Mead Hut cabin (no electricity)

Liked I went for a solo meditation retreat and it was absolutely spot on. Very secluded and isolated. Literally didn’t see anyone for the three days I was there; I just read, meditated and sat by the fire pit. I had a lot of fun collecting firewood in what felt like my own, private woodland. It was very pleasant getting the log burner going at sunrise, getting the door open, drinking tea, listening to the birds and watching the sheep and horses wake up from bed. I went without electricity and would probably take an oil lamp next time as opposed to just candles; it is quite spooky walking through the woods at night just by candlelight! Left my phone in the car, but plenty of signal there when I turned it on at the end.

Mead Hut cabin (no electricity)

Liked We stayed in the mead hut, it was located in the middle of a wood that faced a field with cows and a bull grazing. The location was truly beautiful and the wood we was in was only for us we chopped wood for our fire and could really get in touch with nature.
The farm is massive your located a good mile from the actual campsite the hut had it’s own fresh water tap and its own toilet but no shower we just used a bucket and threw it over each other which we didn’t mind as the wood was secluded others may wish to drive down to the campsite and take a shower.
The toilet was basic just a little shack facing the field and cows with a toilet seat and long drop I didn’t mind but can understand why others wouldn’t like it.
Finally the farm shop and cafe we didn’t use the cafe but the farm shop was brilliant we bought the farm meat every night for our bbq it was delicious!

Disliked In the hut there are some maps provided with walks we tried to undertake the village pub walk, but the map was very confusing especially when it states totem pole which is at the main camp site which was a good half hour walk by itself after walking 2 hours getting lost we decided to walk back and get the car which I was glad we did as the village pub we went too was more of a restaurant so we had a little lunch a moved on.

What customers say

This site offers a peaceful, back-to-nature camping experience with stunning views. Guests praise the friendly staff, well-stocked farm shop, and the tranquil atmosphere, ideal for relaxation. Basic eco-friendly facilities, including compost toilets and woodland showers, are a feature. While many appreciate the rustic charm, some find them challenging, particularly regarding toilet paper and occasional temperature fluctuations in showers. Access tracks and the campervan field's views are occasionally mentioned.

Liked Amazing space, the entire farm and project. The views, food, woodland, eco care for the farm and land. The water is from a bore, so clean living water is amazing.
It all made for a gorgeous peaceful stay.

Disliked Cafe was slow and confusing without a menu but the produce, staff and shop are really all lovely.

Green Field non-electric grass campervan, tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked I enjoyed it. Pretty laid back here. I liked how it was peaceful and relaxed check out time.

Compost toilets better than I expected. They at least had a toilet lid.

Disliked Two outdoor showers in a kind of shed. However the middle part (all around in general) is high but not enough. Twice the tall guy in the cubicle looked over. Once i can understand maybe a mistake but also why would you look when you know the door was shut? But he did it a second time later so actually I have taken off stars for this because structurally it can be addressed.

Either the shower walls need to be higher or male and female showers separated .

Toilets smelled easily but for a short amount of time it’s not too bad.

Also it is zero waste which is great so take all rubbish home. For us just one night it wasn’t a huge deal but if we stayed longer we wouldn’t know where to take all the rubbish.

I’m not sure if I would stay again mainly cause the shower was uncomfortable.

Green Field non-electric grass campervan, tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked View is stunning and the location is great being close to the town and in the middle of a countryside.

Disliked Road to the campsite is rough, facilities are the bare minimum (no toilet paper, only two showers available, no hand wash). I agree with the others that everyone ends up buying soap and toilet roll which will be wasted, also it’s not very hygienic (considering we are in the century of covid etc). I would have preferred just going into the woodlands somewhere. It would have been more hygienic.

From the manager: Hi, sorry to hear you weren't happy with the facilties. We do say we are a very basic campsite and on pitch up it says that there are two showers and BYO loo roll. There is a tap for handwashing at the loos, but as a very basic site, guests bring their own soap. We understand that this more wild camping style is not for everyone. But so glad you enjoyed the views and location. With best wishes, AHF

Local attractions

Keen to explore the area on two wheels? Rent a bicycle from Cotswold eBikes on site, and set off down quiet rural roads to pretty villages built of mellow stone in the Cotswolds National Landscape (20 minutes’ ride). If you’ve got kids on board, make for the lakeside beach and floating inflatables at Cotswold Country Park and Beach (40 minutes), or let them burn off more energy on paddleboards and kayaks at Lake 32 Outdoor Centre (35 minutes). When only cuddling animals will do, it’s time to head to Cotswold Farm Park (35 minutes’ drive), to bottle-feed lambs, baby goats and piglets, see rare-breed farm animals and take tractor rides. In search of a bit of Cotswolds history? You’ll find it among the fourth-century AD Roman ruins at Chedworth Roman Villa (25 minutes’ drive), where you can admire ornate floor mosaics and the Roman version of central heating. If your interest is piqued, you can see more local Roman finds at the Corinium Museum (10 minutes), which has fine displays of sculpture, mosaics and jewellery.
