  • Quiet grass pitches on a working farm in the Chiltern Hills
  • A five-minute drive to Whipsnade Zoo; walk out to Dunstable Downs
  • Alpacas and sheep on site; pubs within easy walking distance
Farm sites are fab places to stay for family holidays – and the location of New Green End Farm, in the Chiltern Hills National Landscape between the villages of Kensworth and Whipsnade, is a particularly excellent one. And why would that be? Well, this Bedfordshire location is just a couple of miles from Whipsnade Zoo, meaning that you can walk there in half an hour or so, or maximise your time among the animals by driving there in five minutes. You can stroll straight out into the Dunstable Downs too, and there are a couple of pubs within walking distance for post-outing meals and drinks. If that's not enough walking yet, spend some time wandering around the farm as well – there are miles of pathway to wander along at this working farm, and lots of animals to spot along the way (including sheep and alpacas). That large open space makes for a mighty peaceful place to stay as well, and the grass pitches have been kept on the simple side to make the most of that rural atmosphere. They’re set well back from the main road and surrounded by woodland and open fields, with access to toilets, showers and a washing-up area, plus recycling facilities to keep the place nice and clean. Barbecues and campfires are permitted for that classic outdoor evening vibe, and dogs are welcome to join you on site here. There are a few village stores and farm shops scattered around the vicinity, but for major supplies your best bet is Dunstable, which is five minutes' drive away and home to a couple of large supermarkets.

What customers say

A rural, spacious campsite with clean, well-maintained facilities including hot showers, toilets, and a pot wash area. Staff are frequently described as friendly and helpful. The site is praised for its quiet atmosphere, scenic walks, and proximity to local attractions and pubs. Some guests noted potential noise from aircraft due to its location under a flight path, and a few mentioned occasional issues with cleanliness or capacity during busy periods. Improvements to the vending machine and facilities are ongoing.

Electric grass motorhome pitch

Liked It was quiet and the pitches (electric) were really spaced out. Good facilities

Disliked They bleached the floor of the toilets, no warning signs, and now we have a ruined pair or trousers!

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Quiet field, very clean toilets and pot wash area. I was surprised that the outside shower provided hot water.
Helpful/flexible owner.

Disliked Small improvement would be to exchange some of the many sweets and snacks in the vending machine to be real food, if possible.

From the manager: Thank you for your comments and we will look into the food. We do have to be careful with sell by dates and temperature control but we will review what is stocked

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Well maintained facilities.
Great location for walking the downs.
Raised camp fires allowed.
We went mid week so there was a lot of space between campers.

Disliked Not really a dislike for us but there were lots of low flying jets, so know this before booking
Knowing the area, I wasn't expecting to camp in Kensworth and not see and hear lots of aircraft so came with binoculars.
The day we came planes were landing west to east at Luton Airport so flew directly above the campsite.

From the manager: Hey Andrew, thanks for the feedback and local knowledge on the flight path as yes it really does depend on the wind direction, good plan with the binoculars.
BBQ's and pit fires are encouraged at our site as camping just isn't the same without one just keeps them raised to save our field, see you again soon.

Marin

Zena S. 1 review

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Its such a lovely, rural campsite and it not overloaded at all.
Plenty of space to move and not overlooked by your neighbour!!
A great vending machine with treats plus the use of a fridge and freezer. Label your stuff as our ice blocks got taken though by a naughty camper.
Its great for walks to Dunstable Downs and to Whipsnade zoo too.
Would highly recommend.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Hi Zena, thanks for your feedback, we do specialise in not allocating spaces as our campers like to camp together with friends and family and there is always lots of space even on the really busy weekends, sorry about the ice!
hope to see you again soon.

Regards

Martin

Local attractions

Whipsnade Zoo (five minutes' drive) is the big draw around here, of course – this offshoot of the Zoological Society of London is home to more than 10,000 animals from around the world, and it’s also got several play areas and a steam railway. To spend more time in the open air, you may like to stroll through the National Trust’s Dunstable Downs estate (25 minutes’ walk), walk through the Whipsnade Tree Cathedral (20 minutes) or pick any one of the scenic trails running through the chalk landscapes of the Chiltern Hills National Landscape. Golfers may like to get out onto the greens at Dunstable Downs Golf Club (three minutes’ drive) or Whipsnade Park Golf Club (10 minutes). A little further afield, there’s go-karting, indoor snow sports and the National Museum of Computing up in Milton Keynes (half an hour), a castle in Berkhamsted and a steam railway in Buzzard (both 20 minutes). For a special day out, it's a half-hour drive to the Harry Potter Studio Tour.
