Trefach Holiday Park: Some of the pitches

General

  • Family-friendly site in Pembrokeshire Coast National Park
  • Outdoor heated swimming pool on site
  • Less than 30 minutes’ drive from Oakwood Theme Park

Peace, the Preseli Hills and an outdoor pool where you can watch the kids splash around from the comfort of the courtyard terrace… think you could handle some of that on your hols? If so, pitch up at family-friendly Trefach Holiday Park, minutes from the hills of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park.

Trefach is a peaceful and secluded site in a remote location with scenic walks around the local countryside, but it’s within driving distance of loads of things to do too, like visiting the fishing villages and coastal towns of Tenby, Haverfordwest, Dinas Cross and Fishguard, tracking down some of the best views in Wales, or hitting Blue Flag beaches for watersports and lounging.

On site, there’s a play area and games room to keep the kids entertained alongside the heated pool, and a clubhouse and bar-restaurant serving up seasonal entertainment and meals.

How friendly the staff were and facilities were lovely and clean.
Both ladies working the club and reception were brilliant and seemed to work every day and all day and still managed to have a smile on the face.

    Disliked:

The pitch was not level breeze blocks were provided but we had to wait around 40 minutes for these.
More than 1 mop should be provided in the toilets for people to clean shower areas after them. Constantly no toilet roll left.

How welcoming and friendly the staff were upon arrival and throughout our stay. Rachel was most welcoming and great with my youngest son who had a little accident upon arrival, she immediately got us a first aid kit and treated him to a slush to help him forget.

Enjoyed the site facilities i.e the kids arcade, swimming pool and park, my children spent most of their time out and about the site.

    Disliked:

The toilet/shower facilities despite looking like a new feature to the site they were constantly wet & not very clean at all, hardly ever any loo roll available no matter the time of day. The showers were far too hot for me as an adult let alone children, I yelped myself and could hear my son in another cubicle yelp, this really needs resolving before someone gets seriously scolded.

The dishwashing area - again the water although lovely and hot for dishes the pressure just shoots out sprays everywhere resulting in possible scolding and I saw a lot of children using this area to help parents so again needs improving.

Cannot fault the friendliness of the staff and appreciate they did their best but could possibly do with a few more in the clubhouse to assist with meals etc, had quite a lengthy wait and wasn't that busy at the time. Seems all the staff are doing all the jobs, from bar work/cooking to cleaning the toilets etc

Mobile signal was very intermittent unless at the clubhouse - had it's upsides but also downsides should there be an emergency.

Beautiful location, facilities great, peaceful with extremely helpful and friendly staff. My son loved the pool and games room and the food from the clubhouse was gorgeous! Huge area to walk dogs and for kids to mess about. Electric did not trip once, no matter how many things we had plugged in which is a rarity. Been camping for over 20 years, can't believe I have never found this place before, will 100% be returning!

    Disliked:

We booked here for Easter weekend and had the worst experience, at first I wasn't going to leave a review as the staff on the day had been so lovely but after a very patronising and untruthful email off the owner, I feel the need to share it.
We arrived here on Friday (Easter weekend) on entering the caravan we noticed there was quite a few flies, some flying and some dying on the floors. We also could smell fly spray very strongly, but my partner suggested maybe it was some sort of anti bac for covid. (It was undeniably fly spray). Also I made a remark to him that it hadn't been cleaned very well, the carpets had dirty patches and I put the blinds down in the kitchen and they were dirty, plus other little marks but we are not fussy people so although not entirely happy, we just got on with it.
We were really eager to get out and explore the area so we brought our bags in and left for the day. We came back to the caravan around 7:30pm and my son alerted us to the amount of flies on the window sill, we couldn't believe how many there were and we then noticed flies EVERYWHERE.
My partner went to get a staff member who was really apologetic and without us even saying anything said she understands that we won't want to sleep in there.
The park manager then came to see us and she told us she had seen flies in the morning but just a few and they had used fly spray. I told her we wanted our money back and she said she would have to get in touch with the owner but it wouldn't be until the next day, but after seeing how disappointed we were she said she would issue us a refund "even if she had to cover it herself"
We had our refund and off we went, 8pm, fridge and freezer food in the car and very upset children.
The staff we had dealt with were brilliant, very honest and understanding. It's such a shame we then received a email that totally undermined our experience. The absolute cheek of it! Rachel we didn't "mishear" your staff at all, we were told fly spray WAS used that morning and your caravan was NOT clean enough, and I don't think I even need to mention the amount of flippin flies everywhere!
We would of definitely stayed here again, as honesty is the best policy for us and for the staff to own up to their wrongs is something we respect, clearly the owner should take a leaf out of the staffs book.

I have to say this is a nice park for children, lots of space to play and a lovely clean area (apart from what we had payed for) just be aware that if an issue does arise you may not be treated with respect from owner.

From the manager...

Having reviewed the emailed response to you, I fail to see where you can accuse us of having a patronising tone after offering a wholehearted apology for your experience and further offering a second refund to cover your pitch-up deposit.

I am truly sorry if you feel the response was at all patronising, it was in no way meant to come across that way. We are a family-run business that take negative experiences on our Park seriously and, where possible, we endeavour to rectify an issue the moment it arises. Unfortunately in your case, as you left the Park that evening, I was unable to meet you personally to offer my apologies or alternative accommodation on another one of our Parks.

Our offer still stands for the additional deposit refund for you and your family to enjoy a holiday at a Park of your choice. Please contact me via the Park email if you wish to take us up on this offer.

Local attractions

You don’t have to stick to fishing villages while you’re at Trefach Holiday Park: several towns are within driving distance of the site and you can take part in festivals, traipse around farmers’ markets or empty your wallet in the shops while you’re there.

Pembrokeshire’s arts and crafts capital, Narberth, is about 15 minutes’ drive from Trefach and the ruins of the Norman Narberth Castle lie just above the town. Slightly further afield, make the 30-minute trip to Cardigan for the National Wool Museum, New Quay Honey Farm and taking a boat out to dolphin-spot in Cardigan Bay.

Pack a picnic for a day in the Preseli Hills: explore on two feet or from horseback, and take in the views towards the Irish coast in the west and the Brecon Beacons to the east. See if you can spot bluestones just like the ones that make up part of the inner circle of Stonehenge and ask yourself whether the stones at Stonehenge were brought the 180 miles from here.

Take the kids to Oakwood Theme Park at nearby Narberth for a hair-raising experience on adrenaline-fuelled rides, or try something a little more sedate with go-karting or panning for gold in them thar hills. If rollercoasters aren’t their speed, try Folly Farm Adventure Park and Zoo, less than 30 minutes from Trefach, where they can visit the exotic animals in the zoo or get up close with the farm animals in the barn.

Elsewhere around Pembrokeshire and in the national park, there are gardens, vineyards, adventure farms, castles and more to explore, with plenty of options for wet days too: try slithering among the reptiles at Dragon Reptiles or jumping around the giant adventure playground at Bluestone National Park Resort.
