  • Small, dog-friendly site less than half a mile from the Severn Estuary
  • Clevedon five minutes’ drive; Weston-super-Mare 45 minutes
  • Beach, pier, shops and restaurants within walking distance
Dowlais Farm Holidays is just the place for a peaceful retreat in the company of your loyal canine buddy. Small and quiet, the site sits just outside the seaside town of Clevedon, less than half a mile from the Clevedon Coastal Path (about 15 minutes’ walk), which skirts the Severn Estuary. There’s plenty of water-y scenery around here, not to mention excellent hiking or cycling trails along the North Somerset coast. The spacious pitches are in the orchard of an old dairy farm that has been repurposed into an eco-friendly site (and that is part of the Greener Camping Club). They are regularly rotated, in order to help keep the grass healthy and the pitches clean and green – how splendid. And there’s plenty of space for kids and dogs to play, run around or chill. Active types might be pleased to know that Dowlais Farm is on the Pier to Pier cycling track, which stretches between Clevedon and Weston-super-Mare (which are respectively five and 45 minutes’ drive away, otherwise). After more cycles? The almost 11-mile Strawberry Line is only five minutes’ drive away, and it passes by apple orchards, valleys and the Cheddar Gorge (if you pedal far enough, that is). Shops, restaurants, cafés and pubs are also within walking distance of the site.

What customers say

This small, peaceful orchard campsite receives consistent praise for its spacious pitches, friendly hosts, and clean, eco-friendly facilities, particularly the compost toilets and hot showers. Its location is ideal for coastal walks and cycling. Some guests mentioned occasional issues with boggy ground after heavy rain and noise from nearby roads or aircraft, though these were generally not significant detractors. Waste disposal is not available.

Electric optional grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked A nice small site with some nice pitches, close to Clevedon.

Disliked They didn’t have my booking from pitch up and they put us on a pitch that was very difficult to access due to apple trees and other bushes. This was despite there being a couple of empty pitches in the main site. They need to sort out their booking system and cut back some of the trees.

Electric optional grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked Only 6 placements but set in an orchard. Each placement was very spacious unlike other sites that cram you in. Electric hook up on each placement.
The compost toilets were clean and serviced twice a day. Not at all smelly as advertised. Two showers on site with instant hot water. 2 sinks for washing dishes. As a Green campsite there is no disposal point for chemical toilets.

Disliked Wi-fi would have been nice.

Electric optional grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked Everything! A very nice and quiet stop over. It’s all well laid out with good size pitches and great facilities.
We walked along the coastal path into Clevedon which took about 45 minutes and enjoyed dinner in the Salthouse Pub - an excellent stay overall

Disliked Nothing

Electric optional grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked Still my favourite little campsite! Have stayed at Dowlais a few times now and love it even more each time. It has generously large pitches, compost toilets are very well presented and cleaned regularly. The orchard is so peaceful and quiet with beautiful little walks on your door step. The location is spot on and the hosts are the friendliest you'll get. Everything is well sign posted, showers and wash up station are spot on and always clean and tidy. It's a beautifully small campsite so it's a short walk to the toilets. I highly recommend Dowlais Farm!

Disliked Nothing at all.

Local attractions

Among the attractions of the Mendip Hills National Landscape (40 minutes’ drive) are Cheddar Gorge, with its vertical limestone walls, and a network of caverns including Gough’s Cave. Check out the rock formations – and the shelves full of Cheddar cylinders, ageing in the coolness of the cave. Brunel’s SS Great Britain, in the marina in Bristol (45 minutes), is a Victorian-era steamship with period interiors. Fans of Isambard Kingdom Brunel can see another design by the 19th-century engineer further down the River Avon, at Clifton Suspension Bridge, which links Clifton Observatory to National Trust - Leigh Woods, a forested area inhabited by roe deer, peregrine falcons and bats. On the south-eastern fringes of the Mendip Hills is Wells (50 minutes), known for its splendid 12th-century cathedral. In addition to the spectacular green and gold stained glass of the Jesse Window, the cathedral has a colourful astronomical clock, with jousting knights facing each other every 15 minutes.
