in some steps? Handily, you’ll be able to set out on foot directly from the site. There’s a gentle walk around the nearby hill, a favourite haunt for deer, buzzards and wild boar. As for those of you who like to pedal some way, there are many cycling trails around the Forest of Dean that are easy to pick up – no need to drive, just join one of the branches near the site.

Of course, you’ll need some fuel in you first. For your food shop or a meal out, there are lots of restaurants, pubs, cafés and shops in and around Cinderford, five minutes’ drive away.

To help with your prep, the site has a full camp kitchen with gas hobs and an oven, pots and pans, plates, bowls, cutlery and a washing-up point. Other facilities include a dedicated portaloo per tent with warm water and shared shower facilities.

Please note

Bookings must not be for more than 14 consecutive nights.

Please note that the toilet/shower facilities are unisex.

No naked flames are allowed inside the hired accommodation units.

At least one of the party members must be aged 18 or over.

No gas barbecues allowed.

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work-related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

Discount cards and gift vouchers cannot be applied to bookings made via Pitchup.com.

No electric barbecues allowed.

No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

We have just got home from a weekend at harrow hill and it was beautiful. The hosts Susan & Mark were very welcoming nothing was too much for them. The alpacas are beautiful & very friendly, infact our son made a new friend called Leo the alpaca. No wi-fi but that wasn’t a problem at all as we wanted a weekend to switch off. If we are ever in the area again we will definitely be staying at Harrow Hill. Thank you once again Susan & Mark.

Wow just had 2 nights away here and loved every minute! Welcomed by friendly owners who gave us a tour and to meet the Alpacas. So peaceful and relaxing atmosphere and enough space to have a BBQ, play games, chat to the Alpacas and have a peaceful night's sleep. My 8 and 10 year old girls really loved waking up to seeing the Alpacas from our tent and chatting with the Owers finding out lots of facts about them! We'll be back! Tents were so comfy and they'll be everything you'd possibly need. THANK YOU FOR A WONDERFUL STAY.

Kids loved the alpacas and the dogs, the tent was great, everything needed was provided. Mark and Susan were brilliant hosts, felt like we were guests at their home rather than a campsite. Location was ideal for access to the forest and Cannop trail centre.

Wonderful location with easy walking access to the Forest of Dean. The site is basically in the owners back garden, which felt slightly awkward at first but Mark and Susan couldn't have been more friendly or helpful and we soon settled in. The alpacas were definitely a hit, particularly with my 9 year old.
Great facilities (no showers but that didn't bother us) including the ready to use kitchen tent, which means you can just bring yourselves, clothes and some food. It was our first time glamping and worth every penny not to have to pack up a tent at the end of the holiday!

Beautiful location, spotless clean accommodation. Nice quiet location. Hosts Mark and Susan made us feel at home. The Indian restaurant they recommended was well worth a visit. They lent a walking stick to help my youngest who has hEDS to enjoy nearby puzzle wood (we had only bought 1). As a special treat they made my Niece's day being able to walk with the Alpaca's. A little gem of a place to stay. Will definitely return in the future.

Local attractions

You might have already spied some feathered friends in or around the site, but for more bird encounters, The International Centre for Birds of Prey (20 minutes’ drive) has acres worth of footpaths to cover and eagles, vultures and owls in the enclosures.

Keeping up with passing wildlife or racing with the rest of your gang isn’t too tricky along Cannop’s mountain biking trails (10 minutes). In Whitecliff (15 minutes), you’ll have the option of kicking up some more dust on the off-road trails.

Trails are the thing of the Malvern Hills (50 minutes) too, although these are more suited to hiking and cycling (or sticking to the sky for those paragliding pros). The Wye Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (15 minutes) is another place for making the most of earth's big backyard, with more trails and watersports including paddleboarding… a real balance challenge.

To put your brains to the test instead, the ancient woodland at Puzzle Wood (15 minutes) has puzzles to figure out. Goodrich Castle (15 minutes) will tend to your curious side, as it’s one of a few local historical sites, including Gloucester’s (half an hour) Victorian docks (a place for more watersports) and cathedral.

Must see

  • Goodrich Castle (7.7 kilometres)
  • WWT Slimbridge Wetlands Centre (14.0 kilometres)
  • Caldicot Castle & Country Park (14.4 kilometres)

National Trust

  • Westbury Court Garden (7.6 kilometres)
