Kids clamouring to be king of the castle? Carmarthenshire has 12 of these historical buildings for small fry to try and commandeer. One’s over in Laugharne, 25 minutes’ drive away, a lovely village that also houses poet and writer Dylan Thomas’s boathouse with its gorgeous views over the estuary. Other parts of the coast including Pembrey Country Park, with its miles of sandy beaches, are about half an hour’s drive away. Meanwhile, Llansteffan (25 minutes) has a cracking coastal walk with coves to climb between, and many beaches along the Gower and Pembrokeshire shorelines are under an hour away.
