Sandyhills Bay Holiday Park: Direct access from the park

General

  • Secluded seaside family park
  • Direct access to a spectacular sandy beach
  • Shop, takeaway, picnic and outdoor play area

What a secluded and sandy Scottish sojourn can be had at Sandyhills Bay Holiday Park: it's by the sea with smashing views over the bay and has direct access to a beaut beach.

And it's in lush locale for foresty and nature walks too, as it's close to the RSPB reserve at Mersehead and the walking trails and wildlife of Dalbeattie Forest. More? Sandyhills is also near the yachting village of Kippford and shooting down slopes on the world-famed 7stanes mountain bike trails, and has an 18-hole golf course, riding centre and an indoor swimming pool with restaurant all a short walk away.

The Sandyhills Bay facilities are kept to excellent standards and include a modern heated toilet and shower block, a launderette, covered washing-up sinks and a play area splendidly set beside the sand dunes. A well-stocked shop is next to reception along with a beach takeaway and picnic tables. Wardens are on site if you need any help or info during your stay.

And yet more evidence of Sandyhills Bay's lush locale? The spectacular coastal walk to Rockcliffe, shown on More 4's Walks with my Dog programme, starts from the park.

Nothing at all to do on site, we arrived at 5.30 it said check in up to 6 o clock. There was nobody there we saw a cleaner who let us in she was very nice. We pitched up only to have someone come later to ask who said we could pitch there, and had we payed he was apparently the warden with 2 unfriendly dogs and when we explained why we were there he said we had to move as he was getting a caravan put in that area which never happened the 2 days we were there, and the excuse for us been unable to check in and nobody was there was he hadn’t had a day of for 6 days.

A quiet, peaceful site with fabulous beach and woodland walks. Level pitch with hook-up, we also erected and awning and took our dogs. WC/Shower/Laundry facilities spotless and site extremely well maintained with seasonal planting.
Little shop by entrance is good and in Colvend village there's a Londis.
Pretty drives out to Dalbeattie, Castle Douglas and beyond and a beautiful beach at Rockcliffe too.
Loved it and we'll make a return visit sometime.
