  • Well-equipped Flanders holiday park on the edge of Jabbeke
  • Bruges or Ostend 15 minutes' drive; half an hour to Blankenberge beach
  • Restaurants and kids' activities; playground and pétanque court
Bruges 15 minutes’ drive in one direction, Ostend and the Flanders coast the same amount in the other, easy access from the A10 motorway… and right here by the site a small lake, a beach (open in July and August only) and a whole lot of open space in which to relax. Yes, it’s safe to say that Vakantiepark Klein Strand is in an excellent location for an action-packed family holiday. This well-equipped holiday park is just on the edge of Jabbeke, about 10 minutes’ walk from the town’s shops, cafés and restaurants. If you don’t feel like going that far, no worries – there are two small restaurants on site (a Chinese and another serving up family favourites like pizzas and burgers), and you’re welcome to light up a barbecue as well. Working up an appetite shouldn’t be difficult at all, given the many activities available on site or nearby. A real highlight of this park is the lifeguarded lakefront beach with waterslides, which is open in July and August for swimming; it is close to the A10 and you may hear some traffic noise. From May to the end of September, sign yourself up for watersports for an additional fee too. Elsewhere are a playground and pétanque court, and the site runs kids’ and teens’ activities in high season (giving parents a chance to chill out on the park’s terrace or around the gardens). More activity? You got it. There are some lovely areas nearby for walks and bike rides, and you can easily take days out in Bruges (15 minutes’ drive), Ghent (35 minutes) or up at the coast in places like Ostend (15 minutes) and Blankenberge (half an hour).

Fully-serviced grass touring pitch

Liked Staff are extremely helpful and facilities are brilliant and clean. Would definitely stay again

Disliked Some pitches were very wet and unsuitable for tents so if you are camping you may need to ask to move to a dry pitch.

Recommend to friends Visit again

Would stay again if in the area, convenient for what we needed.

Fully-serviced grass touring pitch

Liked Big pitches, clean facilities, pay as you go laundry, bar/cafe on site which does meals & snacks, short walk to Chinese restaurant which offers takeaway, lovely friendly helpful reception staff & dog friendly (although you pay extra for dogs) oh & the wifi worked great. Short drive to both Bruge & Ostend which was our reason for booking the site . Looks like there would be great activities during the summer which would be great for families with a lake nearby that offer water sports with slides etc.

Disliked Didn’t really dislike anything apart from work being done on site, lots of work vehicles/diggers etc back and forth (& we were close to the entrance).Around the electric box & water tap was all dug up & awkward to get to, but we were there out of season & they have to do work at some point, so better in the winter months when fewer people are there so don’t really want to complain about that because it won’t last forever.
Not sure if the winter months are discounted (especially with work going on) if it was it would mean it would be expensive in peak time because it wasn’t the cheapest site, but one of the only few in the area open all year. Think you would get more for your money peak season.
Also you have to pay extra for showers… which was only 50cents per min which you have to load to your ‘passcode’ so ended up paying more than we needed because we were unsure how much we would need (anything you don’t use is then refunded to your card which could take time) for the price of the site I think showers could be included.

Fully-serviced hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked Friendly welcome at check in. Shop and nice walks near by. We stayed during winter season so everything was closed (we knew this in advance) but we were here only for a one night stop on our travels. Toilets/wash facilities were clean

Disliked Showers were 0.50 per minute. Building work going on and diggers started work at 8am

Liked Good pitch, good sanitary facilities, good pub/restaurants.

Disliked The road names are not given in the booking confirmation. So it is hard to find the pitch, especially if it already dark.

Fully-serviced hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked bus to Brugge near the campsite

Disliked Close to motorway but was acceptable
Paid showers which was hard to figure out how to load money onto the card.
Entrance of reception not being by the campsite but by the bungalow park and then having to do a U-turn to get back. Signage really needs improving from the main road so you don't turn into the wrong entrance!

Local attractions

Gentle walks and bike rides part of your holiday plan? Start local with trips to the Maskobossen forest (five minutes’ drive/10 minutes’ cycle) or visit one of the last Flemish polder hayland landscapes at the Paddegat nature reserve (10 minutes’ drive/15 minutes’ cycle). A little further afield is the coastal scenery of the Zwin Nature Park (35 minutes’ drive), where you can also take a walk on the beach. Speaking of beaches, there are some lovely beach towns along the coast, including Blankenberge (half an hour), with its aquarium and Art Nouveau buildings, and Knokke-Heist (35 minutes), a local favourite for its nine kilometres of sand. A day trip to Bruges (15 minutes) should certainly be on the cards too, for a boat tour on the canals, a climb up the Belfry Tower, some art at the Groeningemuseum and a wander around all the pretty streets and squares. If you’ve got more days to fill, you could also take a trip to Ghent (35 minutes) or visit the battlefields and In Flanders Fields Museum in Ypres (50 minutes).
