  • Quiet grass pitches on a working farm in the Chiltern Hills
  • A five-minute drive to Whipsnade Zoo; walk out to Dunstable Downs
  • Alpacas and sheep on site; pubs within easy walking distance
Farm sites are fab places to stay for family holidays – and the location of New Green End Farm, in the Chiltern Hills National Landscape between the villages of Kensworth and Whipsnade, is a particularly excellent one. And why would that be? Well, this Bedfordshire location is just a couple of miles from Whipsnade Zoo, meaning that you can walk there in half an hour or so, or maximise your time among the animals by driving there in five minutes. You can stroll straight out into the Dunstable Downs too, and there are a couple of pubs within walking distance for post-outing meals and drinks. If that's not enough walking yet, spend some time wandering around the farm as well – there are miles of pathway to wander along at this working farm, and lots of animals to spot along the way (including sheep and alpacas). That large open space makes for a mighty peaceful place to stay as well, and the grass pitches have been kept on the simple side to make the most of that rural atmosphere. They’re set well back from the main road and surrounded by woodland and open fields, with access to toilets, showers and a washing-up area, plus recycling facilities to keep the place nice and clean. Barbecues and campfires are permitted for that classic outdoor evening vibe, and dogs are welcome to join you on site here. There are a few village stores and farm shops scattered around the vicinity, but for major supplies your best bet is Dunstable, which is five minutes' drive away and home to a couple of large supermarkets.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Very peaceful, large field with great view of the sky, good location with a couple of good pubs nearby serving food.

Disliked Not really a dislike but minor feedback - It was not clear where to place any rubbish but after asking another camper found there were large bifa bins back at the entrance which we hadn't noticed when arriving.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Hi and thanks for your feedback, yes we have some fantastic pubs near by, mention the site for a 10% discount! everything helps :)

Unfortunately you will have arrived when we change out the bins and they are located at the gate for Biffa our bin contractors to collect, normally they are right besides the toilet block.

Look forward to seeing you soon.

Martin

Liked Easy to find

Disliked On the flight path of luton airport, poor facilities, noisy.

From the manager: Hi, thanks for your feedback, good or bad reviews always help us improve, can't do much about the planes; we certainly disagree about the facilities, we are basic but over 90% who stay with us also disagree, they love our kitchen, showers and clean toilets, maybe camping isn't your thing!

Martin

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked The site can only really be described as basic but for me, this was more than adequate. The grounds are good and the site is very quiet. The amenities cabin, with toilets, vending machine, fridge and freezer, washing up sink, electric charging points and adjacent showers blocks share the basic but acceptably functional nature of the site's apparent ethos. However, I can't complete this review without giving props to the proprietor's very relaxed, approachable, honest and accommodating communications they provide. They accepted my very last minute booking and late arrival (10pm) and insisted they be contacted at any time if I ran into any issues - which I did when I missed the entrance and was guided back to the site by phone. If you're considering a stay here, you can find their number on Google and call them directly to discuss any queries. Thanks to Martin and the staff for that.

From the manager: Hi thanks for the honest feedback, we do have quite a few quests that arrive late for all sorts of reasons, we never turn people away on late arrival as life just gets in the way and our easy self service sites ensures you can get to us safely and at what ever the time knowing you can relax before your on going journey.

Hope to see you again soon.

Regards

Martin

Would stay again midweek and go prepared as no food truck visits now.

Electric grass motorhome pitch

Liked Good facilities, including hot showers
Fairly quiet, enough room
Walking in the woods

Disliked Planes until the early hours which were fairly loud. Felt like a lot of people for amount of facilities on the Sat night. Could have just done with a bit more info on where we could walk

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Hi Rebecca,

Thanks for your feedback and we will take on board your comments, with regards to the planes we are in the flight path but we can have days if not weeks without a single plane as it all depends on the wind direction so it all down to luck unfortunately, but thank you for coming to stay with us and hopefully it will be calm skys next time.

Local attractions

Whipsnade Zoo (five minutes' drive) is the big draw around here, of course – this offshoot of the Zoological Society of London is home to more than 10,000 animals from around the world, and it’s also got several play areas and a steam railway. To spend more time in the open air, you may like to stroll through the National Trust’s Dunstable Downs estate (25 minutes’ walk), walk through the Whipsnade Tree Cathedral (20 minutes) or pick any one of the scenic trails running through the chalk landscapes of the Chiltern Hills National Landscape. Golfers may like to get out onto the greens at Dunstable Downs Golf Club (three minutes’ drive) or Whipsnade Park Golf Club (10 minutes). A little further afield, there’s go-karting, indoor snow sports and the National Museum of Computing up in Milton Keynes (half an hour), a castle in Berkhamsted and a steam railway in Buzzard (both 20 minutes). For a special day out, it's a half-hour drive to the Harry Potter Studio Tour.
