  • Rural and back to nature site in southern Snowdonia
  • Spectacular views of the Dovey Estuary and the hills of mid-Wales
  • Near Cader Idris and the golden beaches of Aberdovey and Borth/Ynyslas
Sitting pretty at the southernmost point of Snowdonia National Park, there’s really s’no escaping the back-to-nature goodness of Gwerniago Campsite, also a working farm. Whether you want a splendid location, a cracking pub or a good old-fashioned field where you can light your own off-ground campfire (and buy the wood you need on site too), pitching up at Gwerniago will tick plenty of boxes. Cycling, river walks and an array of outdoorsy activities are around the Dyfi Valley, but the real winners here are the youngsters (although big kids should enjoy getting stuck in just as much): from scoring goals in the playing field's football goal to the wooded play area complete with tree swing, this place is fit for any little explorer. Strollers and avid hikers alike will be in their element at these rural digs, as will twitchers; the farm is close to the RSPB’s Ynyshir reserve, home of the BBC’s Springwatch in past years. Grab your binoculars to spot red kites overhead and keep a beady eye out for the Dyfi osprey nest which you can spy from the site. As well as the clean and modern facilities on site, which include a shower and toilet block with solar-provided hot water (backed up by electric), new wooden footboards and nifty timed lighting as per the site’s eco-friendly policies, other touches added by the Welsh-speaking farming family owners include free access to a small kitchen with a fridge freezer, washing-up sinks and a phone charger point. Laundry facilities are also available. The farm is within walking distance of Pennal village.

This is a clean, well-maintained campsite with beautiful views, praised for its friendly owners and peaceful atmosphere. Facilities, including toilets and showers, are consistently described as good and clean, with hot water. Pitches are generally spacious, many featuring picnic tables. Liked The views
Good recycling
Toilets were old but clean

Disliked The WiFi is almost non-existent
Some of the pitches are quite uneven (I know it’s Wales so to be expected!)
Our drainage site on the fully serviced pitch was a very long way away and unusable

Fully-serviced hardstanding touring pitch

Liked We had the pitch that you can see on their header. Great views down the valley but this pitch is not as big as some others. Overall the pitches are of a generous size and the ones we could see all had their own picnic table, as well as being fully serviced pitches. Toilets and showers were clean.
We did not have children but we could see that they really enjoyed the play area.
The owners could not have been more helpful.

Disliked There seemed to be a lot of seasonal ( empty ) caravans around us. May be busier at the weekend.
The CV on the pitch next to us arrived at 10.30 one night. Need to impose a time limit on late arrivals.

Fully-serviced hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Delightful little site situated in the lovely mid welsh mountains.
Our pitch (5) was awesome, very flat spacious and literally opposite the amenities.
Nice and quiet too.
We had no issues using the showers and they were clean and hot everytime.
Views are amazing, the Solar Eclipse was brilliant to watch from the site.
Bird watching great, you can see the Osprey nest from the site.
Some good attractions within driving distance, for example, King Arthur's Labyrinth, The Osprey Project,RSPB Wildlife centre,Dyfi Bike Park and Dyfi Furnace.
All in all no problem.
We spent 10 days here in our little caravan "Nora".
Would recommend
Thank you 😊

Fully-serviced hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Friendley welcome on arrival, spacious pitch, clean toilets and showers and great views on a quiet site close to shops and the local village.

Disliked Only problem we had was that the pitch was on a slope so to get the caravan level we had to move further away from the tap and waste point so could not use the grey wast as our pipes were not long enough but it didnt impact our stay so pitch 9 could do with leveling out a bit more.

Fully-serviced hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Our pitch had a beautiful view. We had plenty of space and our own tap and drain as well as a hook-up.The toilets and showers were clean but the water was cold when we tried to shower. Wi-Fi connected only on our second day when the site was less busy. There is a path from the site to the river and a very pretty walk along the riverside.

Disliked Cold water. Poor Wi-Fi signal when busy.

Fully-serviced hardstanding touring pitch

Liked A lovely neat site, very accommodating as we were originally going in a motorhome which broke down prior to our holiday. They found us a lovely grass pitch and lent us electric extension lead. They couldn't have helped us enough.

Disliked Nothing, everything was great.

Local attractions

Four miles to the east is Machynlleth for the local street market on Wednesdays and getting techy at the Centre for Alternative Technology (CAT); it's also home to a comedy festival in the spring. Aberystwyth is about a 40-minute drive south for shops, restaurants and nights out. If you’d rather escape the towns, explore the award-winning beaches and harbours (15 minutes' drive) for fishing and strolling. The Aberdyfi estuary’s beaches and sand dunes are some of the best kept in the country, and for those who fancy a round (of golf, that is), the area is also home to an award-winning golf course. For kitesurfers and boarders, beaches at Tywyn, Borth and Fairbourne (the furthest of which is 10 miles away) should offer some exciting sporting opportunities, with some even offering tuition. Back on dry land, the Dyfi Bike Park (10 minutes) is known as one of the best mountain bike locations in all the land. If you prefer more laidback days out, take a trip to Talyllyn’s steam railway (around eight miles away) or travel from Aberystwyth to Devil’s Bridge on the Vale of Rheidol steam railway line.
