  • Peaceful dog-friendly site with views of Eryri (Snowdonia)
  • On the banks of the river Gwyrfai; a 10 minute-drive from Caernarfon
  • Walking routes directly from the site; playground and games room
Adventurous types, unite, and make your way to Bryn Gloch Caravan and Camping. This is the type of place where holidaymakers can hike all day long, and it's peaceful too, on the banks of the river Gwyrfai with views of the Eryri (Snowdonia) mountain range and the north Wales countryside. There are walking routes directly from the site, good news for those with dogs or a lust for adventure. One of the UK’s longest heritage railways, the Ffestiniog & Welsh Highland Railways passes through the site on its 25-mile journey past the foot of Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon). You might want to board it yourself Caernarfon (10 minutes’ drive) and see if you can spot your patch of land as you pass by. That’s after you’ve experienced one of the boat trips that run along the Menai Strait from the quayside below Caernarfon Castle, of course. There’s a very generous serving of facilities at Bryn Gloch Caravan and Camping Park, from heated bathrooms and wifi to playgrounds and a games room. The pitches are spacious, giving you plenty of opportunities to soak in the scenery.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked: Peaceful site, well maintained toilets/showers/washing up area. Bonus playground. Easy to navigate site with good roads. The staff inside the reception were very friendly and informative.

Disliked: The midges! And it was abit of a trek to the toilets

Liked: The location of the camp site was amazing - 5 minute drive to a car park to climb Snowdon, and close to Caernarfon and other amenities around north Wales. The staff here were all very friendly and knowledgeable/ helpful!

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked: The setting was idyllic and the shower/toilet facilities were convenient and well kept. The staff were friendly and helpful. The tent plot ground was good (not too bumpy) and the cafe/shop on site were a nice touch. It's obviously a lot of care has gone into making the site.

Disliked: I disliked hardly anything. The tent plots are located next to a river, which means the customers that are most affected by midges etc (tent users) are located closest to this. I thought this wasnt ideal. If I had to comment I suppose I could say the communal games in the TV room were all damaged, so mostly useless.

Tryfan 3 bedroom static caravan

Liked: The first thing that hits you as you drive in to the camp site is the stunning scenery surrounding the beautifully maintained grounds of this exceptional, friendly, family run site. Lots for the little ones to do, climbing frames, swings, games room. Our caravan had everything you would need and more, it was spotlessly clean and comfortable. There’s a choice of supermarkets in Caernarfon to stock up on supplies. If you’re looking for a relaxing, tranquil stay or an energetic climbing/walking holiday this place has it all. We had a day trip to Trearddur Bay on Anglesey which took us about 40 minutes in the car. We also went to Porthmadog enjoying the incredible scenery through Bedgellert. Bedgellert is only 7 miles down the road but the drive is something else. We may have had to leave Bryn Gloch to return home but we will cherish the memories made forever. I have a feeling we will be back for more memory making. I highly recommend this site, whether you’re caravaning or tenting you will not be disappointed. The tent pitches were well spaced out and had everything you would need. Beautiful walks for your four legged friends too, oh and there’s a shop on site. Thanks Bryn Gloch for an amazing holiday experience.

Disliked: Nothing.

Fully-serviced hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: The pitch was level and large enough for our needs (a swb camper) and well-serviced with water and EHU. The facilities were generally well-kept too. Staff were really helpful and friendly. Excellent location for walking up Snowdon via the quieter Rangers Path. Though I’d recommend getting the Sherpa bus there rather than the 45 minute walk. If you’re driving, you may find somewhere to park but I didn’t notice anywhere useful for that.

Disliked: One of the taps in the washing area is a bit aggressive. As they’re all push-taps you can’t control the flow and it just sprays water everywhere but the others seemed fine. The grass next to the pitch seemed a bit shallow before reaching stone so I struggled with getting some of our pins in for the awning but still not a massive issue.

Adventurous types can tackle the fastest zipwire in the world at Zip World Penrhyn Quarry (half an hour). With underground trampolines based in slate caverns, you’re likely to work up a sweat. GreenWood Family Park (20 minutes) has traditional rides, including family-friendly rollercoasters. Where next? Perhaps Caernarfon Airport (25 minutes), where there’s an aviation museum and pleasure flights along the Menai Strait and around Snowdon? Portmeirion (35 minutes), an Italianate village featured on the telly? Or Llanberis (20 minutes), where the mountain railway departs? Llanberis is close to the National Slate Museum (20 minutes), which has the largest working water wheel in Britain.
