General

  • Peaceful park with easy access to Stratford
  • Free race meeting tickets included in pitch price
  • Several pubs within a mile and a half

This site's setting makes us heave yearnful sighs.

Close to the banks of the peaceful Avon (one of our fave British rivers, Avon aficionados) and set in Shakespearean countryside, Stratford Racecourse Touring Park is only 20 minutes' gentle walk from the thespian tours and treats of Stratford-upon-Avon. And, with a name like Stratford Racecourse Touring Park, it's a sure bet you'll be near the geegees too.

In fact, equine aficionados, you'll be pitched in the racecourse itself, with plenty of surrounding space in the centre for small racers to let off steam – and you'll get free race-meeting tickets tacked onto your pitch price if you book for two days, one of which is a race day.

(Plenty of other events accumulate at the racecourse too year-round such as a motorhome show and a beer and cider festival: we'd recommend pitching up for a lengthy sojourn.)

Amenities include a modern loo and shower block, a launderette, Calor gas sales, washing-up facilities and water points; for feed, trot to one of the several on-form pubs within a mile and a half.

Great to be able to park there during race day and the free tickets are a bonus. From the manager...

Thank you for posting such a fantastic review, In as much as we vowed never to respond to another pitchup review we did feel the need on this occasion to do so.

It was such a pleasure to see how much you made full use of the park and the space this has to offer, children, teenagers and adults all playing some kind of ball game together really gave the bank holiday weekend a great family feel to it. Please come back again next year, you will be most welcome!

EXCELLENT toilet and shower block. Friendly, helpful reception staff to meet and greet us.
Only draw back was there was no local shop nearby.
Bus into town did not run according to timetable.

    Disliked:

no local shop to get any supplies like milk or newspaper
Bus did not run according to timetable, it either did NOT run or it was very late.
Parking in town is not easy that is why we were trying to use local bus service.

    Being an holiday

    Disliked:

Lack of clean usable facilities rude staff that like walking around topless not what I like to be greeted by when I arrive at a camp site

From the manager...

I emailed you on Thursday 3rd June asking for clarification of the accusations within your review, as yet we have received no reply. I remember your arrival here at park as the warden who pitched you reported back as is per procedure that you had in fact ignored what he had instructed in regards to pitching correctly, We have a strict pitching policy in place that all guests are subject to adhere too, you did not and furthermore you challenged the warden.

In Summary: This review smacks of sour grapes, the rest of the review i will hold in the contempt that it has been written and allowed to be published.

Local attractions

It's less than a mile from Stratford Racecourse Touring Park to the cottage of one fairly famous Miss Hathaway, and a 20-minute meander on a direct path along the greenway and the Avon bank to reach the shops, pubs, restaurants and Shakespearean sights of Stratford.

Stratford-upon-Avon is of course the place for Shakespearean scholars the world over to see the places of his early shenanigans: he once got copped poaching deer from Charlcote Park around these parts, which impresses us rather than otherwise...

Spend a couple of days around the main Shakespeare attractions in town – Shakespeare’s Birthplace, Shakespeare's Grave, Anne Hathaway’s Cottage, Hall's Croft, Mary Arden's Farm, Nash's House and New Place – and then catch a show at either/both of the RSC's theatres, the Royal Shakespeare and the Swan. The charity Shakespeare's Birthplace Trust keeps books, manuscripts and other interesting Shakespeare items in its Shakespeare and local collections.

Also in Stratford, we bet you'd like a flutter at Butterfly World, Europe’s biggest butterfly collection, and the nightly ghost tours at independent museum Tudor World, while those who fancy undramatic countryside walks can tackle part of the 146-mile Shakespeare's Way from Stratford to London's Globe Theatre via Oxford, the Cotswolds, Blenheim Park, the Grand Union Canal Walk and the Thames Path.

More flutters can be had at the year-round meets of Warwick Racecourse less than ten miles from Stratford, and take time too to see the topping castles in the region: Warwick Castle, filled with family fun and events all year round, and Kenilworth Castle, described by an eminent historian as 'the finest surviving example of a semi-royal palace of the later middle ages'.

More history? Try National Trust houses like Charlcote Park where Will pilfered the deer; the award-winning blacksmith’s workshop Chedham’s Yard, or getting envious among the vintage cars and motorbikes of Gaydon's Heritage Motor Centre.

More horses? Get to Redwings Horse Sanctuary at Oxhill 10 miles south of Stratford to see over 90 horsey inhabitants on a free walk and talk tour.

Must see

  • Anne Hathaway's Cottage (0.9 miles)
  • Royal Shakespeare Theatre (1.1 miles)
  • Nash's House & New Place (1.2 miles)

National Trust

  • Charlecote Park (5.0 miles)
  • Kinwarton Dovecote (5.8 miles)
