Green setting

  • Small, dog-friendly site less than half a mile from the Severn Estuary
  • Clevedon five minutes’ drive; Weston-super-Mare 45 minutes
  • Beach, pier, shops and restaurants within walking distance
Dowlais Farm Holidays is just the place for a peaceful retreat in the company of your loyal canine buddy. Small and quiet, the site sits just outside the seaside town of Clevedon, less than half a mile from the Clevedon Coastal Path (about 15 minutes’ walk), which skirts the Severn Estuary. There’s plenty of water-y scenery around here, not to mention excellent hiking or cycling trails along the North Somerset coast. The spacious pitches are in the orchard of an old dairy farm that has been repurposed into an eco-friendly site (and that is part of the Greener Camping Club). They are regularly rotated, in order to help keep the grass healthy and the pitches clean and green – how splendid. And there’s plenty of space for kids and dogs to play, run around or chill. Active types might be pleased to know that Dowlais Farm is on the Pier to Pier cycling track, which stretches between Clevedon and Weston-super-Mare (which are respectively five and 45 minutes’ drive away, otherwise). After more cycles? The almost 11-mile Strawberry Line is only five minutes’ drive away, and it passes by apple orchards, valleys and the Cheddar Gorge (if you pedal far enough, that is). Shops, restaurants, cafés and pubs are also within walking distance of the site.

What customers say

A peaceful, small orchard campsite with spacious sites & a warm welcome. Clean, eco-friendly facilities, good hot showers. Great for coastal walks & cycling. Some found facilities basic or noted noise, but most loved the tranquil vibe & green approach.

Primitive grass tent or RV campsite

Liked Peaceful, well appointed site with plenty of trees and considerate campers who created a nice atmosphere. The facilities were excellent and clean and everything felt well cared for. The hosts were responsive to questions. I had a comfortable stay and a very welcome break on a long journey and have booked again to break my journey on the way home.

Primitive grass tent or RV campsite

Liked Loved this campsite, and thoroughly recommend it.
Wide, spacious pitches, all level.

The showers are very clean and powerful, hot water .
We didn't need to use our own washing up liquid as eco liquid is provided and it's REALLY good stuff.

The chemical toilets are amazing, and cleaned numerous times a day.

Located near a supermarket, and a quiet dog walking lane nearby

Dave the owner made several trips to check we were okay and clean the loos.
Very friendly, knowledgeable chap!

We will be back, thank you for one of the best stays

Power optional grass tent or RV campsite

Liked A nice small site with some nice pitches, close to Clevedon.

Disliked They didn’t have my booking from pitch up and they put us on a pitch that was very difficult to access due to apple trees and other bushes. This was despite there being a couple of empty pitches in the main site. They need to sort out their booking system and cut back some of the trees.

From the manager: Hi Simon
Thank you for your review, we are really sorry that you had a negative experience with us. The campsite owners were out for the day celebrating their twin Sons 18th birthday and a genuine mistake was made our end which meant you were allocated a pitch unfavourable to you. I understand that you text Kathrin when you arrived and she admitted the error and offered you to move on to one of the other pitches which as you rightly stated were available. The apple trees and hedges are all properly maintained and are part and parcel of the orchard.
It's really very rare that a booking mix up like this occurs and we did our best to rectify it by offering you another pitch at the time. We can only apologise for the mix up and are sorry that you would not return.

Local attractions

Among the attractions of the Mendip Hills National Landscape (40 minutes’ drive) are Cheddar Gorge, with its vertical limestone walls, and a network of caverns including Gough’s Cave. Check out the rock formations – and the shelves full of Cheddar cylinders, ageing in the coolness of the cave. Brunel’s SS Great Britain, in the marina in Bristol (45 minutes), is a Victorian-era steamship with period interiors. Fans of Isambard Kingdom Brunel can see another design by the 19th-century engineer further down the River Avon, at Clifton Suspension Bridge, which links Clifton Observatory to National Trust - Leigh Woods, a forested area inhabited by roe deer, peregrine falcons and bats. On the south-eastern fringes of the Mendip Hills is Wells (50 minutes), known for its splendid 12th-century cathedral. In addition to the spectacular green and gold stained glass of the Jesse Window, the cathedral has a colourful astronomical clock, with jousting knights facing each other every 15 minutes.
