  • Dog-friendly site 15 minutes from Venice by bus
  • A 10-minute drive from shops and restaurants in Mestre
  • Reception open 24 hours; bus stop within walking distance
Venice: home to gondolas, teeny streets, a most grand canal and the Rialto Bridge… and often pretty steep hotel prices. Have at it in a smart way with a stay at Camping Rialto, a dog-friendly site surrounded by greenery about 10 minutes' drive from mainland centre Mestre, and about 15 minutes by bus from the Venice city sights (with a handy bus stop within walking distance of the site and services running through till late evening). Buses run frequently between Venice and Mestre (including during the night), so settle down on site after a long day of Venice sightseeing. During summer only, there is a swimming pool and a pool bar open for relaxing dips punctuated with snacks and cool drinks. Later on, move on for drinks and a pizza at the bar-pizzeria-restaurant (open during high season only), which faces the prettily well-maintained garden – and then settle there again in the morning with an Italian coffee or cappuccino…

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Great proximity for Venice centre, only 10mins on bus which stops right outside site. Good stop over for Marco Polo airport too. Toilets and showers Good. Restaurant service and food excellent. Big Lidl opposite site. Staff on site very good. Chiara is exceptional with her many languages.

Disliked: Could do with more water points on site. Swimming pool at far end is open to non campers so public are invited to attend the pool. Wifi only available near the restaurant.

Titania 2 bedroom static caravan

Liked: The location was good, nice and quiet area. Bus stop into Venice literally outside the camp site and regular buses.
Lidl supermarket opposite was great to have.

Disliked: The camp site is really run down and not clean.
It was off season, but think green swamp (literally) for a swimming pool-open access, really dangerous for young children-no barriers or covering.
No pizzeria open, they did tell us this on arrival. But told us the bar woild be open, it was never open in our 1 week stay.
The caravan we stayed in was really dirty.
Mould up the walls, a leaking toilet with open water flowing from the toilet.
The linen with stains on, the heater caked in grime. Crockery and cutlery all had to be scrubbed, they were greasy and even the inside of the cupboards were greasy.
It was so flithy we decided to leave a day earlier. You can smell the mould, damp and dirt the second you walk into the caravan.

Electric grass tent pitch (no cars)

Microlodge (three person)

Liked: -very cheap compared to other options
- clean facilities (toilet, showers)
- friendly personnel at the reception and restaurant
- very good connection to the old town of Venedig (two bus lanes directly in front of the camping site, you can purchase the tickets at the reception)
- restaurant had good prices and food
- pool
- flexibility regarding booking (we could change our booking for the second night)
- washing machines for the cloths

Disliked: - we didn’t like that there was a music box at the pool where people could play their private music. It’s public and therefore a bit annoying
- you have to press the water in the bathrooms once and then it runs for a certain time. We think that the period of running should be shortened. It’s quite a waste of water that it runs so long at once, and you can’t stop it.
- no kitchen
-if you want to have a completely quiet room away from any noise, this might not be it. You can hear cars in the night, as it is directly bordering two streets. (But we didn’t think it was very annoying.)

Microlodge (three person)

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Really handy for Venice - a bus from outside the gate takes 10 min and cost 3€ return. Friendly staff. Level pitches and good toilet and shower provision. The campsite was busy, with a lot of young backpackers and had a friendly feeling.
Very convenient Lidl just across the road.

Disliked: On the Friday night a karaoke night at the bar seemed to be more for locals than campers and was loud till quite late (but was also pretty entertaining) Cash only for camping, bus tickets etc.

Local attractions

The centre of Venice is less than 10 kilometres or a 15-minute bus ride/12 minutes by train from Camping Rialto: once in town, take a vaporetto or water bus to stop off wherever you fancy, or just start a-wandering; the signs all around for Rialto and San Marco will keep you on the right track (or you could take it easy by cruising along the Grand Canal on a vaporetto…) The islands of Murano, Burano and Torcella are also popular stops on the Venice tourist trail, as is a cruise along the Riviera del Brenta to gawp at the lavishness of the villas and gardens along its route from Venice to Padova. Mestre, about 10 minutes' drive away, has plenty of shops and restaurants that are generally cheaper than those in Venice, and both Padova and Treviso are within about 20 minutes by car. Verona, Padova and Treviso are all easy to get to by train from Venice station as well.
