If you had to pick a Peak District place, you'd be displaying tiptop taste if you went for Ashbourne. For there are many whys: it’s at the southern tip of the Peak District and a gateway to the same; it leads straight on to the Tissington Trail, and it’s sevenish miles from the heady heights of Alton Towers. More? It's also been the site of a raucous game of football every Shrove Tuesday and Ash Wednesday since medieval times; and (possibly related), one in every four of its buildings is or has been an inn or brewery. It's not a bit surprising that illustrious visitors in its past have included Bonnie Prince Charlie and Charles I, although they probably didn’t have time to stop off for a game of footie… Add to your list Ashbourne Heights (formerly known as Highfields Park), three miles from town, well placed to reach a range of market towns like Bakewell and Buxton, and with a good range of facilities and services to fire the family up. From the site you can reach the main sights, activities, landscapes and history of the Peak District: too many to go into here, but do bring your camera. Ashbourne Heights has a heated indoor pool, and generously-sized pitches with room for awnings, gazebos and a car parked alongside. Liked Nicely laid out site, clean and tidy. Great for families with play park, swimming pool safe cycling for younger children.
Toilets clean and well maintained.
Handy for the Tissington trail.

Disliked Not much to dislike.
If levelling is an issue for you then the hard standing would be best.

Liked Fantastic location. It's great for kids to play in the playground. Really enjoyed the swimming pool. Great for scenery and walking with lots to do nearby.

Liked Good location.
Good site layout
Camping field large enough and not over filled

Disliked The porter loos on the camping field were disgusting! The smell and cleanliness was horrendous. The toilets and showers by the kids park were much better!

Liked Fantastic site lovely views

Disliked Only big problem was the ground on the non electric pitches were not level so things on tables slid down and the toilet block was far to walk

Liked Lovely site great location, second time I’ve stayed with my grandsons as a stopover on my way to Scotland staff friendly and helpful with the cycle path and local pub serving great meals.

Disliked We only stay the one night 🤨
