  • Family site on an organic farm 10 minutes’ drive from Cirencester
  • Chedworth Roman Villa 25 minutes’ drive; Cotswold Farm Park 35 minutes
  • Off-grid; well-stocked licensed shop and café; ebike hire
Once you arrive at Abbey Home Farm, 10 minutes’ drive from Cirencester, there’s absolutely no need to move off the site for the duration of your Gloucestershire stay. Why would you ever leave this 1,600-acre farm? Let’s start with the stunning views over Cotswolds fields, and move on to the organic farm shop packed with home-grown fruit and veg. It also sells dairy produce and meat from the farm cows for barbecues (bring your own from home), and – even better – it’s licensed too. There’s also a popular café that's just the spot for coffee to kick-start the day, plus homemade cakes and veggie lunches. All of this is within a 10- to 15-minute gentle stroll of the remotest holiday spots within the farm's woodlands and fields. The farm site is off-grid, with simple facilities including drinking water straight from a farm borehole, washing-up sinks, gas showers and compost loos tucked into the woods. And to top that, everything is crafted from reclaimed or recycled materials. There are wheelbarrows to roll gear in should you need it, as the pitches are spread all over the farm. Just one thing to remember: this site is not party central, so no noise after 10pm please.

Non-electric grass tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Stayed for me to check in late. Great looking farm shop. Secure gate access to hidden site. Two areas, one for vehicle next to tent camping and one vehicles park and walk to pitch, not far though. Best views in the latter. Camping on standard meadow with the most dandelions I have ever seen, sound of a skylark, other birds, etc. Peaceful. Woodland, farmland walks. Good access to Cirencester, main roads, south Cotswolds area. I drove to Cheltenham quite quickly without issue.

Disliked: Bumpy track! But helps you drive slowly. :-)

Non-electric grass tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch

Liked: The place is amazing. Very good views of the mountains. Flushable toilets which is a plus not all campsites have a flush system.

Disliked: As usual people making noise either in the morning or night. But that’s no fault of the place

Non-electric grass tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Just back from an Easter Bank holiday weekend stay at Abbey Home Farm, we loved it so much that we booked another night to extend our break. Maya is a legend and cannot do enough to ensure you are welcomed and have everything you need. I have never seen such clean compost loos and showers (considering these are in the woods) which totally adds to the charm! I would defiantly say rent a fire pit, as it’s such a beautiful setting you want to sit outside as long as you can! Ignore any rubbish reviews, as that type of person needs to be in a 5 star hotel with grey walls and never speaking to their neighbours! We will defiantly return and can’t wait for when that will be!

Disliked: Seeing a rude guest wanting to sneak a dog into the site when this is clearly a dog free zone due to the live stock!

Non-electric grass tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch

Liked: We stayed in a grassy car park area instead of the camper van spots due to the rain making the grass to wet, we were told this before we arrived and given the opportunity to get a full refund however it didn’t matter to us. The camp site was lovely the facilities are quirky and fun. Really enjoyed our time there and would definitely recommend and stay there again.

Local attractions

Keen to explore the area on two wheels? Rent a bicycle from Cotswold eBikes on site, and set off down quiet rural roads to pretty villages built of mellow stone in the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (20 minutes’ ride). If you’ve got kids on board, make for the lakeside beach and floating inflatables at Cotswold Country Park and Beach (40 minutes), or let them burn off more energy on paddleboards and kayaks at Lake 32 Outdoor Centre (35 minutes). When only cuddling animals will do, it’s time to head to Cotswold Farm Park (35 minutes’ drive), to bottle-feed lambs, baby goats and piglets, see rare-breed farm animals and take tractor rides. In search of a bit of Cotswolds history? You’ll find it among the fourth-century AD Roman ruins at Chedworth Roman Villa (25 minutes’ drive), where you can admire ornate floor mosaics and the Roman version of central heating. If your interest is piqued, you can see more local Roman finds at the Corinium Museum (10 minutes), which has fine displays of sculpture, mosaics and jewellery.
