Dart off to Derbyshire and make for Irondale Touring Caravans and Campsite in Stanton by Dale, a well-kept site attached to an award-winning pub. The name of this spot is a nod to Stanton's industrial heritage – if the village rings a bell, it may well be because 'Stanton' crops up on many a manhole cover across the UK. Nowadays, things are peaceful around here, and the site is set between traditional red brick houses and a small village green. The Chequers Inn is over 200 years old and still in fine fettle – its selling point remains its focus on real ales and proper home-cooked food. The pub, like the site, is mightily dog-friendly, so don't hesitate to bring four-legged friends along on your trip. The pitches here are level, well-drained and conveniently located to the rear of the pub. Although it's close to the M1, off-site strolls are unlikely to involve busy roads and traffic – Irondale Touring Caravans and Campsite is a few minutes' walk from footpaths that'll take you through the pleasant fields and hills that make up the local landscape. The nearest supermarket can be found in Sandiacre (five minutes' drive); Ilkeston (10 minutes) has a wider range of shops and takeaways. Please note that kids under the age of 14 aren't allowed to stay at Irondale Touring Caravans and Campsite.

喜欢 A real gem of a site! We loved staying here. The small site is in a lovely village with good access from the M1, it is well maintained, and you have 24 hour access to the pub toilets. The pitches are a good size and you have your own grass area with picnic table and umbrella.

Sue was very welcoming and the pub had a great selection of drinks and the food looked great (you have to order in advance) we enjoyed spending time in the pub with the friendly locals.

Ken Moon is the resident Harris Hawk and sits on his perch on the site. We hope to come back and see him fly!
We will definitely return.

喜欢 Sue the owner was very pleasant and thoughtful.
Toilets clean and tidy even at the end of the day.
The food was really good quality and a very good price
I have put 8 on the rating for facilities due to the fact that there are no showering facilities, this is not a complaint, the brochure stated clearly that there were no showers which we fully excepted

喜欢 Good sized pitches, adjacent to a pub. 24 access to pub toilet facilities. Nice friendly feel about the place . Good description of what facilities are available both on the site and for ordering food.Handy for visit to Regal upholstery, Ilkeston.

喜欢 Fabulous site, very clean & well spaced out with a picnic bench & umbrella on a grassy area at the side of each pitch which was a nice touch. The pub was very warm & welcoming with excellent food. There was 24/7 access to the toilets which was brilliant & very clean. We had a lovely peaceful stay & will definitely return again & look forward to meeting Ken Moon the resident Harris Hawk again.

喜欢 I loved this site. Small site but lovely large pitches. Great pub next door and friendly staff. Lovely walks for the dog nearby too. Got to see Ken Moon (a beautiful bird of prey who lives here) flying around in the morning. Well worth staying here.

喜欢 Tidy site, having a picnic bench made it easy. Slight slope side to side needed a ramp. Nice place but not as rural a feel due to fence panels on one side- horses over the hedge but the hedges are high. Stayed for 2 nights- could hear the road in the distance when we arrived after being sent a welcome text about our pitch. The following day the wind changed direction and it became peaceful- lovely! We were disappointed that the pub was pre-order only and wish we had looked this up beforehand I imagine this would mean good home cooked food is served. This was our fault for not checking as it’s clearly stated on their website. Bonus grey waste point on our pitch, tap nearby- will empty toilet at home so didn’t check out the black waste. Village small but cute. Looked like a few walks nearby but didn’t do them.

Other outdoor pursuits around here include fishing, with the nearest angling spot about five minutes' drive away, and birdwatching – Attenborough Nature Centre (20 minutes) may be named after the nearby village rather than the TV presenter, but it's still a prime pick for a spot of ornithology. Nottingham city centre (20 minutes) is next up, for a castle, shopping centres and the interactive National Justice Museum. (Rather not drive around town? Pull up to one of the city's park and rides and take the tram instead.) On the outskirts of Nottingham is Wollaton Hall (20 minutes), an Elizabethan country house with a deer park and formal gardens. (Remember Batman's mansion in The Dark Knight Rises? Yep, that was filmed here.) Heading towards the Peak District National Park (from 45 minutes) is also on the cards, whether you opt for Derbyshire dalliances in the grounds of Chatsworth House (an hour) or old-time amusements and riverside walks in Matlock Bath (45 minutes).
