General

  • Large secluded camping meadow surrounded by fields and woodland
  • Acres of woodland to explore on a 30-acre smallholding
  • Plenty of friendly animals to meet including donkeys Lily and Misty

Combine adventure and comfort in this lovely camping spot: Cwm Ty Coed is on a 30-acre smallholding near Carmarthen, surrounded by both meadow and mature woodland, and with spectacular views of the surrounding area.

The owners want to create a sense of wild camping but with lots of comfort and have designed the site accordingly: all guests have access to cleanly kept toilets and gas powered showers; a well-equipped camp kitchen with two cast iron cooking rings and space to eat under shelter depending on the weather, and a big log cabin furnished with cosy sofas, a woodburning stove and a cooker.

There's plenty of space to explore by using swings or walkways in the woodland, and there's even a zipwire for those aged over eight. The site also has plenty of space to relax, especially on the hammocks provided.

The site is three miles from the busy market town of Carmarthen with a good number of shops, restaurants and cafés, as well as a cinema and local produce markets.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Cwm Ty Coed. The set up is amazing! The owner has thought of everything and couldn't do enough for us throughout our stay. Loved the yurt we stayed in, so spacious and with nice clean bedding. Also loved the showers which were boiling hot! We didn't have the best weather when we were there but that did not change how good our stay was! Another thing we loved was the outdoor cinema! Everything was great!

A lovely site with woodland surrounding. Our pitch was nice and private, only overlooked by sheep! Every evening, John brought us wood for a fire which was greatly appreciated. Impressed with how much care and work he puts into the place. He was really friendly and helpful on site and also in giving local information about the best places to visit. We feel it was the best camping experience we have had. A compost loo was a few metres away from us which was very helpful - especially if one has to ‘visit’ in the night! There is a cabin in the woods complete with table tennis and other games. All around are pretty solar lights which give a magical feel in the evening as well as helping you navigate the area. Plenty of seating in key areas and some swings for children to play on. We also tried the pizza oven twice - this was great and has inspired us to want one in our own garden! Thank you John for our holiday!

Everything!! From the moment we arrived we loved it! From our yurt, the pizza oven which the kids loved and the log cabin in the woods. We spent one night using the outdoor cinema which was lovely. The little touches made all the difference. This my first “Glamping/camping” experience but I will most definitely be back!

Absolutely beautiful setting, so peaceful and with lots of space between each pitch.
We loved the individual kitchen, washing up area and water supply for each pitch.
The owners were brilliant at communication via email and in person. They went out of their way to ensure our stay was the best it could. It is obvious from the atmosphere and attention to detail that they really care about their site.
The kids loved the swings, zip wire, little shop and slide. We were able to allow our young kids the chance to play away from our tent with other kids however we were able to see them at all times and it felt very safe.
Our daughter’s highlight was the many friendly and very well cared for animals including two collies, ponies, donkeys, chickens and ducks.
Our son’s highlight was “The Cabin” which had lots of board games, a ping pong table, table football and a place to charge electrical devices and a selection do DVDs.
My partners favourite part was the open fires each night in a chimnea or open fire pit; wood was delivered each evening by the delightful owner.
My favourite part was making homemade pizzas in the wood fired pizza oven. Yum! And the many signs around with funny and poignant sayings.
We loved it so much we booked an additional two nights on our way home and will definitely plan to stay again soon.

Directions

Approaching Carmarthen from the M4 you need to continue towards the town on the A48. About 2.5 miles before Carmarthen, there is a sign for Dyfed Powys Police Headquarters and the A48 starts to go down a long hill. At the bottom of this hill you should take the left turn.

If you are approaching the site from the west you need to take the A48 towards Swansea and take the first right turn off the dual carriageway.

Follow this road for 100m and then, on the bend, take the right turn, in the direction of Cwmffrwd. This road will take you through a farm and approximately half a mile further on you can find the track to Cwm Ty Coed on the left-hand side.

Local attractions

Cwm Ty Coed is well placed to explore the majority of attractions of west Wales. The nearest coast is five miles away and the lovely Pembrey Country Park with miles of sandy beach can be reached within 15 minutes by car.

The coast of the Gower is not far away and the many beaches of Pembrokeshire are equally close. Llansteffan has a spectacular coastal walk and you can be exploring its sandy coves within 20 minutes of leaving the site.

Brechfa Forest is very close by and has stunning walks and mountain bike tracks for all abilities. The owners can arrange discounted cycle hire for those who want to try the award-winning Millennium Coastal Path.

The area is steeped in legend too: Carmarthenshire alone has twelve castles. More recent history could draw you to the pretty village of Laugharne and Dylan Thomas’s boathouse with its views of the estuary.

For the adventurous spirit there are plenty of activities including mountain biking, horse riding, coasteering (highly recommended), sailing, kayaking and seal watching on the west coast.

With years of family life experience in the area the owners can offer plenty of firsthand advice if required.
