General

  • Family-run site with on-site fishing and a café
  • Steps from the Shropshire Union Canal
  • Adjoining wood for dog walks

If you had thoughts on an ideal setting for a hol betwixt England and Wales, Hadley Park might be it. It's set in the Shropshire countryside on the border with Wales, next to the Shropshire Union Canal, and a handsomely scenic walk from Whitchurch, Shropshire's oldest market town. A wood adjoins the site for dog walks and evening ambles.

Hadley Park is a new and developing site, family-owned and run, and for adults only. It has a small pond where guests can fish – for free – and an on-site café, along with a launderette and washing-up facilities; there's also a modern well-kept toilet and shower block, and a chemical disposal point.

The park is adults only and welcomes well-behaved dogs. A service station with fast food and coffee outlet is 400 yards away.

Please note

No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

Group bookings of 10 or more adults are not permitted (couples and immediate family members excepted).

This is an adults-only site. Children under the age of 21 are not allowed on site.

They have water pressure problems 13/11/2017

Cafe, Toilet Block and Hardstanding pitch.

    Disliked:

Stopped on pitch 10. I have taken a video of the fully serviced pitch. The water trickled out of the on-pitch tap, no pressure. I was unable to have a proper shower in my van. We booked a 16amp hookup and got 10amp. For £25 a night that is not acceptable.

From the manager...

Hi, so sorry that you had these problems. We are working on the problems, there are some pitches where the ampage needs to be looked at. So we will make sure that customers only go onto pitches where this is not an issue. We would like to offer you a complimentary stay for 1 night on another pitch and we offer you our sincere appologies. Many thanks, Adele

Not worth £25 a night. 16/10/2017

Location on the canal ideal for walks into Whitchurch, well laid out pitches, nicely kept.

    Disliked:

Showers, although nice inside the water pressure was really poor, fishing was disappointing, apparently Cormorants visited last year and decimated the pond.
As reported before the cafe is scruffy.
Noise from the road was annoying.
Price £25 a night when much better sites have already dropped their prices, I know this is a new project but the price does not reflect this.

From the manager...

Thank you, yes there are such nice walks around that area, especially this time of year. Walks along the canal are a must do! Our new cafe is arriving in 3 weeks so we are excited to replace the existing set up! Fish are in abundance, I have personally fished it and can vouch for that. We are currently running a deal of 3 nights for the price of 2 which is an off peak deal. Many thanks for visiting! Adele

Loved how quiet it was. Great walks off the park. Staff really chilled. Loved that we paid online and could just turn up and find our own space without having to check in. We choose the spot near the canal and enjoyed watching the barges pass under the bridge. We will be back!!

    Disliked:

If I have to pick something it would be the main road noise. But it really wasn't an issue.

From the manager...

Stayed in the Randolph Pod (Yellow).

The pod was really nice, very comfortable bed and plenty room to stand up. Obviously there is limited space for luggage but they can be pushed under the bed. There is a small heater in the pod, we was out Saturday day time and didn't leave it on but the pod was still quite warm inside. The BBQ works just fine and we enjoyed being able to cook on this and sit outside. Biscuits, coffee, milk and x 2 bottles of water were left for us complimentary. There's a kettle in the pod, x 4 plug sockets AND x 2 USB ports which I thought was very good. 1 main light, as well as a lamp. Outdoor light also. There were books and plenty leaflets left in the lodge. The toilet/shower block is the cleanest campsite toilet block I've ever been in!!! I especially loved the sparkly walls ha!! The canal runs along the back of the pods, when you get on the canal where the lift bridge is make sure you take a LEFT to head into Whitchurch for pubs/shops. Location is a turning off the A road so can be slightly noisy during the night however this didn't bother us, suppose it would depend on how light of a sleeper you were. Campsite was pretty quiet, the 2 pods are on the camp field and there was only 2 other tents on during our stay.

Take your own bedding. Gas provided for the BBQ as well as BBQ utensils.

Would definitely reccomend this pod to anyone and already have to my friends and family. Really enjoyed our stay and would probably return sometime in the future. Thank you.

    Disliked:

Small problem with the electrics going off during the day, however this was sorted within 5 mins.

No tea bags, only coffee :-(

From the manager...

Hi! So glad that you enjoyed the pod! It is lovely that you noticed the little details intended to add that little bit extra to your stay. Look forward to seeing you soon! Sorry about the tea bags our cleaning lady Shirley must have forgotten to replenish!.

Many thanks

A site that does all the right things well 30/08/2017

Reviewer's country: United Kingdom John G. Confirmed

  • Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch (eight man)
  • Recommend to friends   Visit again
  • Liked:

The site has all the essentials that we look for - decent toilets/showers/washing-up - and does not cram the pitches together so it all feels pretty civilized. The owners and everyone working there were clearly all committed to making it a good holiday stay. The notice board offered plenty of tips and ideas for where to go for meals. There's a cafe on site that's open from 9am to 3pm so a full English breakfast was always an option.

We took a pitch by the hedge as the site slopes very gently and, we thought, if it rained it would ensure any water drained away to the pond at the front of the site. Fortunately we never found out as we were blessed with good weather for our 6 nights there.

Having the canal running along the rear of the site meant that there was a ready-made walk to take our dog along before turning in for the night. It's a convenient location for walking along the canal towpath into Whitchurch, where there are numerous pubs and cafes, and the Lidl, Tesco and takeaways there are obviously a very short drive away.

There's a main road to the front so of course that generates quite a bit of traffic noise - at least to our ears since we live in a rural location - but that subsides later in the evening and you are more likely to hear sheep if you awaken during the night so just count them until you drop back off to sleep.

It's a good base for exploring Shropshire. We found there were plenty of places to visit within about 45 minutes drive and you are right on the border with Wales. If you visit the Llangollen Steam Railway then we recommend driving to one of the outlying stations as the parking in Llangollen was very limited.

Local attractions

Staying close to home from Hadley Caravan Park, the old Shropshire town of Whitchurch is less than a mile away, and the walks of the Sandstone Trail as well as the hacks of the Bishop Bennet Way are easily accessible via the Shropshire and Union Canal on site.

Elsewhere, several famed Shropshire and Cheshire sights are within 20 miles of the park, like Chester Cathedral and the city's Roman ruins and amphitheatre; Chester Zoo and Chester Racecourse; the fab follies of Hawkestone Park, and the llamas, alpacas and 50 acres of greenery of Cholmondeley Castle Gardens.

Nearby Shrewsbury is famed for its annual flower show and for its Darwin Trail commemorating the life and work of evolution dude Charles Darwin who was born in the town. More modernly, a good range of plays are held at the new Severn Theatre and several riverside pubs and restaurants are around at which to while the night away.

The bars, cafés and independent shops of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Llangollen are within driving distance: other top town picks are a picnic in Riverside Park, a stroll along Victoria Promenade, and a steam straight ahead on the Llangollen Railway.
