Cenarth Falls Holiday Park: Play area

General

  • Award-winning family-run site in the small village of Cenarth
  • A 15-minute drive from the coast; 45 minutes from Oakwood theme park
  • Smart country club on site with bar, indoor pool, gym and Jacuzzi

Waterfall walks, cheese appreciation, leaping salmon, bobbing about in a coracle… there are several reasons why folk would settle in the little Carmarthenshire village of Cenarth. And you can add to that mix the fine collection of facilities at Cenarth Falls Holiday Park, an award-winning site 10 minutes’ walk from the village’s pubs, cafés and small supermarket.

Many certificates of excellence have been bestowed upon this park over the years – even the toilet block has been the recipient of its own gong. Bring the kids along, though, and they won’t bat an eyelid at such things – they’ll most likely be rather too distracted by spending time at the swish play area, challenging pals in the games room and working up an appetite for the pizzas that get served up in the country club on high season evenings (and weekends throughout the year).

The country club’s one of the real highlights of this park – it’s a place where you can settle with a drink in the comfy bar (with added musical entertainment on high season weekends) or pay a little extra for access to the adjacent health club, which houses an indoor pool, sauna, Jacuzzi, steam room and a gym. Come along in summer and there are also cooler dips to be had (for free) in the open-air pool.

Pizza alone doesn’t make for a very balanced diet (sorry, kids) so at some point it’s worth heading over to the nearest town, Newcastle Emlyn, five minutes’ drive away, for self-catering supplies and/or a range of pubs, restaurants and takeaways.

    Disliked:

Not enough room to park cars, no hose tap on plot. No grey waste only toilet to empty everything so you had to queue. No hedges for screening between plots. Bit noisy when kids trying to sleep. Playground is great for older kids and under 3 but nothing in between.

Quite clean peaceful site to relax and unwind, staff helpful and polite, short 10/15 min stroll, busy road but payment is fine, to the falls. Facilities on site closed due to the stupid covid rules on campsite toilets, no issue with these at supermarkets or restaurants thus absolutely no logic keeping them closed on campsites, rant over. Statics at entrance but small field with large level pitches just past these, about 30 pitches in all. Only issue really is that the brown water from motorhomes needs to be emptied at a location you cannot get to, too narrow, without driving on the grass which is frowned upon, for obvious reasons. The bridge at the falls is narrow with no pavement but no issue crossing, newly built path along river is now open, lovely breakfast at shop by the bridge and the White Hart Inn serves great real ale and very nice bar meals, the Three Horseshoes Inn was still closed, opening in May we were told by a local neighbour, great looking Ale house, detached from main restaurant building. River level low, down side of no rain, so not much falls but I would guess its spectacular at higher river levels.

    Disliked:

Access to motorhome brown waste point

    Tip
Sat Nav takes you onto the B3333, even when programmed for large vehicle, which is not a really suitable road being narrow and very bumpy with poor or non existent edge protection, best stay on the A484

The site was lovely and clean with large pitches and plenty of surrounding trees and wildlife. The lady in reception was very friendly and helpful. We would love to come back again next year when the pool and bar are open, these facilities being closed due to Covid. The site was within easy driving distance of Cenarth and other local market towns and walks.

Local attractions

You’ll want to start with a stroll around Cenarth, of course – those waterfalls are a 10-minute walk away, and the Teifi river is an excellent place for an amble – particularly when the salmon are jumping in late summer. It’s worth stopping in at the village’s National Coracle Centre to learn a bit about the traditional round boats, and taking the 10-minute drive to Caws Cenarth to sample the tasty local cheese.

Cenarth’s also a handy location for outings to the coast – try Cardigan (15 minutes’ drive) for dolphin-spotting trips, or Aberporth (20 minutes) for beach days – or walks in the Preseli Hills, around 15 minutes away by car. Cilgerran Castle (15 minutes), the National Trust estate at Llanerchaeron (35 minutes) and the tiny city of St Davids (an hour) also make excellent days out.

And if you’ve got the kids along, it’s quite possible (and reasonable) that they’ll be keen to add to the schedule days at Oakwood theme park and meeting the only giraffes in Wales at Folly Farm Adventure Park and Zoo (both around 45 minutes’ drive).

Must see

  • National Wool Museum (5.9 miles)
  • Llanerchaeron - National Trust (17.3 miles)
  • National Botanic Garden of Wales (21.8 miles)

National Trust

  • Dolaucothi Gold Mines (24.6 miles)
  • Aberdeunant (25.5 miles)
