The Wee Caravan Park: Edith the alpaca

General

  • Quiet dog-friendly site surrounded by the Ayrshire countryside
  • A 40-minute drive from Ayr beach; 45 minutes from Loch Bradan
  • Alpaca trekking; log and kindling available; free metal detector

Away to Ayrshire for hiking-ready countryside, lochs and clear skies? Then, you’ll want to ‘alpaca’ your bags for The Wee Caravan Park, a quiet dog-friendly site in the Ayrshire countryside with an alpaca herd on site. From here, you’ll be well-based to break into the Burns country, just outside New Cumnock with Ayr beach 40 minutes’ drive away and Loch Bradan 45 minutes’ drive away.

Where will you planting your roots? Well, the pitches are part of an area of land fenced off from Laneburn with alpacas in the adjacent field and alpaca trekking and meet and greet activities run on site. There’s fresh water provided and log and kindling upon request, as both barbecues and firepits are allowed.

Dogs are welcome on a lead and children too (leadless, of course) so you won’t need to leave anyone behind. Handily, there are lots of top spots for a picnic on site, hilly footpaths nearby and a free metal detector available on site so you can pack your day full of activities.

While things are peaceful around the site, there’s a little buzz down in New Cumnock. The town, five minutes’ drive away, has a food shop, Chinese and Indian takeaways (deliveries available to the site), a chemist, petrol station, outdoor swimming pool and bakery, so you won’t have too hard a task finding your essentials.

Please note

This site has no on-site toilet and shower facilities.

This campsite is in a beautiful and quiet location. The owners couldn’t do enough for their guests. The neighbours were entertaining - alpacas who were adorable and loved our dogs from a distance and the young ones chasing each other around were very cute. Would visit again. Along with a fire pit the owners also supplied fire wood.

Not a dislike as such, it would just have been a bonus to be able to empty the loo cassette before leaving as it was pretty full after 4 days 😆

A very basic but lovely campsite. The views are lovely and the hosts are so welcoming. Our pitch had a picnic table and a fire pit. Our Motorhome is fully self sufficient so we didn’t need any facilities but could only stay a couple of nights as after that we would need to empty our cassette toilet. There were just me and another van there on the first night and 3 on the second night. I believe it can accommodate 5. I’m with EE and the signal was ok so could get internet from my 4g but I believe O2 is better. My son got to feed the alpacas and loved it. Will definitely return for another weekend. Met 2 other lovely families.
