Old Ma's Coffee Shop

General

  • Farm site on the Cheshire Plain, two miles from Tattenhall
  • Chester, Peckforton Castle and Tarporley all within a 20-minute drive
  • Farm shop and café on site selling meals to eat in or take away

What’s for dinner? A homemade quiche perhaps, or a couple of steaks to chuck on the barbie? Take your pick, for these are among the goodies on offer at Manor Farm Caravan Park. In fact, plentiful are the foodie rewards for those who choose to settle here – while you’re in the shop it’d be a fine idea to invest in some of their bacon and prize-winning sausages for brekkie, or perhaps to devolve duties to the professionals by grabbing a meal in the coffee shop.

Manor Farm is a family-owned working farm on 200 acres on the Cheshire Plain, eight miles from the centre of Chester. Sheep, horses and dogs reside on site, as well as a herd of cattle. There’s little here to distract you from the important business of rural relaxation – facilities have been kept to a minimum but include free wifi (in the café and farm shop area), a small function room with pool table and sofas, and a spankingly clean bathroom block with toilets and showers.

Countryside pursuits around here can include rambles on the Sandstone Trail, canalside wanders or less strenuous walks to the village of Tattenhall, which is about a half-hour stroll away for local shops and pubs. Castles, a golf course and forest walks are a short drive away; if you prefer to roam by public transport, buses pass by the site to whisk guests off to Chester or Whitchurch.

Please note

Bookings must not be for more than 14 consecutive nights.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

Wifi is available at the farm shop and café.
Old Ma's Cafe is open 10am until 3pm weekdays, and 10am until 4pm Saturdays and Sundays, closed Mondays in the quieter months.
If you are planning an early breakfast this can be booked in advance.

Hook up not great , tripped quite a lot , Cafe not open at expected time, a little further out than described, need a car

From the manager...

Hi Sharon and thank you for your honest review, I have sent you a personal email to enable me to investigate this further.

re: Hook Ups - usually if they trip it is because more than 10 amps are being drawn from the supply, and a simple reset of the trip switch will fix it. Occasionally it may be something more and we do our best to sort this as quickly as possible.
We ask campers to always report this, before leaving the site & indeed bad feedback - as if they don't then they are leaving a faulty hook up for the next campers arriving.
If this had been reported at the time, maybe we could have fixed it for you.

re: Cafe Opening Times, Old Ma's Cafe is open 10am until 3pm weekdays, and 10am until 4pm Saturdays and Sundays, closed Mondays in the quieter months.

Often however, the cafe is open from 9am and if campers are planning an early breakfast this can be booked in advance, we are always happy to oblige.
However, if it is quiet in the afternoon then we may close early, and as your stay was in February this is what may have happened. My apologies for this, we will bear this in mind in the future when making this decision.

re: Location .. We are infact a rural site, as promoted, and although there are plenty of lovely walks straight from the campsite you would need a car if you are wanting to explore further a field, as with anywhere. We are walking distance from the village of Tattenhall as detailed in our booking confirmation email, and a link to a google map is provided.
We also have an Ord Survey Map on display outside Old Ma's Coffee Shop for our campers. We are not within walking distance of a pub, but we are licensed to sell alcohol here !
This will be our second season as a campsite, and in 2018 we have learned alot from the feedback of our campers. We have made alot of changes and our aim is to not have any bad reviews in 2019.
We ask campers to bring any issues they may have to our attention whilst still onsite, and hopefully this will all make for an improved experience for everyone.

Thank You Sharon, and hope to see you here again this season !

The owner was very helpful when a motorhome got stuck on the grass and came over with his tractor to try and help them out.

From the manager...

Hi Sandra and thank You for your review.

The water heater in the shower block is on a timer this time of year ... I will put up a sign to advise the times, and if campers need it outside of those times Brian can always hit the booster button !

Apologies for the sign not being up sooner --- im on it !

Local attractions

If you wish to wander, there are plenty of places to stretch the legs around here: the 34-mile Sandstone Trail passes nearby, as does the towpath alongside the Shropshire Union Canal. The walking and bike paths of Delamere Forest are about 20 minutes away by car.

Should you require a treat at the end of your walk, you might consider hiking to Beeston Castle (about an hour and a quarter away on foot) and returning via The Ice Cream Farm, where you can select from around 40 fab flavours; it’s also a fab place to entertain tinies with farm animals and play areas.

For a bit more history, Peckforton Castle and Bolesworth Castle are both about 10 minutes’ drive away, and the medieval walls and half-timbered houses are around 15 minutes away. The excellent Chester Zoo is about a 20-minute drive away.

Must see

  • Cheshire Military Museum (6.1 miles)
  • Chester Castle (6.2 miles)
  • Chester Cathedral (6.4 miles)
