The Kestrel camping pod

A great adult only site with good access to Whitchurch.

Aug 2026

Liked 2nd time at this lovely site. The `new` owner (Dawn) was really nice to talk to and her e mail, to confirm all details, was really comprehensive. The site is very well kept. The toilets/shower block/pot wash room are really clean. The Kestrel camping pod is fab. Plenty of room with 2 single beds, a table and a couple of chairs. It`s got a nice rug on the floor so no cold feet ! Good `structure` to cook on outside. Ideal to make a cuppa or cook a meal. It`s roughly a 30 minute walk down the canal to Whitchurch although, due to the canal breach, you now have to get off at the marina and walk along road paths into the town. There are loads of Geocaches along the canal. Whitchurch is a nice old town and has some cracking pubs (all of which were dog friendly) The fishing pool has got more water in it now and they were building a new fishing pitch which looked good. May have to bring my fishing gear next time. The cafe is superb. Really friendly staff. Good value for money and cracking food. I will be back.

Disliked The road noise although to be fair you soon zone it out

Great place to stop with the mutt. Loads of nice walks around

Aug 2025

Liked Lovely owners and staff. Very friendly and they were around and always willing to chat. The site was immaculate. The grass was kept short and strimmed. The toilets/shower blocks and the pot wash area were super clean. Could not be faulted. The Kestrel camping pod was brilliant. Loads of room. 2 single beds, a table and a couple of chairs. A nice rug on the floor so no cold feet ! My dog loved it. Good `structure` to cook on outside. Ideal to make a cuppa or cook a meal. It`s a 30 minute walk down the canal and through Whitchurch Waterways Country Park into Whitchurch. Ideal for exercising the mutt. Some really lovely scenery. Plenty of Geocaches along the canal. Whitchurch is a nice old town and has some great pubs (all of which were dog friendly) If you want a woodland walk it takes about 30 minutes to get to Dansons Woods. Not a massive wood but good to let the dog have a wander and an explore. The cafe was excellent. Really nice atmosphere and cheery, friendly staff. Good value for money and cracking food. I loved relaxing with a couple of beers on the decking overlooking the pool I will be back.

Disliked The road noise - although to be fair you soon zoned it out. It didn`t stop my enjoyment of this cracking site

Great (peaceful) little site

May 2025

Liked Two exceptionally clean, side by side, toilets/shower wet rooms which are open 24/7. Showers are free. Water was always hot when I had to wash. The field was really well maintained and was pretty flat. 5 pubs within a 20 minute walking distance. The Green Man has excellent beer and has decent prices. My personal faves were The Two Boats Inn and the Cuttle Inn which were either side of the canal. Some really nice walks around here. Long Itchington is a lovely well kept village and is very peaceful. If you want things a bit busier Southam is only 2 miles away so only half hour or so walk away. More shops, cafes and 4 pubs. There is a bus from Southam which stops right next to the Green Man.

Disliked Pot wash sink outside the toilet block was cold water only but that isn`t a major problem. The pub being closed on Monday (although there are plenty of other pubs to choose from !) Being charged a fiver for the dog.

Great site, great location and great staff. Recommended

Sept 2024

Liked Had the riverside field to myself ! It`s a huge field and you can choose your own pitch. Clean facilities. Toilets were spotless. Pot wash was also excellent. Really friendly welcome when I arrived and was shown to my pitch following someone in a golf buggy. Spoke to the same person again the next day and she was again very nice. A credit to the site. The location is just superb. Really easy flat walk into Stourport which takes approx 10 mins. Some great pubs in Stourport and didn`t find one that wasn`t dog friendly. Approx 50 mins walk in the opposite direction to Bewdley on the Severn Way next to the river. Not for the feint hearted though as some of the path was eroded so very slippy. The dog was o.k but I had to be extra careful ! My 2nd time here solo camping with the mutt and it won`t be my last time here.

Disliked The rain ! Other than the weather there wasn`t anything I disliked

Excellent basic site

Aug 2024

Liked Loads of space. Clean facilities - water always hot. Really good pot washing at end of the toilet/shower block. Stunning views. Lovely people running the place. Nice walk down the nearby canal into Cromford then into Matlock Bath and you can then get the train back to Whatstandwell station which is about 20 minutes or so from the campsite. This is my 2nd time here and I`ll be back. The Cliff Inn in Crich is a superb old fashioned pub but is a steep uphill walk to get there

Disliked How steep the walk is up the hill to get back to the place !

Nice site with loads of room and great owners

Aug 2022

Liked Huge field and you can pitch where you like and park next to your tent Tap & place to wash your pots/pans Liked the honesty shop that sold ice creams, water and had biscuits for the dog Portaloo was cleaned on a regular basis and always had loo roll and hand gel Really welcoming and friendly owners who gave me a map and details of local walks The location is really good. Plenty of walks for dogs Ockbrook has 4 decent boozers and the nearest is about 20 minutes walk away. Nice relaxed stay. Will stay again

Disliked To be honest it was exactly as advertised so no complaints from me.

Really really nice site. Great staff. Good size pitches. Clean

May 2022

Liked There is a huge field by the river specifically aimed at exercising your dog which I used on a few occasions. Poo bins were plentiful around the site. Grass was cut short and the whole place was very well maintained. The location is superb. It`s a really easy 15 minute walk into Stourport On Severn along a good path next to the river. Lots of rowing boats and pleasure craft to watch. Stourport has a large number of decent pubs, a funfair and a cracking brewery. It surprised me how good Stourport was. In the opposite direction along the River Severn is Bewdley. It took me and the dog about 45 minutes to get there but it is a much less relaxed walk as the first part coming out of the site is very narrow and wild/overgrown. A really really nice scenic walk though. If you don`t fancy walking back from Bewdley (it was exceptionally hot on the Saturday afternoon) you can get a bus from Bewdley to Stourport and it`s only £2. Bargain !

Disliked Maybe could do with a small shop and some toilets where you can go with the dog as I wouldn`t leave my dog unattended. I didn`t know you can`t take dogs in the toilets/wash area`s (schoolboy error !)

From the manager: Oh wow thank you for the review we really appreciate the time you took to write this, very happy that you enjoyed your stay with us and really hope you return, we don't have a shop on the park as we have a convenience store just a 10 minute walk away. Kind regards Team Lickhill

Would definitely stop here again. Enjoyed my stay here

Aug 2021

Liked Superb value for money at just £7.50 per night. Very clean shower/toilet block. Pot wash sinks were outside and looked decent. Really nice bar overlooking the river Wye which has a good selection of beers. Plenty of rowing boats (think Oxford/Cambridge boat race, rather than pleasure craft) to watch. Very relaxing. We were greeted by a nice friendly chap at reception at check in who showed us all the amenities and gave us a choice of pitches. Combination lock on the gate to get into the campsite and keypad code on the toilet/shower block so security was good. Its quite a large site with plenty of room and is flat. They have a mixture of tents, caravans and motor homes. A large proportion were rowers but it was a nice atmosphere. Easy walk into the city centre which has plenty of really good pubs some of which do live music. Close to the Waterworks Museum which was only £7 and was very interesting - well worth a visit. Hereford has a cracking pool/snooker/darts place (Hereford Snooker & Pool Centre) which was superb and within walking distance. Weather was poor so we spent a very enjoyable couple of hours in here.

Disliked Breakfast was average at best but it was cheap but that`s the only negative
