  • Café and shop; watersports, bike hire, fishing and woodland walks
Picked Pembrokeshire as your destination because of the scenery? You’ll be able to soak it up at all hours when staying at Llys-y-frân Lakeview Campsite – this family-friendly site is on the banks of Llys-y-frân Reservoir, with fabulous watery views (at their best at sunset, thanks to the site’s west-facing location). You may well want to spend a fair amount of time simply looking out over the lake while you’re here – perhaps from a table at the Lakeside Café, which serves up hot drinks and sweet treats as well as a lunchtime menu of hot food showcasing top-notch local produce. Alternatively, bring your fishing kit and settle in for a relaxed day trying to catch trout from the lakeshore or one of the electric boats. Got something more energetic in mind? You’ll be sorted too, as the terraced site slopes down to an activity centre where you can book kayaking, canoeing and paddleboarding sessions or hire bikes to hit the lakeside path or mountain bike trails. For other land-based activities, have a go at archery or channel your inner Celt with some axe throwing. For the younger adventurers, there are off-road six-wheeler ‘Crazi Bugz’ vehicles to drive, a climbing wall and an adventure playground. For something slower-paced, try woodland walks from the site, or set out a feast at one of the picnic spots. Dogs are also catered for with an agility playground. Practical facilities include hot showers, toilets in the activity centre, chemical disposal point, a washing-up area, a gift shop and wifi in the visitor centre. The village of Rosebush (10 minutes’ drive) is home to a characterful pub offering a traditional Welsh experience.

Electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Beautiful location! Very clean and tidy, although we were the only campers for the week! People were there when we arrived and some arrived as we left. Big sized pitches, we asked to change the pitch allocated to us as towards the front of the pitch, it sloped down, but this was done without a fuss, i presume as we were the only campers but could be an issue in busier periods! I’d advise to shower before the visitor centre opens in the morning or after it closes in the evening, as the public can also use the shower/toilet facilities, but this didnt bother us! Water tap on opposite side to EHU, which we found great, as not walking far to get water. Plenty of day out places nearby that could cost a fortune or not spend a penny, anyone visiting here, i would highly suggest Scolton Manor and Tenby! These were our low cost days out and loved by all ages!

Disliked: Very little activities for children under 6 years, but i believe this is being looked into.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Good location, warden was very helpful and friendly, facilities were clean.

Disliked: Although facilities were spotlessly clean the idea of sharing with the visitors using the reservoir is off putting. Showers only have a couple of hooks to hang your things and the water drains back to the door so nowhere dry to change unless you exit and change in the open changing room. Only 1 male cubicle. Washing up facilities had small sinks, couldn't wash our bbq grill. For the price £40 pn I think it should have own toilet and shower block and bigger sink. Focused more on day visiting than the campers.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: The closeness to the pump track! Our 8 year old did nothing but cycle round and round. The scenery was beautiful and it’s a really peaceful site.

Disliked: No ball games aloud on the site was a huge blow for us, with 2 ballgame mad boys but the pitches are very close to each other so can see their reasoning. The site is only really sheltered on one side so can be battered by the wind. Men’s showers are open gym locker style but there was signage saying these would be improved.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you Fran. Every review is appreciated. If you do decide to visit again we there is a field behind the campsite where ball games can be played and the shower cubicles are to be fitted this weekend.

Excellent site, very clean facilities, well lit at night.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Lovely venue and an impressive range of activities - it's a super location and ideal for family's who like onsite water based activities along with walking, cycling and other. Great location.

Disliked: Getting there in a motorhome can be slightly challenging given the very narrow roads locally in places, that obviously their fault but you need to ignore direct GPS directions and check for wider A&B roads. It wasn't a huge problem but i personally wasn't keen on the communal showers in the mens changing room rather than individual booths where you can hang clothes, soap, towel etc.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you Simon, we are pleased you enjoyed our site. The men's shower cubicles are due to be fitted this month after some lengthy delays.

Electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: This is the first campsite I’ve visited with toilet and shower being exceptionally clean. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. There’s plenty to do for all the family with some lovely walks.

Disliked: The only downside for us is , we live in the midlands so it’s a 4 hour drive to get there otherwise I would definitely visit this place more often

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you, Joanne, for your lovely review. Coming from the midlands myself, I also wish it was was a shorter drive. We do look forward to seeing you all again soon.

Local attractions

There’s a lot to do on site, for sure – but there’s also plenty to keep you busy when venturing out into your surroundings. The Pembrokeshire coast, for example, is less than half an hour’s drive away, for beach days in the likes of Broad Haven (half an hour’s drive), the ever-popular Tenby or its neighbour Saundersfoot (both 40 minutes). Pembrokeshire’s packed with historic places to visit too, including the lovely little city of St Davids (40 minutes), with its ancient cathedral and Bishops’ Palace. Carew Castle & Tidal Mill (35 minutes) is also worth a visit, to hear the tale of the castle’s 2000-year history and see the only restored tidal mill in Wales. If that’s not the kind of thing your kids are keen on, perhaps instead plan trips to the Pembrokeshire Llama Sanctuary (15 minutes), Folly Farm Adventure Park and Zoo (half an hour) or the action-packed Heatherton World of Activities (35 minutes) for things like paintballing, ziplines and crazy golf.
