General

  • Award-winning holiday park between Tenby and Saundersfoot
  • 15 minutes' walk from the closest beach and easy access to many others
  • Friendly lounge bar with TV and games room

When a business has been running for well over 50 years, you’d imagine they’d know a thing or two about how to keep their customers happy. A case in point is award-winning Well Park Caravans, which has been welcoming guests since 1960. And with a loyal crowd of visitors that return year after year, well, they must be doing something right.

So what’s the secret? Well, the location – a peaceful rural site around half an hour’s walk from the seaside towns of Tenby and Saundersfoot – is a good start. The fact that it’s only a 15-minute walk to a quiet little cove certainly helps. And the well-kept gardens, with rockeries, manicured lawns and an ornamental fish pond, are a joyous added bonus.

Not that the owners rely on location alone to keep their guests happy (you’re a discerning bunch, after all). A playground and sandpit have been installed to keep the smaller visitors amused and, as west Wales has been known to experience a drop of rain from time to time, there’s also an indoor games room where they can play video games or have a round of table tennis. Next door to this there’s also a friendly lounge bar with TV and a pool table.

All the facilities under the sun can’t make up for manky toilets though, and Well Park goes above and beyond to make sure it doesn’t falter with this basic but important feature. Family bathrooms, baby changing facilities, disabled access, private washing cubicles, hairdryers, shaving points, free hot showers? All present and correct here. You can also keep your holiday wardrobe in tiptop shape at the on-site launderette and ironing room.

All done up with nowhere to go? Nope – there are two pubs and a fish and chip van a few minutes’ walk away, and loads of fab restaurants in Saundersfoot and Tenby. If you need to pick up eats and drinks for back on site, there are supermarkets in both towns and a mini market a five-minute walk from the park.

This camping site is as good as it gets. Has all the facilities necessary plenty of space and the management is very laid back. 5-10 minutes to Tenby by car, I would definitely be coming back.

    Disliked:

Closeness to the main road. Perhaps a bit more vegetation could close the gap to the road and reduce the noise polution

Lovely site, great clean facilities probably the best I've used. Recommend the walk to the beach beautiful secluded cove. Useful snack bar variety hot food, open early morning too for breakfast and with only 50p for a cuppa I didn't need bother unpacking the kettle ☺️

    Disliked:

The field was on an incline, so had to pitch at bottom of field where there was loads of knats, so remember your insect repellent.

Local attractions

Sometimes it feels like you can barely move in this part of Wales without stumbling upon a castle – good news for history buffs or kids who can imagine themselves as knights. Within 20 minutes’ drive of the park you can hear ghost stories at Carew Castle, gaze out over the sea from one of the towers at Manorbier Castle or run around the Great Map of Wales (said to be Britain’s largest artwork) at Pembroke Castle.

Another thing that’s not in short supply round these parts is beaches. A 15-minute walk down a quiet path takes you to Waterwynch Bay, a hidden cove that’s off the radar for many visitors to the area. An hour’s walk from the site (along the splendid Pembrokeshire Coast Path) is the sandy Monkstone beach, or you can head into Saundersfoot or Tenby for further stretches of sand with plenty of facilities (including another castle, in the case of Tenby). A little further away but worth the half-hour drive is gorgeous Barafundle Bay, a frequent entrant on the list of the world’s best beaches.

If you’ve got kids in tow, there are plenty of family-friendly attractions within easy reach. Stroke lambs, milk goats and have a go on the vintage fairground rides at Folly Farm Adventure Park and Zoo, 15 minutes’ drive away, or choose from adrenaline-heavy rides and the gentler Roald Dahl-themed attractions at Oakwood Theme Park, 20 minutes away. With a 10-minute drive from the site, you can walk the Dinosaur Trail and play on the rides at the Dinosaur Park, or meet the animals at Manor Wildlife Park – highlights here include walkthrough areas where you’ll be surrounded by wallabies or lemurs.
