General

  • Family-friendly site in Pembrokeshire Coast National Park
  • Outdoor heated swimming pool on site
  • Less than 30 minutes’ drive from Oakwood Theme Park

Peace, the Preseli Hills and an outdoor pool where you can watch the kids splash around from the comfort of the courtyard terrace… think you could handle some of that on your hols? If so, pitch up at family-friendly Trefach Holiday Park, minutes from the hills of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park.

Trefach is a peaceful and secluded site in a remote location with scenic walks around the local countryside, but it’s within driving distance of loads of things to do too, like visiting the fishing villages and coastal towns of Tenby, Haverfordwest, Dinas Cross and Fishguard, tracking down some of the best views in Wales, or hitting Blue Flag beaches for watersports and lounging.

On site, there’s a play area and games room to keep the kids entertained alongside the heated pool, and a clubhouse and bar-restaurant serving up seasonal entertainment and meals.

I cant stress enough how disappointed we are with this site, I booked this site well in advance for 1 full week however I managed to double book myself and my wife for the day we were supposed to arrive at trefach to which I contacted the site and advised it was my fault and I could pay for that night but we would not arrive until the Sunday which was agreed all in email, it went down hill from there !.
We arrived on the Sunday late afternoon and was met with a stern “you were supposed to be here yesterday” apparently the email communication had not been passed to the site warden/manager, after taking our money she took my wife down to the pitch and by the time I got there with the caravan she had high tailed it for reasons that became all too evident !!!, the pitch was like a crater totally unsuitable for a tourer and no way could you erect an awning, it was a danger to the most able bodied and we had a person with us who is unsteady on her feet at the best of times, I immediately complained and after several failed attempts to find us a suitable pitch because they were either unwilling to enforce their own rules and make someone else move who were taking up a second pitch with their second car ! Or because they could only tag us on a muddy end plot with no electric wanting us to move next day after I explained more than once that I was setting up and leaving my wife, sister in law and two young children who had neither the means to move the caravan or now how to erect the awning and they needed electric for chilled foods, they then tried to coax a seasonal pitch holder to help put our awning up next day, who in their right mind would leave their family stranded like that at the mercy of strangers and allow a stranger to move their van and erect their awning, not me I can tell you, we ended up having our money back at gone 5pm on a bank holiday Sunday, I could probably write another full page about other selfish people on site hogging pitches but hey ho, the only silver lining on this cloud is that we managed to get on another site 20 minutes down the road who will be getting a glowing review, beware all that glitters is not gold !, and I’m still £30 out of pocket for the deposit I paid pitch up.

From the manager...

We are very sorry about the negative experience you had at Trefach; having spoken to the team onsite during your stay, it was agreed that the pitch you were assigned was not suitable and this particular pitch has now been removed from our booking system until it can be recitified and made good. You should have never been offered this pitch and we apologise for the frustration and disappointment this will have obviously caused you upon your arrival. The August Bank holiday weekend is our busiest weekend of the year and, as such, the tent and touring field was very busy. We can only apologise that the alternative pitch the Park Manager offered you, along with her assitance and our maintenance engineer the following morning to help your family in erecting the awning, was not to your satisfaction. Our team noted you were very pleasant and grateful for their attempt to solve the issues you experienced, thank you for being so understanding at what would have been a stressful time for you all. Please enjoy a complimentary stay with us at a date of your choosing to enable us to put this right and leave you with a better experience of our lovely Park.

    Everything!
My husband 3 children and I travelled here for a 4 night break over the August bank holiday weekend and all I can really say is WOW we loved every second of it! The pitches truly are unlimited when it comes to space as we own an extremely large 12 man air tent and we had plenty of room. The owners Nigel and Sue are so friendly and welcoming and Sue is an absolutely fantastic cook anyone who stays here must try her homemade chicken goujons they are to die for! Alcohol prices are amazing too £6.90 for a large wine and a pint of lager not bad at all. The campsite itself is very family oriented which we love it’s not one of those places you need eyes in the back of your head to watch the children the big open fields outdoor heated pool and park are all in complete eye site of wherever you are. It truly is a fantastic holiday park with a lovely friendly atmosphere and we as a family can’t wait to return so thank you Nigel Sue and Andrea for a wonderful holiday 😊

The only one thing which we found a bit annoying was there is absolutely no mobile signal here whatsoever not even one bar they do have WiFi which is fab while in the clubhouse but if too many people are on it then that doesn’t work either

    Nice spacious tent pitch

    Disliked:

On arrival I found the couple who run the clubhouse friendly. However we went up there on the second night for a drink and John seemed in high spirits but when we were due to leave we were questioned as to why we were leaving I explained that we were going to do a bbq back at the tent he then stated in a very different tone that our seats will not be kept for us.
We also booked in for a Sunday roast at the club house but didn’t make it as our children were too tired due to a party going on till early hours in a tent near by. When I went up to the club house to apologise a John was very rude to me and his wife had also muttered something under her breath whilst I was leaving. This was done In front of a full bar of customers who were in the middle of being served. Due to this we never bothered going up on our last evening so I can’t really comment on the entertainment although there was something advertised every evening but I felt too uncomfortable after the way I was spoken to!
There are only 2 male showers and 2 female showers for the camping site and although Andrea tried her best to keep up with it most of the times they were not the cleanest. I honestly think that they could do with more staff during the busier periods as from what I could see Andrea was the only one doing anything around the campsite.

Local attractions

You don’t have to stick to fishing villages while you’re at Trefach Holiday Park: several towns are within driving distance of the site and you can take part in festivals, traipse around farmers’ markets or empty your wallet in the shops while you’re there.

Pembrokeshire’s arts and crafts capital, Narberth, is about 15 minutes’ drive from Trefach and the ruins of the Norman Narberth Castle lie just above the town. Slightly further afield, make the 30-minute trip to Cardigan for the National Wool Museum, New Quay Honey Farm and taking a boat out to dolphin-spot in Cardigan Bay.

Pack a picnic for a day in the Preseli Hills: explore on two feet or from horseback, and take in the views towards the Irish coast in the west and the Brecon Beacons to the east. See if you can spot bluestones just like the ones that make up part of the inner circle of Stonehenge and ask yourself whether the stones at Stonehenge were brought the 180 miles from here.

Take the kids to Oakwood Theme Park at nearby Narberth for a hair-raising experience on adrenaline-fuelled rides, or try something a little more sedate with go-karting or panning for gold in them thar hills. If rollercoasters aren’t their speed, try Folly Farm Adventure Park and Zoo, less than 30 minutes from Trefach, where they can visit the exotic animals in the zoo or get up close with the farm animals in the barn.

Elsewhere around Pembrokeshire and in the national park, there are gardens, vineyards, adventure farms, castles and more to explore, with plenty of options for wet days too: try slithering among the reptiles at Dragon Reptiles or jumping around the giant adventure playground at Bluestone National Park Resort.
