Value for money retreat

Sept 2026

Liked Second visit to this site. A mix of hard standing and grass pitches. The pitch price is reasonable.for a rural site. Having said that, there is a bus service which passes the entrance which I presume goes into Chester (not used personally). There are plenty of walks.and it took us approximately 30 minutes to the ice cream farm,. The marina is directly opposite this. The village is also about 30 minutes walk from the site. Next door to the site is a new country store, with farm shop and cafe. The site is awaiting upgrades to electricity, some pitches are 10 amp, some are 6 amp. The toilet facilities are provided in a large shed like unit, and are adequate. We only spoke to one warden, and she was very friendly and welcoming. The site has recently transitioned to adult only, but is honouring any existing bookings with children.

Disliked Traffic can be quite fast on the main road outside the site. Care is needed if walking along the road, and road noise is very noticeable if pitched along that boundary until night.

Farm setting with hard standing and serviced pitches

Sept 2026

Liked We took a liking to this site immediately. Friendly welcome and spacious pitches with water and electricity, most of which are level. This is a working farm, and as such some animals, such as geese roam freely. We loved watching the sheep being herded through the farm yard with the quad bike and dogs. The farm shop, albeit small and self serviced is stocked with basic essentials, milk, snacks and hot drinks machine. A selection of pies and frozen meat like sausages are also available. A short walk approx 15 mins to neighbouring village, provides regular buses to Keswick or Penrith. As well as walks, the cycle track to Keswick is near by. Overall a lovely charm about it and would definitely stay again

Disliked It pains me to say, the toilet block is quite dated, so we used our onboard facilities. And not directly related to the site, the A66 which needs to crossed for bus service can get very busy. A bit of patience is needed when crossing.

Great location and reasonably priced

May 2026

Liked Good grassy area, there was a (very) small area near the entrance with hardstanding. Overall flat, but dips here and there might make levelling a little bit awkward. A few water points and drain were easily accessible via service road, and other water points dotted about. Its a very big site, we arrived as bank holiday visitors were leaving - and there were loads occupying the entrance area and across the racecourse into the centre field. Once they all left by Tuesday, it was quiet and only a few of us left to enjoy the peace. Showers and toilets all good and clean. I only spotted two elsan points, one by the main stadium, the second in the centre field, so you could have a bit of a walk if pitched in the wrong location. There are electric and non electric pitches to choose from. It's a good 20 minute walk into Stratford, mostly flat. The cycle path runs along the far end of the race track, which can be accessed by foot through an unlocked turnstile. There is a hut next to the turnstile, and it was open the first couple of days we were there, which you would be able to take your bike through, but if that is locked, you would struggle with turnstile and would need to out the main entrance and follow the public footpath back on yourself. The track was watered everyday, and it gets soaked. If you are unlucky to be coming back from Town this way while this is in progress, be prepared to wait and squelch!

Disliked It was jam packed over the bank holiday weekend, with several club rallies taking place and we were glad, they were leaving as we arrived. It would have put a strain on the shower facilities and possibly noisey at night (but not actually there to witness that).

Overall good with onsite facilities, easy access to local towns.

May 2025

Liked The staff were very friendly and welcoming. We felt lucky that the pitch we were on, was in a good location with it's own tap and waste. Elsan point nearby and toilet block. The site is very large with a variety of pitch types, so some may not have the same handy facilities. Adult bar was reasonably priced. Approx 20 min walk into Wem, or bus by entrance to go to either Whitchurch or Shrewsbury.

Disliked The camping toilets/showers appeared clean, but dated, but the toilet in the bar was very dirty, and overlooked. Some maintenance required. Also, I only calculated 7 showers for the ladies across two blocks (there may be others), but that seems far too little, given the size of the site. As we are child free - we wouldn't want to be there at peak times. There were lots of children running around, scooting and screaming til gone 10pm - something to mindful of.
