  • On the edge of the Caps et Marais d'Opale Natural Regional Park
  • Pétanque court, games room, summer restaurant and bar, kids' games
A site for British sorts – and for other holidaying types seeking pleasant stays in the north of France: Camping Caravanning St Louis is a green and peaceful site in the Nord-Pas-de-Calais, in the municipality of Autingues. At a 25-minute drive from the Channel Tunnel and five minutes' drive from the A6 motorway, your holiday options are huge here – use the site as a stopover on your way south into France or north into Blighty, or stay put to explore these handsome surrounds. If you're sticking around for a bit, you may like to know taht the site is on the edge of the Caps et Marais d'Opale Natural Regional Park for hikes and bike rides around its hills, countryside and marshland; it's also an easy couple of kilometres from Ardres with its lake and waterside leisure complex. This is a mightily well-maintained site, with excellent amenities including a renovated shower and toilet block hailed as spotless by gratified former guests. The friendly and helpful team also help to make this a popular place, as do the well-mown pitches, laidback vibe and room aplenty for smaller guests to run around. Summer is the liveliest time here, with an entertainment programme running in July and August, and a bar and restaurant open in the high season for convenient foodie times – and splendid views. A pétanque court, playground, games room and wifi zone are available at all times. Camping Caravanning St Louis is just over a kilometre or about 15 minutes' walk from Autingues and its shops and petrol station. Bread can be ordered on site from May to mid-September.

Liked Nice sized pitch with lots of green foliage portioning the space.
Toilets clean and close by.
Our son enjoyed playing with French children who were there for the summer.

Electric optional grass pitch

Liked We had a lovely welcome despite being late. We emailed to tell them we would be late due to a delay with our crossing and got a reply quickly assuring us that would be no problem and to check in via the restaurant. The young gentleman who checked us in was really welcoming. The site is small but the pitches are a decent size and we had plenty of room. There's a bar and restaurant - although we didn't use it, it was popular and had a friendly atmosphere. The toilet block is clean and there's laundry facilities too. The site was quite busy while we were there but everything quietened down at 21:30 as instructed by the rules. The dog was welcome and there's even a little enclosed field for dogs to play, which is a nice extra for such a small site. Location ideal for channel crossings, only 25 minutes from Leshuttle. A few beautiful villages within a few minutes drive or 30 minute walk for a bit of exploring. Highly recommend and we would visit again.

Disliked This is no slight on the site but it is not a place that has a lot for children to do (a smal games room and a small playground, no pool etc) so we were baffled that there were people staying with children who were just left to cycle around and around all day going round the same loop. If you don't want to entertain your own children, go to a bigger site with more to keep them occupied.

Electric optional grass pitch

Liked De camping was oké.

2 bedroom static caravan

Liked 25mins drive from the ferry

Disliked This place should only be considered as a brief stopover — somewhere to lay your head for a single night before continuing your journey.

Unfortunately, our experience was far from welcoming. The receptionist was extremely rude and unprofessional. Be warned: they require a €350 deposit for damages and cleaning, but seem to automatically deduct €50 regardless, often claiming the caravan was left dirty or citing fabricated damages. I strongly recommend recording video evidence of the caravan both on arrival and departure to protect yourself.

The accommodation is very basic — no oven, no TV, no WiFi access, and not even a kettle provided.

What’s more concerning is the receptionist’s behavior around the campsite. She was seen telling certain guests to return to their caravan by around 8pm, seemingly picking and choosing who to approach at her own discretion.

Overall, I highly do not recommend staying here. Only consider it as a last resort for a quick overnight stay.

From the manager: Hi,
thank you for your review.
At least, they was gaz and pan to boil water.
It is written in the offer that the wifi is near the restaurant and that there is no tv in the mobilhome.
I ask your children to make a little less noise, it was after 10 pm, and this regarding to the people already sleeping. The internal rules at the entrance say the noise is avoid after 10 pm. Maybe we don't have the same meridian time.
The accomodation is a normal accomodation for rent in a campsite (gaz, microwave, and the needed dishes, fridge, bed, pillows ans blankets). The mobilhomes are new. 2024 models.
I can't add, in this answer pictures of the mobilhome after your stay....

Local attractions

The site is on the edge of the Caps et Marais d'Opale Natural Regional Park, a popular local spot for walks and bike rides; more of the same, as well as wildlife watching in scenic surrounds, is at the Canche Bay Nature Reserve to the park's south. The medieval town of Ardres a few minutes' drive away is a must-see in this part of Pas-de-Calais – and a popular destination for holidaymakers on weekend breaks from Britain. Carve out time for the ancient and award-winning Thursday morning market, the bird sanctuary and the garden of the Maison de la Nature at the very least… and make it a mission to find the town bakery and patisserie too. From Ardres, follow the canal (starting from Calais harbour) along to Saint-Omer and the nearby World War II bunker Blockhaus of Éperlecques and its museum, or further along to Lille, an hour and 25 minutes' drive from the site.
