  • Family-run campsite on a dairy farm in the Peak District National Park
  • Access to Lathkill Dale directly from the site
  • Woodfired pizzas and ice cream sold on site
When you’re keen to get out exploring the Derbyshire Dales, you can’t get much closer to them than Haddon Grove Farm Campsite. This welcoming, family-run caravan and camping site has direct access to spectacular Lathkill Dale from the pitches. Located on a dog-friendly working dairy farm – you are welcome to meet the cows, horses and chickens – with views to the hills and dales of the Peak District National Park, the site was established in the early 1950s and has gone from strength to strength ever since. There are separate fields for family use – with play areas and rope swings – and others for group bookings, ensuring nobody gets disturbed on site. Facilities run to a shower block and wash room, and as barbecues are allowed by the pitches in the camping fields (source any foodie bits in the pretty town of Bakewell, 10 minutes’ drive), firepits can be hired on site. Logs are sold from the small on-site shop, which – more importantly for the kids – also stocks tasty ice cream from a local farm. The site also sells woodfired pizzas, which should be handy if you fancy eating something more substantial.

What customers say

This popular campsite offers stunning Peak District views and direct access to Lathkill Dale walks. Visitors praise the friendly, accommodating owners and the relaxed, no-frills atmosphere. Facilities are generally clean and adequate, with new shower and toilet blocks being a highlight. Food vans and a small shop add to the convenience. While some found the site busy with potential for noise, most enjoyed the spacious fields and the working farm environment. It's ideal for walkers and those seeking a traditional camping experience.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Large site where the facilities are well kept and accessible.

Disliked I was advised to call the number provided on arrival but the phone lines were unanswered and reception unavailable.

This was not a problem however as I was able to pitch up without issue.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked The aspect from the site. Great views which gives you enough time to see when the rain is coming. Showers and toilets spotless very clean

Disliked There is only one draining board for every two sinks so one each would be nice. Also some shelter from the rain for people washing up. Have the general bins at the wash up area. At the moment you can only put food waste in the bin. Bins for tins paper etc would be nice. Save from having to walk all the way to reception.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Lovely clean bathroom and showers. Perfect. Lots of space. Four wash up areas.

Disliked No shelter for wash up areas for campers. Very hard to get pegs into ground. No three pin plugs for charging devices. Don't think there was WiFi.

Non-electric grass touring pitch

Liked Love the open space, pop up food/drink outlets.
Friendly helpful owners, loads room plenty of fields to chose from along with amazing views. Helped the sunshine was out all weekend. Maybe need levelling ramps subject to choice of field .

Disliked Nothing, other than perhaps a shelf, seating or stool in the showers .

Local attractions

Scenic walks are to be had along the namesake river in Lathkill Dale, where you can stride out towards Lathkill Head Cave (an hour and 20 minutes’ walk) or marvel at the clear springs at The Blue Waters near the peaceful village of Over Haddon (35 minutes). For a slightly longer ramble, Arbor Low Stone Circle and Gib Hill Barrow (90 minutes) reward with prehistoric monuments and ancient burial mounds. Combine your stroll around the verdant grounds at Chatsworth House with a guided tour of the mansion’s ornate rooms packed with priceless antiques, or take in the Elizabethan Walled Gardens at Haddon Hall (both 20 minutes’ drive) after you’ve admired the tapestry collection and medieval chapel. For an insight into Peak District heritage, visit the bijou Eyam Museum (also 20 minutes) in the famed ‘plague village’ to learn the story of the Bubonic Plague of 1346–52, or have a wander around the deserted remains of Magpie Mine (five minutes’ drive), which was the last working lead mine in Derbyshire and closed in 1958.
