  • Well-equipped Flanders holiday park on the edge of Jabbeke
  • Bruges or Ostend 15 minutes' drive; half an hour to Blankenberge beach
  • Restaurants and kids' activities; playground and pétanque court
Bruges 15 minutes’ drive in one direction, Ostend and the Flanders coast the same amount in the other, easy access from the A10 motorway… and right here by the site a small lake, a beach (open in July and August only) and a whole lot of open space in which to relax. Yes, it’s safe to say that Vakantiepark Klein Strand is in an excellent location for an action-packed family holiday. This well-equipped holiday park is just on the edge of Jabbeke, about 10 minutes’ walk from the town’s shops, cafés and restaurants. If you don’t feel like going that far, no worries – there are two small restaurants on site (a Chinese and another serving up family favourites like pizzas and burgers), and you’re welcome to light up a barbecue as well. Working up an appetite shouldn’t be difficult at all, given the many activities available on site or nearby. A real highlight of this park is the lifeguarded lakefront beach with waterslides, which is open in July and August for swimming; it is close to the A10 and you may hear some traffic noise. From May to the end of September, sign yourself up for watersports for an additional fee too. Elsewhere are a playground and pétanque court, and the site runs kids’ and teens’ activities in high season (giving parents a chance to chill out on the park’s terrace or around the gardens). More activity? You got it. There are some lovely areas nearby for walks and bike rides, and you can easily take days out in Bruges (15 minutes’ drive), Ghent (35 minutes) or up at the coast in places like Ostend (15 minutes) and Blankenberge (half an hour).

What customers say

This is a well-maintained, clean campsite with spacious, private pitches. It's praised for its excellent location for visiting Bruges and Ghent, with good public transport links. Facilities, including showers and toilets, are generally clean and powerful, though some found them dated or insufficient during busy periods. The aqua park, lake, and beach are popular with families. Some guests noted noise from nearby roads, ongoing site maintenance, and issues with the shower payment system.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked This site is the perfect location for a holiday with young children and parents who want to relax. The splash park being next to a shady bar where you can enjoy a coffee or a beer whilst your children play is perfect. The town is also a short walk and has a lovely bakery. Staff are helpful and friendly. Would definitely come back

Disliked Nothing at all.

Liked The slides and the beach! The kids loved it.
Size of pitch was good.
The aqua park was good value and a lot of fun!
Toilets were kept clean and stocked.
Showers powerful.
Close drive to Bruges and Ghent! Both worth a visit.

Disliked Quite a strong sewer smell at times. Which really wasn’t pleasant.
I didn’t like that you had to pay for showers.
The grass pitch had a lot of grass missing and was filled with almost a dry mud.

I would say it’s a good base, rather than a place you want to spend a lot of time here.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Fully-serviced grass touring pitch

Liked The hedges that partitioned the pitch which was flat and well sized.

Disliked Insufficient toilet and shower facilities for the size of site. The noise from the bar was loud late in to the night (11pm) and there was no expectation for guests to be quiet to allow others to sleep.

Local attractions

Gentle walks and bike rides part of your holiday plan? Start local with trips to the Maskobossen forest (five minutes’ drive/10 minutes’ cycle) or visit one of the last Flemish polder hayland landscapes at the Paddegat nature reserve (10 minutes’ drive/15 minutes’ cycle). A little further afield is the coastal scenery of the Zwin Nature Park (35 minutes’ drive), where you can also take a walk on the beach. Speaking of beaches, there are some lovely beach towns along the coast, including Blankenberge (half an hour), with its aquarium and Art Nouveau buildings, and Knokke-Heist (35 minutes), a local favourite for its nine kilometres of sand. A day trip to Bruges (15 minutes) should certainly be on the cards too, for a boat tour on the canals, a climb up the Belfry Tower, some art at the Groeningemuseum and a wander around all the pretty streets and squares. If you’ve got more days to fill, you could also take a trip to Ghent (35 minutes) or visit the battlefields and In Flanders Fields Museum in Ypres (50 minutes).
