A site for British sorts – and for other holidaying types seeking pleasant stays in the north of France: Camping Caravanning St Louis is a green and peaceful site in the Nord-Pas-de-Calais, in the municipality of Autingues. At a 25-minute drive from the Channel Tunnel and five minutes' drive from the A6 motorway, your holiday options are huge here – use the site as a stopover on your way south into France or north into Blighty, or stay put to explore these handsome surrounds. If you're sticking around for a bit, you may like to know taht the site is on the edge of the Caps et Marais d'Opale Natural Regional Park for hikes and bike rides around its hills, countryside and marshland; it's also an easy couple of kilometres from Ardres with its lake and waterside leisure complex. This is a mightily well-maintained site, with excellent amenities including a renovated shower and toilet block hailed as spotless by gratified former guests. The friendly and helpful team also help to make this a popular place, as do the well-mown pitches, laidback vibe and room aplenty for smaller guests to run around. Summer is the liveliest time here, with an entertainment programme running in July and August, and a bar and restaurant open in the high season for convenient foodie times – and splendid views. A pétanque court, playground, games room and wifi zone are available at all times. Camping Caravanning St Louis is just over a kilometre or about 15 minutes' walk from Autingues and its shops and petrol station. Bread can be ordered on site from May to mid-September.

Electric optional grass touring pitch

Liked Nice quiet site with good sized pitches which were fairly level. Dog area, although a bit uneven, was great for our whippet to have a run untethered. Restaurant and bar was a nice area and menu looked good, although we didn’t use it on this occasion.

Electric optional grass touring pitch

Liked Small, secluded site which was very peaceful and quiet. Spacious pitches and easy to navigate map provided. Friendly/helpful staff and although we didn’t use the restaurant, it looked great and other campers had nothing but good things to say about the food and drink! There were 3 showers and 3 toilets in the women’s section which was plenty considering the camp wasn’t overly busy. The facilities were exceptionally clean, one of the cleanest I’ve seen with someone constantly cleaning up the showers and toilet area.
There is a small playground for the kids - 2 swings and a climbing frame and a games room with board games and books.
Close to Le Shuttle and Cité Europe and a great place to stop over if you were travelling to/from the UK!

Disliked There is only one hairdryer and hand dryer and they are both slightly lacking in power! The games room doesn’t have much going for it, could use a bit of a re-vamp if it is being advertised as something for kids to enjoy.

Electric optional grass touring pitch

Liked This is a well situated site with easy access onto the Ramparts and town .The pitches are well spaced and those on the lower level would benefit from tidying. The showers and washing up area were clean and there was plenty of hot water .The family running it were friendly and helpful

Disliked Gravel pitches were covered in weeds

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Good morning,
Thank you for your review.
Our lawnmower broke down before the opening of the season. We do our best with small tools to cut the grass.
We have only one gravel pitch which is not covered by weeds. I can't insert picture in my answer to prove it.
We will be happy to see you again.
Kind regards.

Local attractions

The site is on the edge of the Caps et Marais d'Opale Natural Regional Park, a popular local spot for walks and bike rides; more of the same, as well as wildlife watching in scenic surrounds, is at the Canche Bay Nature Reserve to the park's south. The medieval town of Ardres a few minutes' drive away is a must-see in this part of Pas-de-Calais – and a popular destination for holidaymakers on weekend breaks from Britain. Carve out time for the ancient and award-winning Thursday morning market, the bird sanctuary and the garden of the Maison de la Nature at the very least… and make it a mission to find the town bakery and patisserie too. From Ardres, follow the canal (starting from Calais harbour) along to Saint-Omer and the nearby World War II bunker Blockhaus of Éperlecques and its museum, or further along to Lille, an hour and 25 minutes' drive from the site.
