Hadley Park: Fishing lake

General

  • Family-run site with on-site fishing and a café
  • Steps from the Shropshire Union Canal
  • Adults-only and dog-friendly; canalside for dog walks

If you had thoughts on an ideal setting for a hol between England and Wales, Hadley Park might well be it. It's in the Shropshire countryside on the border with Wales, next to the Shropshire Union Canal, and a handsomely scenic walk from Whitchurch, Shropshire's oldest market town.

Hadley Park is a family-owned and run site that's set up for adults only. You can also have your hair smartened up in the Hadley Park salon: just enquire when booking using the details in your booking confirmation email.

Amenities include a launderette and a washing-up area; there's also a chemical disposal point, and a modern well-kept toilet and shower block with disabled facilities.

The park is adults-only and welcomes well-behaved dogs. A service station with fast food and coffee outlet is 400 yards away.

Yeah, it's close to a main road. The noise isn't too bad and quietens during the night. Take earplugs to help.

well maintained site, nice showers and toilets, very clean. Locations is excellent and on site café good. Great dog field with sheltered area. There is also a dog agility field available at an extra cost.
The site is about a 30 minute walk into Whitchurch along the canal. We will definitely return. Pitches are level and big. But you do need a long waste and water pipe and electric. Approximately 5-6 m. Good access from main road but there is a few pot holes in the road into the site so take your time and you will be fine.

Fantastic sized fully serviced pitches. Showers absolutely stunning clean and well maintained. A few minutes walk from the canal and a gentle 25 minutes stroll into Whitchurch, which is a beautiful little market town. Lots of pubs and takeaways, for those that want that. Let's not forget the cafe on site, an amazing all day breakfast well worth the money and you can take your beloved 4 legged friends. Will definitely be back again.

Very quiet site. This was our first site in our new motorhome and had never booked a site or been on any holiday or similar so we were a but out of comfort zone but we not needed to worry because everyone on the site was friendly, we asked several people to help and they were more than happy too.

The site itself was lovely, a few puddles around but there was ALOT of rain overnight. The facilities were great, the toilets and showers clean. The pond and surrounding areas were tranquil and the canal had literally been behind us had been great to jump on for a walk. We will definitely be back at some point.

Thank you to all that helped us and we could not have asked for better for our first time in our new home.

    Disliked:

The puddles made everything a bit messy however they are not able to control the weather so no ones fault.

Liked the easy access to the site, it was very clean & tidy. No tight turns or narrow lanes to navigate. The site is well set out with each pitch simple to access. The permanent pitches are tucked around the back. The toilet block had plenty of toilets & showers which are spotlessly clean. The block is also heated & the water from the showers was very warm indeed. There are disabled toilets & showers too. The block also includes a washing up & laundry area which washing & drying machines. We arrived later than anticipated & only had to make a quick call for instructions on finding a pitch. There are full services on the pitches with electric hook up, water hook up & grey waste drains, plus a toilet cassette cleaning drain. There is a fantastic on-site cafe which is open Wednesday to Sunday 10 - 2pm, which is staffed by the site & meant we could complete booking in over breakfast. There is on site fishing in a pond & also some glamming pods. Which again looked very clean & well cared for. The site was well landscaped & the grass was neatly cut. I would highly recommend this site, although it is adult only which worked for us this time. We were visiting friends who live on a canal boat which was perfect as the site sits right on the side of the Shropshire Union Canal Llangollen Branch, with a driveway onto the towpath.

Local attractions

Staying close to home from Hadley Caravan Park, the old Shropshire town of Whitchurch is less than a mile away, and the walks of the Sandstone Trail as well as the hacks of the Bishop Bennet Way are easily accessible via the Shropshire and Union Canal on site.

Elsewhere, several famed Shropshire and Cheshire sights are within 20 miles of the park, like Chester Cathedral and the city's Roman ruins and amphitheatre; Chester Zoo and Chester Racecourse; the fab follies of Hawkestone Park, and the llamas, alpacas and 50 acres of greenery of Cholmondeley Castle Gardens.

Nearby Shrewsbury is famed for its annual flower show and for its Darwin Trail commemorating the life and work of evolution dude Charles Darwin who was born in the town. More modernly, a good range of plays are held at the new Severn Theatre and several riverside pubs and restaurants are around at which to while the night away.

The bars, cafés and independent shops of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Llangollen are within driving distance: other top town picks are a picnic in Riverside Park, a stroll along Victoria Promenade, and a steam straight ahead on the Llangollen Railway.
