General

  • Stays in a large, secluded meadow surrounded by fields and woodland
  • Four miles to Carmarthen and a 30-minute drive to Pembrey Country Park
  • Candlelit cinema, kitchen, communal log cabin, zipwire and swings

Massive movie buff? Snuggle under the stars at the candlelit cinema-style setup of Cwm Ty Coed on a weekend away in west Wales… Thoughtful extras such as outdoor screenings temper the wild feel of this site on a 30-acre smallholding, amid a meadow and mature woodland and with spectacular views of the surrounding area.

Other ace amenities at this park in Carmarthenshire include a communal log cabin with sofas, games and a woodburning stove for spending quality time together as a family. There's also a kitchen with two cast-iron cooking rings, as well as room to eat under shelter (firepits are around the grounds as well if you’d rather feast outdoors).

While you hunker down in a hammock for an after-dinner snooze, send the younger members of your group off to say hello to friendly farm animals (including donkeys Lily and Misty) or into the woods to launch themselves onto the zipwire (for ages 8 and over) and swings. Acres’ worth of walks are also among the trees for trotting on pretty trails and the site’s four miles from the thriving market town of Carmarthen with its shops, restaurants and cafés if you’re wanting to wander around the produce markets.

For trips of a less practical nature, also around the local area are activities including mountain biking and horse riding, while coasteering, sailing, kayaking and seal spotting on the coast are around 30 minutes’ drive away.

Take the mutt with you to mosey around the local area if you like – well-behaved dogs are allowed to come along on a hol at Cwm Ty Coed. Other facilities at this site include well-kept compost toilets, gas-powered showers and barbecues.

A little spot of fun and luxury in the Welsh countryside10/03/2019

We have loved our stay at Cwm Ty Coed, so much so that this is our second stay, we love how much there is to do and explore for kids of all ages even on the wettest days. The little details and the fact they the hosts have thought of everything you may need make it a little bit of luxury in the middle of the countryside.
We are even converts of the composting loos!
The pizza oven is a big plus for a delicious hot meal and fun to involve the kids in making the pizzas.
The hosts are lovely and nothing is too much trouble.

We stayed in our camper van and stupidly forgot to bring our bedding but the owner very kindly lent us some so that saved the day! It was a beautiful place, really peaceful. The camp kitchen was fantastic I wish more campsites could provide this sort of facility. We loved having a camp fire every night with the free wood that was delivered to our pitch every day

    Disliked:

The two camper van pitches are not in the main field (as this is kept vehicle free). We did not realise this until we got there and personally we would have preferred to be have been in the main field. However this was just a negative for us, it may be a positive for others as it was more private.

Small site with limited occupancy so didn't feel like you were on top of each other. Tent was spacious for our group of 5 with really comfy beds. The kitchen area was a brilliant addition and well stocked with everything we needed. Every night the owner delivered logs for the camp fire which the kids loved! Own water supply so no trudging half way round the site everytime you want a cuppa 👍 showers very hot and with so few guests you never had to wait long. We were very fortunate with the weather (plus clear nights so we were able to see the stars) but the cabin in the woods is a great space for the kids if the weather was poor.

Excellent place to first experience a yurt08/12/2019

The zip wire, badminton rackets and net were great for the kids. The yurt was absolutely waterproof in the heavy rain and very high winds, it was warm enough and the beds were warm. There was more wood supplied than we could burn. John was friendly and dealt with a blockage in the compost loo quickly. If we had stayed longer we would have checked out the woodland walk. Overall, I think this is a great place to first experience a yurt.

    Disliked:

The light in the compost loo flashed on and off repeatedly, which made using the toilet at night difficult. There wasn't enough flour for us to make dough, and I couldn't find the yeast.

From the manager...

What a shame that we did not know that you were looking for flour and yeast. We are always available to answer queries and replenish supplies and offer a contact number/email address to everyone in case you don’t catch us in person on our frequent visits to the meadow. We buy sacks of special pizza flour and always have plenty to refill the containers in the pizza kitchen.

Solar lights did struggle on this wet and windy weekend - we would have replaced the batteries if we had known the light was flickering. Tell us problems like this, we are never offended and like to sort them out in a timely manner DURING your stay.

We originally booked a woodland pitch for our tent but at the owner's suggestion, upgraded to a tipi when I fractured my ankle a few days before our holiday. The tipi itself was gorgeous! So beautifully kitted out with fairy lights, flowers and sheepskins and with super comfy beds. Each pitch has it's own camp kitchen which is fully equipped with a gas cooker, crockery, cutlery, cooking utensils and a cooler box. We had a covered and outside picnic table, our own bbq and a fire pit surrounded by logs. At night the campsite was lit by solar powered lights and was just so lovely. The kids went feral and we barely saw them as they were off charging around the forest in a big pack with all the other children. At night they went up to the cabin in the woods to watch films in the outdoor cinema. The showers were hot, the toilets were clean, and we loved the farm dogs who came to visit with the John each day. He was always happy to have a big chat and gave us excellent tips on where to visit each day. We just loved everything about this site.

Local attractions

Kids clamouring to be king of the castle? Carmarthenshire has 12 of these historical buildings for small fry to try and commandeer. One’s over in Laugharne, 25 minutes’ drive away, a lovely village that also houses poet and writer Dylan Thomas’s boathouse with its gorgeous views over the estuary.

Other parts of the coast including Pembrey Country Park, with its miles of sandy beaches, are about half an hour’s drive away. Meanwhile, Llansteffan (25 minutes) has a cracking coastal walk with coves to climb between, and many beaches along the Gower and Pembrokeshire shorelines are under an hour away.

If that sounds too sedate for your thrill-seeking needs, embrace adrenaline-spiking adventures among the trees on Brechfa Forest’s mountain bike trails, half an hour north-east of the park – ask Cwm Ty Coed staff about the chances of sorting out some discounted cycle hire for freewheeling along the Millennium Coastal Path too...
