  • Small, dog-friendly site less than half a mile from the Severn Estuary
  • Clevedon five minutes’ drive; Weston-super-Mare 45 minutes
  • Beach, pier, shops and restaurants within walking distance
Dowlais Farm Holidays is just the place for a peaceful retreat in the company of your loyal canine buddy. Small and quiet, the site sits just outside the seaside town of Clevedon, less than half a mile from the Clevedon Coastal Path (about 15 minutes’ walk), which skirts the Severn Estuary. There’s plenty of water-y scenery around here, not to mention excellent hiking or cycling trails along the North Somerset coast. The spacious pitches are in the orchard of an old dairy farm that has been repurposed into an eco-friendly site (and that is part of the Greener Camping Club). They are regularly rotated, in order to help keep the grass healthy and the pitches clean and green – how splendid. And there’s plenty of space for kids and dogs to play, run around or chill. Active types might be pleased to know that Dowlais Farm is on the Pier to Pier cycling track, which stretches between Clevedon and Weston-super-Mare (which are respectively five and 45 minutes’ drive away, otherwise). After more cycles? The almost 11-mile Strawberry Line is only five minutes’ drive away, and it passes by apple orchards, valleys and the Cheddar Gorge (if you pedal far enough, that is). Shops, restaurants, cafés and pubs are also within walking distance of the site.

What customers say

This small, peaceful orchard campsite is praised for its well-laid-out pitches, cleanliness, and excellent, hot shower facilities. Guests appreciate the quiet location, convenient access to Clevedon and coastal walks, and the friendly, helpful hosts. While most find the eco-friendly compost toilets effective, some mention the need for improved signage and a lack of certain waste disposal facilities. Minor issues like occasional aeroplane noise and the initial appearance of the farm entrance are noted, but overall, guests highly recommend and plan to return.

Non-electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked We absolutely loved the site! Weather was beautiful and first evening and night was glorious. Unfortunately we had a party with 4 tents and 8 very young children who made a lot of noise and pitched their tents all close together on one pitch. Screaming babies during the night and up at 6 am the next morning running around, riding bikes and playing ‘cricket’ right outside our van 😳
I think the sign says no noise until 7.30 am but this should be made a bit later for non children visitors.
maybe if there are camping parties with 15 people (including kids) and 4 tents, other campers should be made aware? The owner was so lovely and we moved pitch to another further away so the third evening and night were much better.
The facilities are fantastic! Showers were sooooo good! And you don’t pay extra for fire pits and wood which is so rare!
We will definitely go back as it is a beautiful part of the country to visit! We might check that big groups aren’t there at same time though!

Disliked Nothing apart from the sleepless night!

Electric optional grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked Pitches are very spacious. Site facilities weee cleaned every day. Supply of wood was given to use a pit fire or use the large communal one. There are a few pit fires for quests to use located near the toilets.

Disliked There is nothing to dislike.

Electric optional grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked Due to a booking mix-up, we had to be put on a separate "overflow" pitch to the main orchard, which the owners had mowed especially for us in preparation. The weather was dismal, so they also offered to give us shelter in their barn during the evening, and then offered to let us leave the tent up to air on the day of departure, as it was soaking wet, with collection when dry. Excellent customer service all around, they really do care about people having a great time! Compost toilets amongst cleanest facilities we've used camping, and only a short 10 min Uber ride (or 45 min walk if you prefer) to Clevedon proper, for food and drinks. The site was really quiet at night, and the setting is idyllic.

Disliked Nothing to dislike, we have stayed at Dowlais multiple times now, and always have a friendly and helpful welcome from the owners.

From the manager: Hi Kirsty - thank you for coming back to Dowlais Farm time and time again, we really do appreciate it! We will always do our best to ensure anyone who camps with us has a great time and if we can help at all we will.
Sadly sometimes the weather just doesn't play ball does it :(
We look forward to welcoming you back to the farm in the sunshine :)

Electric optional grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked Huge pitches. Lovely site. Close to the sea front ( a 10 min walk) plenty of cycle routes and running routes. A bus straight to Bristol at the top of the road. Logs for a fire if needed. Great showers. Clean and relaxing. Compost toilet was fun. We had a brilliant stay.

Disliked Nothing. We loved it all.

Electric optional grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked Peaceful but some road noise from adjacent road but nothing disturbing, lots of friendly cyclists and walkers using the road nice to say hello to over the hedge.
Very friendly staff. Bit concerned about the compostable toilets but had a chat with the owner and he gave me a good explanation and I have to agree they were clean and not smelly.

Disliked Nothing too dislike for myself and dogs and my daughter who was staying in a local hotel wants to stay in the glamping next time.

From the manager: Hi Adele

Liked Small campsite with 6 pitches and close to coastal path for a stroll into Clevedon, the “green” toilets were a bit of a surprise on first visit, but all was cleaned and tidy . Hot showers too.

Disliked Nothing .

Liked A beautiful flat Orchard site that's never overcrowded. Plenty of hot water in the showers and for washing up. Extremely clean compost toilets, very well looked after by the owners. It's a very peaceful site with lots of wildlife to see and hear. Beautiful walks with a dog or on a bicycle, easy walk to Clevedon seafront via the coastal path. Overall a lovely, welcoming place to stay.

Non-electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked Spacious pitches amongst the apple trees.
There are only 6 pitches so it's quiet.
It's Walking distance to the beach and to Clevedon.

Disliked The washing facilities are not well sheltered from wind and rain.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your review, we're so glad that you enjoyed our little campsite! We assume that the washing area you refer to is the face/handwash station to the left of the showers and have never had any comments like this regarding this area before. We will see if we can do something to improve it!
We do hope to be able to welcome you back in the future :)

Local attractions

Among the attractions of the Mendip Hills National Landscape (40 minutes’ drive) are Cheddar Gorge, with its vertical limestone walls, and a network of caverns including Gough’s Cave. Check out the rock formations – and the shelves full of Cheddar cylinders, ageing in the coolness of the cave. Brunel’s SS Great Britain, in the marina in Bristol (45 minutes), is a Victorian-era steamship with period interiors. Fans of Isambard Kingdom Brunel can see another design by the 19th-century engineer further down the River Avon, at Clifton Suspension Bridge, which links Clifton Observatory to National Trust - Leigh Woods, a forested area inhabited by roe deer, peregrine falcons and bats. On the south-eastern fringes of the Mendip Hills is Wells (50 minutes), known for its splendid 12th-century cathedral. In addition to the spectacular green and gold stained glass of the Jesse Window, the cathedral has a colourful astronomical clock, with jousting knights facing each other every 15 minutes.
