Brecon Beacons Bell Tents: Camp (photo added by manager on 18/10/2022)

General

  • Dog-friendly site on the bank of the river Grwyne
  • Footpaths to the Black Mountains; 25 minutes’ drive to Llangorse Lake
  • Two miles of fishing on site; barbecue, firepit and outdoor kitchen

Sink your teeth into the Black Mountains from Brecon Beacons Bell Tents… this scenic site is on the bank of the river Grwyne in the national park, so mornings could look like a bacon sandwich and brew by the riverside or fishing along the two-mile stretch.

It’s remote here with the river, woodlands and meadows, but there’s a barbecue and firepit with a well-stocked woodpile to keep the evenings lively enough and a public footpath that leads to summits in the Black Mountains or the Grwyne Valley.

When you’re after a cuppa post-hike, just slide into the covered kitchen outdoors, where there’s a gas cooker and electric coolbox. The tent has a hot shower and toilet, a double bed with a memory foam mattress, a double futon and a tent stove.

Perhaps follow the riverbank down to Llangenny village (15 minutes’ walk), where there’s a country pub with fine ales and good grub, or venture to Crickhowell (five minutes’ drive) for pubs, cafés, independent shops and a butchers… or Abergavenny (15 minutes) for that, and markets too. Otherwise, places deliver food locally – the site will bring it to you upon arrival.

There’s parking by the site for those with four-wheel drives and another car park a short walk away (get a lift in the tractor if you have lots of luggage).

Please note

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro) and/or any of the following: Staffordshire bull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier, Rottweiler, any Mastiff or Tosa.

No cars/motorbikes by the pitch/unit. All cars must be parked in the designated area.

At least one of the party members must be aged 21 or over.

Guests are advised to bring a good quality torch with them as parts of the site are unlit.

Wonderful place despite the weather. Minimal reception, so phones used for essential stuff only - checking the weather forecast.😀😀🤞.
Comfy bed, huge tent, well equipped kitchen, only needed sharp knives for cooking, but I take mine when we go away anyway.
The dogs loved it, the private field is almost fully enclosed so no need to worry about them. Only possibility of escape is under the gate at the far end unless you have a strong swimmer then maybe up the opposite bank.
Firepit was great, we cooked on it as well as sat round it at night.
Glad we had a 4WD car as we would had to leave the car at the top. The monsoon conditions did not help.

    Disliked:

The style out of the field and the one on the other side of the foot bridge are not dog friendly. Always a bit of a pain with big dogs.
They both needed lifting over, not something they are happy with.

This is a beautiful and secluded site next to a lovely little river where you are surrounded by trees and wildlife - we saw bats, birds of prey, ducks, hundreds of butterflys and heard owls at night. The facilities were very comfortable and make for a very easy stay. Marc and family have literally thought of everything. Cooking over the firepit and sitting by it in the evening was a definite highlight. It is out in the open though so can't be used in wet weather. There is a stove in the outdoor kitchen too but if we went again we would probably take our portable BBQ which has a lid incase the weather is wet. There was no wifi or phone signal but we didn't see that as a bad thing. Nice walk to local pub. Would definitely recommended.

Beautiful location, completely private, excellently and thoughtfully kitted out with everything you could need for your stay; even down to the little details. loved cooking over the fire pit next to the river and falling asleep to the sound of gentle water, even braved a little dip! The kids enjoyed a little bit of fishing (even though they didn't catch anything). Being in a dark skies area the stars where phenomenal. The tent was kept lovely and warm with the log burner and there was enough wood supplied to see us through the weekend, the shower was hot and refreshing and the compost toilet eco friendly. Will definitely return!

We enjoyed our stay overall. Tent is comfortable, with good facilities and the site is completely private. Shower was hot and toilet more than adequate. The pub along the river was the perfect distance with a lovely welcome and meal.

    Disliked:

The walk down from the parking space was muddy and steep, fine for us but maybe not for others. It feels more like wild camping with the surroundings, upkept and the river was very noisy whilst sleeping as it had rained alot in the days previous. Fresh coffee and sugar would have been nice as there wasn't much left and the sugar was well used.

The site was lovely and private, buy Marc and family shared contact details nice and early to ensure we always knew help was on hand. I really appreciated that Marc took the time to message us early to inform us that the tent was ready early (which worked great for us travelling from Kent).
The site facilities were great, but most notably the kitchen shelter and warm bedding in the tent were fabulous, lifelines when staying out of doors in such colder months.
We even managed to sight some birds of prey nesting nearby!
