  • Well-equipped Flanders holiday park on the edge of Jabbeke
  • Bruges or Ostend 15 minutes' drive; half an hour to Blankenberge beach
  • Restaurants and kids' activities; playground and pétanque court
Bruges 15 minutes’ drive in one direction, Ostend and the Flanders coast the same amount in the other, easy access from the A10 motorway… and right here by the site a small lake, a beach (open in July and August only) and a whole lot of open space in which to relax. Yes, it’s safe to say that Vakantiepark Klein Strand is in an excellent location for an action-packed family holiday. This well-equipped holiday park is just on the edge of Jabbeke, about 10 minutes’ walk from the town’s shops, cafés and restaurants. If you don’t feel like going that far, no worries – there are two small restaurants on site (a Chinese and another serving up family favourites like pizzas and burgers), and you’re welcome to light up a barbecue as well. Working up an appetite shouldn’t be difficult at all, given the many activities available on site or nearby. A real highlight of this park is the lifeguarded lakefront beach with waterslides, which is open in July and August for swimming; it is close to the A10 and you may hear some traffic noise. From May to the end of September, sign yourself up for watersports for an additional fee too. Elsewhere are a playground and pétanque court, and the site runs kids’ and teens’ activities in high season (giving parents a chance to chill out on the park’s terrace or around the gardens). More activity? You got it. There are some lovely areas nearby for walks and bike rides, and you can easily take days out in Bruges (15 minutes’ drive), Ghent (35 minutes) or up at the coast in places like Ostend (15 minutes) and Blankenberge (half an hour).

What customers say

This is a well-maintained campsite with friendly and helpful staff, praised for its spacious, private pitches. Its location is a significant draw, offering easy access to Bruges by bus or bike. On-site facilities include a bar, Chinese restaurant, and a lake with a beach and aqua park, which are popular with families. However, some visitors experienced noise from nearby roads or other guests, and there are recurring comments about the showers being costly and the sanitary facilities requiring better cleaning and maintenance due to high usage.

Liked Mogelijkheden op de camping

Disliked Toiletgebouw.

Fully-serviced grass touring pitch

Liked Good toilet and washing up facilities. Large pitches well maintained. Beach and beach bar amazing. Friendly helpful staff. Good bus links to Brugge and Ostend. Great set up for kids! A baby bird fell out of its nest and the staff got a crane to put it back. (So caring).

Disliked Paying extra for showers, this seems unnecessary.

Fully-serviced grass touring pitch

Liked Great location to the local village with 3 supermarkets.
Bus stop 10 mins walk to either Bruge or Oostende, run frequently.
Chip shop on site was good, beach & bar was good with water sports.
Pitches were level with electric, water & waste.
Friendly staff.

Disliked Toilets & showers could of been cleaner.
Showers were 50cents per minute, not per shower.
Could do with more showers as the site is big, there is only 4.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Can not fault this campsite we had a lovely stay. All pitches are separated by hedges which was nice, lots of toilets, plugs in the shower area were working. They had a beach area with slides, and an inflatable park which was easily bookable at the bar this was an extra cost. They had a nice large play area for the kids the grounds were clean and tidy. Receptionist really helpful and spoke English they have an onsite bar and take away and on the other side of the park where the reception is they have a Chinese takeaway. Didn’t have any food from either of the onsite places so can’t comment on that. About half hour drive to Bruges and 40 minutes to Ghent and 20 minutes drive to the beach ostende and 40 minutes drive from Dunkirk.

Fully-serviced grass touring pitch

Liked The site was lovely, well laid out and perfect for a one night stay. The pitches were well maintained, the hedges surrounding the pitch made your space feel like your own.
The access to the lake a short walk away was a nice touch, with the optional extras for hiring paddle boards or going on an inflatable assault course.
The kids enjoyed the play area, which is near an outdoor seating area for the bar.
The onsite chip shop was lovely, but very busy! For anyone gluten free/coeliac, they offer GF chips cooked in a dedicated frier.

Disliked The site was quite noisy, not sure if it was the site specifically or the local area as we were quite close to the front.
The cost of the showers considering the block was outdated.
Needs a shop as the vending machines had very little in.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Great park, camping is set away from the main area of static homes but this actually works nicely. Camping area has its own splash pool, play park, bar, takeaway and eat in food. There’s also access to the beach included within your stay (we didn’t go). We used for an overnight stay before going home on the Eurotunnel, met several other campers who were doing the same as their first or last stop of holiday

Disliked Some of the facilities in the toilet block were broken. You also have a code system for the shower where you pay for the usage, although I don’t mind, you only find this out at check in (able to top up by card)

Local attractions

Gentle walks and bike rides part of your holiday plan? Start local with trips to the Maskobossen forest (five minutes’ drive/10 minutes’ cycle) or visit one of the last Flemish polder hayland landscapes at the Paddegat nature reserve (10 minutes’ drive/15 minutes’ cycle). A little further afield is the coastal scenery of the Zwin Nature Park (35 minutes’ drive), where you can also take a walk on the beach. Speaking of beaches, there are some lovely beach towns along the coast, including Blankenberge (half an hour), with its aquarium and Art Nouveau buildings, and Knokke-Heist (35 minutes), a local favourite for its nine kilometres of sand. A day trip to Bruges (15 minutes) should certainly be on the cards too, for a boat tour on the canals, a climb up the Belfry Tower, some art at the Groeningemuseum and a wander around all the pretty streets and squares. If you’ve got more days to fill, you could also take a trip to Ghent (35 minutes) or visit the battlefields and In Flanders Fields Museum in Ypres (50 minutes).
