Pitches among the trees

General

  • Peaceful five-acre site in rural Aberdeenshire
  • A 20-minute drive from Banff; 45 minutes from Aberdeen
  • Direct access to the North Sea Cycle Route; wifi and shared kitchen

East Balthangie Caravan Park is located deep in rural Aberdeenshire, close to top coastal spots like Banff and Buchan. This site is also well connected: central Aberdeen can be reached in about 45 minutes, while those bringing their bikes can get straight to the seaside pedalling, as there's direct access to the scenic North Sea Cycle Route.

The folk here say that their aim is to recreate what outdoor hols were like in the 1950s: as such, what you see is what you get (the only additional charges are for extras like use of machines in the laundry room). This is very much a 'live and let live' kind of place, where guests have plenty of room to pitch up in stunning Scottish surrounds and take in the peace and quiet.

The facilities here are simple and well-maintained and include ladies' and gents' toilets, a laundry room with washers and dryers, power showers, a handy communal kitchen and wifi around reception. Dogs are welcome here (but please keep them on a lead except when in the dedicated dog-walking area).

East Balthangie Caravan Park is well set up for outdoor living: picnic tables have been strategically placed in some of the best spots for alfresco lunches. Crop growth allowing, you're also free to take strolls on the paths that crisscross the adjacent farmland.

The nearest supermarket is in Cuminestown (10 minutes' drive). For a drink or pub-cooked meal, head into New Deer (10 minutes).

Please note

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

The games room is closed due to restrictions imposed by the coronavirus outbreak.

The toilet facilities are closed until 15/07/2020. Guests will need to use their own facilities.

The shower facilities are closed until 15/07/2020. Guests will need to use their own facilities.

Thank you for your review and kind comments. Obviously we're disappointed you rated us 8/10 and not 10/10! :) We do strive for perfection!
What does worry us is the 3/5 rating for cleanliness. This is a concern, as we clean and disinfect the toilets and shower areas 4 times daily and more as needed, with overnight fogging to ensure the toilet and shower block is kept spotless, and Covid free. The products we use are commercial grade, manufactured by our sister company, Windowbox Limited, and are sold under various brands, to retailers and consumers widely.
We will, of course, try harder to meet thge exacting standards you expect, and look forward to welcoming you again to Planet Balthangie at some point in the not too distant future. kind regards J&A

Thank you for your very kind words and positive review! It's always good to hear we're getting it right for our visitors and we look forward to seeing you again sometime in the future maybe?
We may also have finished our world war one Flying Pavilion restoration by then! the image you have posted (for others info) is the new larch posts and braces we put in place several weeks ago and which are now seasoning off in-situ. We will be fitting the balustrades shortly then painting it all before the Winter. The new roof we fitted back in March, so we're well on the way to making it our games room again and also a holiday let. It is a grade 3 listed building now so we're doing our best to give it some TLC!

    Temperamental hot water in morning!

From the manager...

Thank you for your lovely review- it is much appreciated.
Yes, our plumber is on the case of installing new systems shortly to offer a more robust water system. During your stay, we had two slight problems when in one shower, the controls were accidentally broken and left on all night with the power shower pump draining both hot and cold water tanks, followed by another instance where a hot tap was left on all night that did more or less the same. Both happened after our final 11 pm toilet block check, so the faults were not discovered until morning... Hopefully, our planned tweaks to the system will prevent this in the future! We're also building one new self-contained bathroom for visitors too. See you again soon!

Road leading to site needs repaired

From the manager...

Thank you for your lovely review.
Yes, the main road in, is in need of repair. Unfortunately, our tarmac man has been unable to visit earlier this year as usual, because of the Covid restrictions, but we're on the case now, and hopefully, it will be in good shape for your next visit! We're also in negotiations with the council to see if we can get the whole road resurfaced, but either way, we will make sure it has fewer potholes next trip. See you soon!
