General

  • In the Dordogne with direct access to the Vézère river
  • Near ancient caves and UNESCO sites
  • Pool, library, restaurant and grocery shop

What a lush locale: family-friendly is in the Dordogne, in a wildlife haven with direct access to the Vézère river, with easy access to fishing, canoeing, mountain biking and horse riding – or just charging up one's batteries under the warm sun.

Or might you dig some ancient days instead? La Rivière local town of Les Eyzies-de-Tayac-Sireuil in the Périgord Noir is a UNESCO World Heritage Site for many an old attraction, and the area as a whole has ancient sites galore, like the stalagmites and stalactite-filled cavern of the Grotte du Grand-Roc and the prehistoric paintings of the fab subterranean network making up the Lascaux Caves.

On-site facilities at La Rivière include a heated swimming pool and a paddling pool, a pétanque court, tennis and volleyball courts, ping pong tables, a library, a grocery shop, and free wifi in reception. The restaurant dishes up the best of tasty and traditional Perigourdine cuisine: you might fancy trying the Perigord trout fillet and the warm goat cheese salad...?

Evening entertainment, kids' shows and rock-climbing excursions (this is rocky land) are organised in summer by the friendly campsite team.

Please note

The outdoor swimming pool is open between 9am and 9pm (subject to weather conditions).

lovely site, just on the banks of the eyzies within easy walking distance to the town, where we had the best steak of our travels. the campsite is extremely well laid out, and all pitches are spacious and shaded. plenty of shower facilities. the swimming pool is clean and attractive and the restaurant is very good as well. staff are friendly and polite and overall the site has a lovely relaxing feel to it, would definitely stay again.

    Disliked:

poor wifi which is only available sitting around reception and we struggled to log in, not a problem for us, but teenage son not so happy. other customers appeared to be having similar problems with this.

A well designed site with very clean facilities 23/08/2016

Well designed site around central area of traditional buildings - very attractive
excellent restaurant with good local dishes which were very good value - no need to eat out
    clean modern toilet facilities
good walking access to village along river
good access to river for swimming
access to cycle trails and beyond
    friendly staff
    fun children's entertainers
fresh bread and croissant every morning

    Disliked:

noisy entertainment on one night with a singer which was far too loud for just a few people in the bar, no-one on the site could have slept. It also didn't finish until midnight. The music didn't need to be that loud. Why not have a quiet guitarist. Sound really travels when you are only in a tent

Some tent location adjacent the road would have been noisy, luckily we were positioned towards the river

    wifi irregular

tennis tables were a bit uneven - but still very popular

Local attractions

Several old castles like the Château de Castelnaud and the Château de Beynac dot the countryside of this part of France, along with colourful and comely little villages such as La Roque Gageac, above the Dordogne river and one of the Les Plus Beaux Villages de France.

Smashing Bergerac should be near the top of any list of day tripping options for the region around , for a whole heap of things including its medieval streets, tasty tuck and famed wine. And its town museum, statue museum, tobacco museum and riverside wine house with exhibition on the history of wine growing…

Deeply recommended are the caves and Paleolithic paintings of the Lascaux Caves, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You'll likely also dig the Grotte du Grand Roc/Cave of the Big Rock, and the National Prehistory Museum, both back in town at Les Eyzies-de-Tayac-Sireuil.
