  • Gloucestershire family campsite with Cotswold Hills views
  • A 15-minute drive to Cotswold Farm Park; 30 minutes to Blenheim Palace
  • Five minutes’ drive to Stow-on-the-Wold; bus service nearby
Along with a spacious grass camping ground (as one might expect of sporting pitches), Stow-on-the-Wold Rugby Club has some seriously eye-catching views of the Cotswold Hills. This site is in a fab location just outside the historic village of Stow-on-the Wold in Gloucestershire, making it a smashing spot for family rambles, touring and gallivanting all over the Cotswolds. From the hilltop pitches you can walk for miles on local footpaths without going near a road (thus making this a cracking base for cyclists too), and if you’re keen to get on the golf course, you can book a round at Naunton Downs Golf Club (10 minutes). Eager to do some city sightseeing but prefer to leave the vehicle behind? No worries, a local bus service leaving from the local village of Oddington (a short walk away) can whisk you off to theatreland in Stratford-upon-Avon (40 minutes) or the dreaming spires of Oxford (55 minutes). Back on site, simple facilities include showers, toilets and a wifi connection (around the clubhouse) so you can keep in touch with the folk back home. Stow (five minutes’ drive) has cafés, bars and a couple of small and handy stores for basics. For more amenities, the best stop is Moreton-in-Marsh (15 minutes) for markets, pubs, supermarkets and indie shops. It’s also got a mainline rail station with services to London.

What customers say

This campsite offers a peaceful rural escape with beautiful views and friendly staff. Pitches are spacious, and facilities, including portacabin showers and toilets, are generally clean and well-maintained, although some guests noted a slope. Easy access to local villages like Stow-on-the-Wold is a highlight. While the clubhouse may not always be open, the site provides a good value base for exploring the Cotswolds.

Liked Good little stopover with good facilities

Disliked My van was covered in Ants when we woke up...never had this anywhere before and we had just done 2 weeks touring Cornwall and not had anything like it.

From the manager: Hi Nick,

Thank you so much for your lovely review. I’m really pleased you enjoyed your stay and found the site a good base for your travels.

I’m sorry you were unlucky enough to wake up to an ant-covered van! 🐜 It’s not something we’ve had an issue with before, so I think you were just unfortunate on this occasion — sometimes nature has a way of making itself known! 😄

Thank you again for choosing to stay with us, and we’d love to welcome you back again in the future.

Best wishes,

From the manager: Hi,

Thank you so much for your lovely review. It was a pleasure to have you stay and I’m really glad I was able to help.

I’m sorry there were yapping dogs when you were here. It doesn’t happen all the time, but some dogs do like to make themselves a little more known than others! 😄

It was lovely to meet you and I hope we’ll see you back again in the future.

Non-electric grass touring pitch

Liked We had a lovely one-night stay at Stow Rugby Club in our camper van. The facilities are basic but very clean, and the site is well maintained with beautiful views.

There are some great walks from the site into Stow-on-the-Wold, making it a fantastic base for exploring the Cotswolds. The host (Vicky) was absolutely lovely— incredibly friendly and welcoming.

A great location, peaceful setting, and excellent value for a simple overnight stay. We’d happily stay again!

Non-electric grass touring pitch

Liked Vicky was very welcoming and informative. She came to every pitch on Friday night to introduce herself and make sure everything was OK and was on hand if there were any issues.

Disliked Rugby club not open as advertised but Vicky did explain that she had spoken with them and it was not always viable to keep it open as not enough people used it.
Ideally I would prefer Showers where the shower head is removable. These were fixed above and as the cubicles were not very big is was difficult to avoid getting hair wet.

From the manager: Hi Carole,

Thank you so much for your lovely review. It was a pleasure meeting you both, and I’m really pleased you enjoyed your stay.

Thank you as well for your feedback about the showers. It’s something we can take into consideration going forward, if it may be an option.

We’d love to welcome you back again in the future.

Liked Very good value. Vicky was really helpful. Showers and toilets were lovely and clean. Bar was good too.

Disliked Hard to find a flat pitch. Shame when there's a lovely flat rugby pitch just a few feet away 😂

From the manager: Hi Andora,

Thank you so much for your lovely review. I’m really pleased you enjoyed your stay and found the facilities clean, and it’s great to hear you felt the site was good value too.

We do have some sloping areas across the camping field, so I completely appreciate that finding a level pitch can sometimes be a bit tricky — especially with that lovely flat rugby pitch sitting just a few feet away! 😂

It was a pleasure to have you stay, and we’d love to welcome you back again in the future.

Vintage cars are displayed at Cotswold Motoring Museum in pretty Bourton-on-the-Water (15 minutes), where you can also picnic by the Windrush river. And of course, monumental Blenheim Palace (30 minutes) is a day trip in itself, with Capability Brown-designed parkland to wander, fine apartments to explore and all manner of outdoor activities. There are loads of delightful, mellow-stone Cotswold villages to nose around, including Chipping Campden (20 minutes), Broadway and Burford (both 25 minutes).
