  • Family-run site with on-site fishing and a café
  • Steps from the Shropshire Union Canal
  • Adults-only and dog-friendly; canalside for dog walks
If you had thoughts on an ideal setting for a hol between England and Wales, Hadley Park might well be it. It's in the Shropshire countryside on the border with Wales, next to the Shropshire Union Canal, and a handsomely scenic walk from Whitchurch, Shropshire's oldest market town. Hadley Park is a family-owned and run site that's set up for adults only. It has a small pond where guests can fish – for a fee; a big sundeck overlooking the pond, and a fully licensed on-site café serving fresh local produce. You can also have your hair smartened up in the Hadley Park salon: just enquire when booking using the details in your booking confirmation email. Amenities include a launderette and a washing-up area; there's also a chemical disposal point, and a modern well-kept toilet and shower block with disabled facilities. The park is adults-only and welcomes well-behaved dogs. A service station with fast food and coffee outlet is 400 yards away.

Liked: Level pitch, immaculate bathrooms and kitchen areas, with washing machines and a microwave. Fishing pond, with rods to hire. Lovely fire pit area at the side of the pond. Cafe on site if you don't want to cook. Easy canal walk into Whitchurch 20 minutes, with an Aldi nearby (walking distance).

Disliked: Some road noise, but not intrusive. Nothing to dislike.

Non-electric hardstanding motorhome pitch

Liked: Our first time staying here in our camper visiting our daughter who lives locally. The site is really lovely, well cared for and blissfully quiet. The toilets and showers are some of the best we’ve seen. Paul the onsite guy was really helpful on arrival and my husband really enjoyed learning about his Harris Hawk called Birdie. We will definitely be back again thank you

Disliked: There is nothing to dislike

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Our second visit to this site was just as charming as the first , the shower block and toilets are one of the best we have encountered on our travels and being able to camp for the night next to the lake with fishing included was an added bonus. After a warm welcome from Paul and a conversation about the parks pet , Birdie, a bird of prey , I was offered the chance to feed her the next day , an amazing experience and we have already booked to camp here again.

Disliked: Would like the cafe to stay open a bit longer but not a major gripe.

Liked: A very nice quiet site, dog friendly,Adult only.excellent toilet block very clean .For a change no extra charge for fishing 🎣 I don’t always want to pay for a whole days fishing. I like to fish late afternoon till dusk. Sometimes you can hear the traffic at night but well worth a visit.

Disliked: Traffic noise.

Local attractions

Staying close to home from Hadley Park, the old Shropshire town of Whitchurch is less than a mile away, and the walks of the Sandstone Trail as well as the hacks of the Bishop Bennet Way are easily accessible via the Shropshire and Union Canal on site. Elsewhere, several famed Shropshire and Cheshire sights are within 20 miles of the park, like Chester Cathedral and the city's Roman ruins and amphitheatre; Chester Zoo and Chester Racecourse; the fab follies of Hawkestone Park, and the llamas, alpacas and 50 acres of greenery of Cholmondeley Castle Gardens. Nearby Shrewsbury is famed for its annual flower show and for its Darwin Trail commemorating the life and work of evolution dude Charles Darwin who was born in the town. More modernly, a good range of plays are held at the new Severn Theatre and several riverside pubs and restaurants are around at which to while the night away. The bars, cafés and independent shops of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Llangollen are within driving distance: other top town picks are a picnic in Riverside Park, a stroll along Victoria Promenade, and a steam straight ahead on the Llangollen Railway.
