  • Small, dog-friendly site less than half a mile from the Severn Estuary
  • Clevedon five minutes’ drive; Weston-super-Mare 45 minutes
  • Beach, pier, shops and restaurants within walking distance
Dowlais Farm Holidays is just the place for a peaceful retreat in the company of your loyal canine buddy. Small and quiet, the site sits just outside the seaside town of Clevedon, less than half a mile from the Clevedon Coastal Path (about 15 minutes’ walk), which skirts the Severn Estuary. There’s plenty of water-y scenery around here, not to mention excellent hiking or cycling trails along the North Somerset coast. The spacious pitches are in the orchard of an old dairy farm that has been repurposed into an eco-friendly site (and that is part of the Greener Camping Club). They are regularly rotated, in order to help keep the grass healthy and the pitches clean and green – how splendid. And there’s plenty of space for kids and dogs to play, run around or chill. Active types might be pleased to know that Dowlais Farm is on the Pier to Pier cycling track, which stretches between Clevedon and Weston-super-Mare (which are respectively five and 45 minutes’ drive away, otherwise). After more cycles? The almost 11-mile Strawberry Line is only five minutes’ drive away, and it passes by apple orchards, valleys and the Cheddar Gorge (if you pedal far enough, that is). Shops, restaurants, cafés and pubs are also within walking distance of the site.

What customers say

This is a small, peaceful campsite set in a beautiful orchard, offering spacious pitches and a tranquil atmosphere. Visitors praise the excellent, clean facilities, particularly the hot showers and eco-friendly composting toilets. Its close proximity to Clevedon town and the coastal path is a significant advantage. While some minor points were raised regarding insect presence and the initial appearance of the farmyard, the overall experience is overwhelmingly positive, with many guests recommending the site and expressing a desire to return.

Non-electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked Really peaceful and beautiful site. Very small which is perfect if you want a quiet and relaxing time. Fantastic facilities: clean toilets and showers, loads of hot water and even great pressure in the showers! A little gem of a site!

From the manager: Hi Gayle
Thank you so much for your glowing review, we are always so happy when people enjoy staying here and do consider our pitch sizes to be a real bonus and highlight for campers, it just wouldn't have the right feel if we crammed in twice as many pitches and although we could it would not offer our patrons the experience we feel they deserve. We really hope you welcome you back in the future :)

Flo L. 1 review

Non-electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked I could have stayed here for 3 months, the serenity of the site was blissful. It felt so grounding to sleep on the earth in my tent. The orchard trees were so nice. The toilets were very clean and emptied regularly I loved how they made me feel more connected to nature. The showers very nice too.

Disliked Lawn cuttings - although it was lovely to take a sovenir all the way home ☺️

From the manager: Hi Flo, your review did make me smile and we hope to welcome you back for a much longer period next time!! ;) the orchard is the most perfect place to practice grounding isn't it?
With regard to the grass cuttings we intentionally grass cycle in the orchard, by leaving the cuttings vital nutrients and moisture are returned directly back in to the soil acting as a natural slow release fertiliser. Unfortunately this will result in slightly clumping when the orchard is freshly mown, thank you for making light of the situation and considering the grass a souvenir lol!
Will be fab to welcome you back in the future :)

Jane R. 5 reviews

Non-electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked Small, quiet site, nice toilets and other facilities, apple tree to sit under, nice walk to the sea and town.

Disliked There were a few mosquitoes around and we got bitten a few times. I called when we arrived, as instructed, but didn’t get a call back. It took us a while to find the pitch signs in the grass.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Hi Jane
Thank you for your review we are really happy to hear that you had a pleasant stay. We don't require a phone call when campers arrive as the arrivals board has the pitch information you need (we do adopt a generally hands off approach to campers with the exception of the twice daily toilet cleaning) We are however on call should you require anything so not quite sure what happened there, apologies for that! We will look into the visibility of the pitch signs to see if there is anything that we can do to improve this.
Mosquitoes are the pits aren't they, we recommend citronella camping candles to try to keep them at bay, due to the nature of our orchard we can be prone to insects.
We would love to welcome you back in the future.

Local attractions

Among the attractions of the Mendip Hills National Landscape (40 minutes’ drive) are Cheddar Gorge, with its vertical limestone walls, and a network of caverns including Gough’s Cave. Check out the rock formations – and the shelves full of Cheddar cylinders, ageing in the coolness of the cave. Brunel’s SS Great Britain, in the marina in Bristol (45 minutes), is a Victorian-era steamship with period interiors. Fans of Isambard Kingdom Brunel can see another design by the 19th-century engineer further down the River Avon, at Clifton Suspension Bridge, which links Clifton Observatory to National Trust - Leigh Woods, a forested area inhabited by roe deer, peregrine falcons and bats. On the south-eastern fringes of the Mendip Hills is Wells (50 minutes), known for its splendid 12th-century cathedral. In addition to the spectacular green and gold stained glass of the Jesse Window, the cathedral has a colourful astronomical clock, with jousting knights facing each other every 15 minutes.
