View of the site from the Tor

General

  • Small and friendly site at the foot of Glastonbury Tor
  • Five minutes’ drive from Glastonbury and 15 minutes from Wells
  • Shared basic kitchen for guests, underfloor heating in shower block

Park up for soothing hols at Glastonbury Camping and Caravanning, a small family-friendly site five minutes’ drive from Glastonbury in Somerset.

The site’s particularly well placed for countryside jaunts. It’s a peaceful 25-minute ramble from the site into Glastonbury, where hikes along the famed Monarch’s Way as far as Wells start. If that’s too lengthy, opt instead for clambering up Glastonbury Tor – it’s less than 15 minutes’ walk to the base, then a relatively easy climb to the views of Somerset Levels at the top.

Take explores further afield with wanders into the pretty Mendip Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty where the oh-so-scenic Cheddar Gorge is already posing for photos and diving below the surface is a must at Wookey Hole caves.

No need to trek even that far for lovely vistas either. Views of Glasto Tor and Somerset Levels can be had right from the pitches, making evenings spent unwinding a proper visual treat. Settle in with a homecooked meal – prepared in the basic shared guest kitchen, with fridge-freezer, microwave and kettle – then wash off the dirt of the day in the toasty warm shower block, where underfloor heating keeps toes warm even in colder weather.

Everything (almost), would definitely stay here again. The manager sent us an email telling us to go ahead and pitch up on our designated pitch. He then came and found us for a welcome chat a bit later on - a very chilled out and relaxing start. The facilities are great (charging points, fridge freezer, kettle, clean bathrooms with plenty of hot water) the views of the tor and surrounding areas are amazing.

    Disliked:

The road noise could be a problem if you are a light sleeper (didn’t bother us though!)

Location was excellent and the place was attractive overall. Pitches were decently sized and more or less level [needed slight wedge at one wheel]. Facilities were also good - showers very hot - [almost too hot but no means of adjusting temp]., but facilities for charging phones etc, microwave, freezer and wash up were good free and readily accessible. Generally tidy and pleasant.

    Disliked:

It is clearly part of a developing mini resort with self catering etc and there was a distinct impression of it being a work still in progress. Everything up and running, fit for purpose but it all looked like it would be a tad better with another season for it all to bed in and come together. Then it would be getting five stars.

This is an absolutely fabulous site. Small, family run with clean toilet and shower facilities.
The owners are friendly, welcoming and very helpful. We had a problem with our vehicle and needed RAC out. We couldn't leave the site by required time but had nothing but support from the owner.
A lovely site for exploring Glastonbury with fab views. Highly recommended.

The ocation with a view of the tor is fabulous. The site was spotlessly clean & owners / staff very friendly and helpful.

    Disliked:

Sign at main gate said for Glastonbury cottages - but not High Edgarley house. So we missed this and ended up having to manouvere on a tight country lane (as no sign on the gate from the lane with the High Edgarley House sign!).
Adding the name to the sign would have saved us this (or telling us it is signed for that on the pitch up site).
