  • Peaceful dog-friendly site with views of Eryri (Snowdonia)
  • On the banks of the river Gwyrfai; a 10 minute-drive from Caernarfon
  • Walking routes directly from the site; playground and games room
Adventurous types, unite, and make your way to Bryn Gloch Caravan and Camping Park. This is the type of place where holidaymakers can hike all day long, and it's peaceful too, on the banks of the river Gwyrfai with views of the Eryri (Snowdonia) mountains and the north Wales countryside. There are walking routes directly from the site – good news for those with dogs or a lust for adventure. One of the UK’s longest heritage railways, the Ffestiniog & Welsh Highland Railways, passes through the site on its 25-mile journey past the foot of Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon). You might want to board it yourself Caernarfon (10 minutes’ drive) and see if you can spot your patch of land as you pass by. That’s after you’ve experienced one of the boat trips that run along the Menai Strait from the quayside below Caernarfon Castle, of course. There’s a very generous serving of facilities at Bryn Gloch Caravan and Camping Park, from heated bathrooms and wifi to playgrounds and a games room. The pitches are spacious, giving you plenty of opportunities to soak in the scenery.

Powered cement/asphalt travel trailer campsite

Liked The very warm and friendly welcome and consistent warmth and friendlyness throughout our stay.

The scenery and athmosphere

Ease of access to the walks and the wonderful opportunities to cycle.

The cleanliness of the site and the toilets, showers and camp kitchens.

Disliked No fault of the site but there appears to be a kennels close by or someone with a lot of dogs which bark during the night.

Powered grass campsite

Liked The facilities were excellent. We had trouble with our tent on the first day, and a member of staff went out of his way to come and check on us, recommend places where we could replace the tent and assist us where needed. The site is very close to the start of the Snowden Ranger track if you plan to walk up Snowden. We found this track much better than the more popular and crowded Llanberis track.

Powered grass campsite

Liked Loved the campsite and the views are amazing! Food trailer was nice but too pricey for the amount of food received. Overall good stay.

Disliked Food trailer too expensive for the small portions but very tasty and freshly cooked.

Bring your own wood as the one they're selling is not seasoned/not dry and doesn't burn very well if you like campfires.

At the end didn't feel welcome as my friends was told off for being a little bit late leaving the pitch which fair enough it's their rules but it shouldn't have happened as it was short time. Send we stayed few days longer and it wasn't like someone was coming straight after in the sent pitch. Didn't make us feel welcome to book again in the future.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked I loved the place and its surroundings. The views and the location of the campsite were wonderful. My daughter made friends as soon as we arrived and spent the weekend happily.

Disliked I thought there were too few toilets and showers for the number of people there. The campsite was fully booked, and in the area where we were, there were only four toilets.

Local attractions

Legend says Gelert, a hound belonging to a Welsh prince, is buried in Beddgelert (15 minutes’ drive). Visit the grave, take in the views from the Aberglaslyn Pass (15 minutes) and then visit the Sygun Copper Mine (20 minutes) to learn more about the conditions in 19th-century mines. Adventurous types can tackle the fastest zipwire in the world at Zip World Penrhyn Quarry (half an hour). With underground trampolines based in slate caverns, you’re likely to work up a sweat. GreenWood Family Park (20 minutes) has traditional rides, including family-friendly rollercoasters. Where next? Perhaps Caernarfon Airport (25 minutes), where there’s an aviation museum and pleasure flights along the Menai Strait and around Snowdon? Portmeirion (35 minutes), an Italianate village featured on the telly? Or Llanberis (20 minutes), where the mountain railway departs? Llanberis is close to the National Slate Museum (20 minutes), which has the largest working water wheel in Britain.
