New Clubhouse Patio Decking

General

  • Family run for over 40 years, two miles from the beach at New Quay
  • Fishing lake surrounded by acres of peaceful space
  • Pool, play areas, arcade, kids' club and clubhouse with two bars

Want to pitch up in splendid New Quay on the Ceredigion coast, former home of Dylan Thomas and 20 minutes’ drive from rubbernecking at the bottlenose dolphins of Cardigan Bay? Pitch up at Pencnwc Holiday Park.

It’s less than two miles from New Quay’s safe beaches and harbour walls, five miles from the sands at Ceredigion and 20 from the university town of Aberystwyth; Cardigan is the same distance to the south. The site has been family-run for over 40 years so it knows what’s what in making sure it has a stonking amount to do on site for guests of all sizes and inclinations.

After your warm Welsh welcome at reception, let the small sorts roam: they can take their pick from two on-site play areas, an amusingly big amusement arcade, splashing around in the heated indoor pool with adjacent paddling pool, or getting crafty making art, jewellery, sport and games at the free kids’ club. The entertainment runs into the evening in Merlyn’s Den, one of the two bars in the clubhouse, and is suitable for all sizes.

Seeking a slightly more sedate or grownup time? Hide yourself away in Pencnwc’s second pub Smugglers Bar for a coffee, newspaper or catching up with what’s happening in the world of sport on the bar’s numerous tellies; fish and chips, pies and other seaside snacks available from the Smugglers takeaway can be taken into the entertainment bar and the Smugglers bar serves sit-down meals. Or take munchies to the on-site fishing lake, where acres of space abound for quiet contemplation (and no-one nicking your chips).

Small sorts probably won’t be too fussed about the on-site facilities, but grownups should be chuffed with the amenities on offer including loo and shower blocks with free hot water, a modern launderette and a washing-up area all kept in sparkingly good order among the flowers, shrubbery and well-maintained grounds.

There’s no food shop on site, but you’ll find two at the nearby village of Cross Inn, a few minutes’ walk away.

Please note

Adults and children over 4: access to the swimming pool is not included in the rate and is charged £0.50 per person per session.

The site caters for families (immediate members) and couples only - bookings from all other forms of groups are not accepted.

Tents are not accepted at this park.

Continental touring caravans (caravans built with the door on the right-hand side) are not permitted.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act.

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work-related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

Large immaculately kept site, sectional areas for statics and tourers, well manicured grounds, spotlessly clean facilities, good located and well maintained hookups and services, well illuminated night lights, friendly welcoming and informative staff, food and amenities available on site. Out of season was great for us but would immagine very busy in high season, so great for families and livelier couples/parties, would revisit out of season again most definitely. just the ticket.

    Disliked:

Free wifi - but sadly not on touring pitches.

We liked the site very clean and well kept bar food very good but the only thing that being you are a 5* site that there is no shop for bread milk etc which on all 5* sites I have stayed at have a shop for essentials bits and bobs. I have stayed there twice but I think it will be the last time I stay it is not very good that you have to drive to get a morning paper /milk/ bread etc . And would have been nice to have WiFi at your caravan.instead of just in the bar area . Every place we have stopped at 5*sites have it all. Over not only in bar .we like to chill out at our caravan with our iPads or phones not have to go and sit in a bar to get what we want to do on our phones or iPads

    Disliked:

Not having a shop for grocery shopping and no WiFi for when to relax .not having to go and sit in a bar to get it

Family friendly site with a community feel. Site was clean and well maintained. Shower and toilet facilities for the touring field was better than most sites we've stayed at.

We found all staff friendly and the kids entertainment well pitched for the age ranges on the park. Food in the on-site pub was very good value for money.

There is no on-site convenience shop but there is a well stocked village store a 5 mins walk from the site.

    Disliked:

Card payments are only at the bar and reception. Takeaway counter and entertainment room bar are cash only. I think that's changing soon but not there yet.

Local attractions

The traditional fishing village of New Quay, two miles away, is, of course, a fine place for fishing – such boat trips bob out from the harbour here, as do dolphin-spotting outings. There's a fine population of the marine mammals nearby but for a cast-iron guarantee of wildlife sightings you may like to drop in at the town's Cardigan Bay Marine Wildlife Centre.

The market town of Cardigan (a hub for active pursuits) and the university town of Aberystwyth are both 20 miles away. Top local beaches are at Aberaeron (15 minutes' drive), and Llangrannog (20 minutes).

Must see

  • Llanerchaeron - National Trust (5.7 miles)

  • Vale of Rheidol Railway (Aberystwyth) (19.2 miles)
