Direct access from the park

General

  • Secluded seaside family park
  • Direct access to a spectacular sandy beach
  • Shop, takeaway, picnic and outdoor play area

What a secluded and sandy Scottish sojourn can be had at Sandyhills Bay Holiday Park: it's by the sea with smashing views over the bay and has direct access to a beaut beach.

And it's in lush locale for foresty and nature walks too, as it's close to the RSPB reserve at Mersehead and the walking trails and wildlife of Dalbeattie Forest. More? Sandyhills is also near the yachting village of Kippford and shooting down slopes on the world-famed 7stanes mountain bike trails, and has an 18-hole golf course, riding centre and an indoor swimming pool with restaurant all a short walk away.

The Sandyhills Bay facilities are kept to excellent standards and include a modern heated toilet and shower block, a launderette, covered washing-up sinks and a play area splendidly set beside the sand dunes. A well-stocked shop is next to reception along with a beach takeaway and picnic tables. Wardens are on site if you need any help or info during your stay.

And yet more evidence of Sandyhills Bay's lush locale? The spectacular coastal walk to Rockcliffe, shown on More 4's Walks with my Dog programme, starts from the park.

We practically had the entire village to ourselves. We were the only tent pitched. The staff is helpful and friendly and the facilities are always spotless. Despite it being Scotland in October a small tent heater took the chill out in the evenings and mornings.

    Disliked:

The fact we had to leave a day early because of the weather forecast. We’ve been before and will go again.

Didn't bother me but there are only 2 showers in the women and men's toilet block. We were the only campers so was fine, but I can imagine being a bit of a pain in peak season time. Also WiFi was poor, again this didn't bother us.

    Great coastal location

    Disliked:

Basic and very dated facilities. Only 4 showers in total for entire campsite. No grey water disposal point for Motorhomes. Motor home pitches very close together and no view as encircled by statics. Camping pitches had an excellent outlook though.

Great views, well kept, lots to do with being able to use the site next door as well and so peaceful all the time. Great first place for our first get away in our caravan. Will definitely be coming back.

Where to start? The staff were excellent and friendly and bent over backwards to accommodate us. It was a wedding anniversary stay and they allowed us the pick of the site to help make it more memorable. The site itself, absolutely lovely views and excellent location. Very peaceful, clean and tidy and everyone staying on site were friendly and welcoming - we were made to feel at home by one and all. We took the family pet dog who relished the opportunity of the beach (literally on your doorstep), the sea (obviously just as accessible) and the river (running into the sea on site). He was in heaven and easily tired out. I can't recommend this site enough. Had initially booked four days, but enjoyed it so much we added an extra day - would have been more but had to get back home.
