Anonymous Angus camping pod
Liked Lovely site on a farm, with friendly owners who also run a farm shop and coffee/ice cream stall. The pod was comfortable and warm, and had everything needed to make a simple meal. Round the clock hot water and comfy outdoor furniture on the private terrace were two outstanding features, along with the goats and alpacas for entertainment! Parking was right behind the pod, so no lugging stuff over long distances, and the toilet/shower block was not far away. I was lucky with the weather and had two fantastic days. It's a working farm and fairly close to the road so don't expect complete silence, but I found it peaceful and really enjoyed the view from my front door. Excellent value and a really great stay, with castles, stately homes, caves and country parks very nearby.
Disliked I was lucky enough to have the site to myself as the only camper. It could have been a very different experience if the next door pod had been occupied as it was very close - although not directly overlooked, we would definitely have heard each other. The owners run a bar on weekend nights and that, too, would be easily heard from the pod. Check before booking if this is likely to be an issue for you. The toilets and showers are unisex, which may bother some people, though there is one separate toilet cubicle with a full door and sink/bin inside if privacy is a concern.

Liked We had a fantastic two-night stay at the lodge and couldn’t have asked for more. The lodge was perfect — cosy, comfortable and had everything we needed. It was really well insulated, which made it lovely and warm, and the TV was a great added touch.
Outside, the fire pit and seating area were perfect for relaxing in the evenings and really added to the experience. The staff were lovely, friendly and welcoming throughout our stay.
The onsite ice cream parlour was fantastic, as was the butchers, and the fishing lake was excellent — the perfect way to top off our stay. We also loved being able to go and feed the lovely animals onsite.
Everything was clean and well maintained, including the toilet facilities. Overall, a brilliant little getaway with everything you could need. We absolutely loved our stay and would definitely recommend it!
Disliked Very little storage in the pods but it’s expected and wouldn’t put me off from going again.

The check-in process was really easy and straightforward, and when we arrived our Angus pod was ready, spotlessly clean and had everything we needed for our stay. Pots, cutlery, glasses etc. are all provided and tucked away under the cooker, which was really handy.
The beds were nice and comfortable, and we loved the little outdoor area overlooking the fields. We made good use of the firepit and, of course, had toasting marshmallows — because no little getaway is complete without them! 🔥
The onsite fishing was so peaceful, and the highlight for us was watching our little boy catch his first ever fish! 🎣 It was lovely having somewhere outdoors where we could just spend time together and escape the screens for a while.
The butchers shop and the staff are absolutely brilliant. Everyone made us feel so welcome, and the tomato sausages were lush! 🤤
We happened to stay during the opening of the new pub. We had our little one with us, so we didn't get to make use of it ourselves (even though we knew kids are welcome), but the live music sounded brilliant and everyone looked like they were having a fantastic time. I'm sure it will be a huge success.
The shared toilet and shower facilities were well maintained and, as we stayed during the opening of the new pub, they were understandably quite busy at times. We occasionally had to wait, but it really wasn't an issue for us. We took a little portable camping toilet with us, which was especially handy at night with our little one, and we'd definitely recommend doing the same if you're bringing young children.
Overall, we made so many lovely memories with our little boy that we're sure he'll remember for years to come. It was exactly the kind of little break we needed, and we 100% will be back! ❤️🎣

Liked This was our second trip to Stanfree. The pods were clean and had everything that we needed. The site is lovely and quiet. The farm shop and ice cream parlour is great.Definitely a hidden gem of a site.
