Camping Le Pommier Rustique: Soaking up the view from our pitch

General

  • Family-friendly Wallonia site 10 minutes' walk from Durnal village
  • A 20-minute drive from Dinant's fortress and adventure park
  • Café, bar, sauna, hot tub, playgrounds and outdoor gym on site

Rustique indeed is Camping Le Pommier Rustique, surrounded as it is by a peaceful part of the Wallonia region. But though it may be rural, it’s also rather well connected – the village of Durnal is a 10-minute stroll away and the slightly larger Spontin a five-minute journey by car or bus.

You could head to either for supermarket supplies if you’re self catering, or delegate all cooking activities to the folk on site. This, after all, is a place that likes its food: the café serves up a range of warm dishes, grilled goodies and snacks, including proper Belgian fries (woe betide anyone that dares call them French fries…) Ice creams, coffees and cocktails are also on the menu, as is a fine range of Belgian beers to sample your way through.

To atone for some of those hamburgers, croque monsieurs and beers, you may opt to have a workout at the outdoor gym, play a game of volleyball or hire bikes for a ride in the rural surrounds – any such efforts can be rewarded with a soak in the Jacuzzi or a steamy session in the sauna. Kids, meanwhile, can let off steam at the playgrounds (one for the real tiddlers, the other for slightly older ones) or bouncing on the trampoline.

Table tennis and pétanque are also here for folk who fancy a gentle level of activity, and high-season guests can join in with frequent tournaments. Win or lose, there’s often a party to restore friendships of an evening, or a big sporting event on the TV to divert your attentions.

Please note

Discount cards and gift vouchers cannot be applied to bookings made via Pitchup.com.

Bookings must not be for more than 10 consecutive nights.

Entertainment and activities are available between 01/07 and 31/08.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro) and/or any of the following: Staffordshire bull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier, Rottweiler, any Mastiff or Tosa.

Reception is unmanned after 6 p.m.. Please inform the site while on your way there should you expect to arrive after this time, so that the team can provide information about your unit/pitch.

The sauna (and/or hammam) is open between 01/03 and 30/12.

The restaurant is open between 01/04 and 15/10.

From the manager...

hello dear ,
thank you for your comment but I find it injust ;
cafetaria and snackbar are closed during the week (April ---> June and September ---> November ) ; C and S open each day in July and August ; it is so written on our site and also on Pitchup ; the rest of the year , we can not open for 3 or 4 customers because it costs us a lot of money , sorry ...
but you can always ask the guardian something for taking away ;
pitches too small ? at the entrance of our campsite , it is written : choose a pitch by yourself ; their are smal of big pitches (200 m²) , you can choose by yourself , so , what do you need more ?
you do not wait at the entrance , you go via the parking and look yourself a pitch;

    Site was peaceful, bathroom facilities were clean, there was a lovely view over fields. It's a great stop over site for one night whilst traveling into Europe.

    Disliked:

    None of the site facilities (sauna etc) were open when we went in May not sure if we were too early in the season. There was no loo roll or hand drying towels or dryer in bathrooms. The pitch we had could be seen from the road which is right next to the site, so people driving past could see us sitting on our camping chairs.

From the manager...

hello, of course sauna and jacuzzi are open but you need to pay for ...!
in campings in Belgium , never you will find roll or towels in the bathrooms , it will be catastrophic because people has no respect ... and therefore are the jacuzzi and sauna only on request ...
for the pitch , you can choose the pitch you prefere ; you were not obliged to go to the one along the way ...! see indicaded boards at the entrance , go and choose a pitch by yourself .. total freedom ...!
regards, olivier

    Disliked:

    Not a dislike, but some people should note: you need to take your own toilet roll, soap etc to the toilets and showers. It is not provided.
    This is normal at some campsites! Don’t just expect it to be there.

    The campsite has everything you need, parking, cafe with bar & good food in the evenings. I’d love to come back in summer

    Disliked:

    The cabin was very cold in the evening, the plug in heater worked on/off but I doubt many people will have that problem as I stayed in April so not yet camping season.
    Getting hold of someone on site was a bit awkward at the start, but again they explained normally off season they don’t expect anyone from 6pm by which time the restraunt would be open too. So nobody to blame really but the staff could have been quicker to answer the phone/doorbell as I waited near 20 minutes in the rain and cold on my motorbike.

    Disliked:

    Bins and recycling a big mess.
    Expensive.
    Wifi only available near the reception and cafe and even then not a good connection.

From the manager...

thank you for your appreciation ; sauna is open on request ; jacuzzi not open this year because of covid !
recycling is a normal operation , not in England perhaps ?
what is expensive ? we are in high saison , what do you need , you know before coming ... if you want low prices , come in September ...wifi is free on all the site ; in high saison all together give not a premium connection ; if you come now , it is excellent ! regards, olivier

Local attractions

If you’re after more activity once you’ve warmed up on site, divert to Dinant Evasion (20 minutes’ drive), an adventure park with treetop trails, paintballing and kayaking, or aim for Yvoir Island (20 minutes) for waterskiing, swims and high-speed inflatable rides on the river.

Cycle trips are a fine way to get out and about locally; if you fear going astray from your chosen route, banish any such possibilities by getting in the saddle at Les Draisines de Molignée (25 minutes), a velorail that runs along an abandoned railway line through the pretty Molignée valley.

Another fab ride nearby is the cable car in Dinant (20 minutes), which glides up to its medieval fortress for some excellent views. Château de Vêves (15 minutes) is worth a stop if you like a handsome building, as is the slightly bonkers Grotte Saint Antoine De Padoue (10 minutes), an elaborate manmade rock church.

Love the Belgian beers? See where some of them come from at Brasserie de Bocq brewery (10 minutes), where tours are signed off with samples to sip.
