What customers say

This is a small, well-maintained adult-only touring site located behind a traditional pub in a quiet village. Pitches are spacious hardstanding with grassed areas and picnic tables. Guests highlight the friendly and welcoming owners and staff, the excellent food at the adjacent Chequers Inn (pre-booking essential), and the convenient location close to the M1. Toilets in the pub are clean and accessible 24/7. Limited facilities, such as no showers, are noted, but many visitors feel this is a minor issue given the overall positive experience. The site is highly recommended for stopovers and short breaks.

Liked Lovely, peaceful site…

We had a fantastic stay at Irondale Touring Caravans and Campsite. The site is beautifully kept, and set in really peaceful surroundings — perfect for a relaxing break. The pitches were level and well maintained, and it was great to have access to electric hook-up and a pub on site.

The owner was welcoming and helpful throughout our stay, making sure everything was just right.
The location is also ideal — a lovely countryside setting but still close to local amenities and places to explore.

We will definitely recommend Irondale to anyone looking for a quiet, friendly, and well-run site, and I’ll happily stay again.

Electric hardstanding and grass pitch

Liked We were looking for an overnight stop to break up our journey down south. The site is conveniently located a short distance from the M1, behind a pub in a quiet little village. Lovely spot to spend a night with the pub, if you need it, on the doorstep. It is a place that we will use again when passing and the area is worthy of further exploring when we have more time. Water at the gate and grey waste on all of the pitches. Good communication with the site owner including a copy of their menu for the pub.

Electric hardstanding and grass pitch

Liked Lovely little village with lots of green space all around, plenty of areas to walk dogs or just go walking if you do that sort of thing.
Everything you need was there, big pitch close to the water and elsan tank. Then walk into the pub for some great food and beer, stagger back after into your caravan. The landlady was also brilliant, contacted me on the day of arrival to tell me which pitch i was on. She also has a Harrow Haw called Ken on site who sits and watches over you, a beautiful creature. There is also toilets a short walk away if you don't use what's in your caravan, these are open 24/7.

Overall, a very very good little site, not far from Nottingham or Derby and was the perfect location for us to stay to see my parents a few miles away.
We are 100% going back, very soon.

Local attractions

Do a round of the greens at Erewash Valley Golf Club (20 minutes' walk), a well-kept local club with fab tree-lined fairways that's easily accessible on foot. Other outdoor pursuits around here include fishing, with the nearest angling spot about five minutes' drive away, and birdwatching – Attenborough Nature Centre (20 minutes) may be named after the nearby village rather than the TV presenter, but it's still a prime pick for a spot of ornithology. Nottingham city centre (20 minutes) is next up, for a castle, shopping centres and the interactive National Justice Museum. (Rather not drive around town? Pull up to one of the city's park and rides and take the tram instead.) On the outskirts of Nottingham is Wollaton Hall (20 minutes), an Elizabethan country house with a deer park and formal gardens. (Remember Batman's mansion in The Dark Knight Rises? Yep, that was filmed here.) Heading towards the Peak District National Park (from 45 minutes) is also on the cards, whether you opt for Derbyshire dalliances in the grounds of Chatsworth House (an hour) or old-time amusements and riverside walks in Matlock Bath (45 minutes).
