  • Peaceful site at the foot of the Quantock Hills
  • Three fishing lakes on site
  • A base for Cheddar, Glastonbury and the Exmoor and Somerset coast
Solo sorts, families, couples and most of all anglers… come and get sorted at serene and scenic Burton Springs, for a super stay in a Somerset wildlife haven. This peaceful place is at the foot of the Quantock Hills and a nifty base for getting out around the Quantocks, the west Somerset and Exmoor coastline, and smashing Somerset settings like Cheddar Gorge and Glastonbury Abbey, both under 20 miles away. And if your group are fisherfolk? Cast off on site in the three handsome and well-stocked lakes: there's one each of coarse fishing, carp fishing and cat fishing to keep all angling enthusiasts hooked. Please note that fishing is subject to additional charges and must be booked in advance. (Non-fisherfolk have plenty of wildlife to see, walks to wander and quiet spots in which to hide with a book or three.) Burton Springs is well kept all round by its friendly family team, who've added a spankingly clean shower and washroom as well as a washing-up area for guests' use. There's also a games room for all ages, with table football and a dartboard, a selection of board games, DVDs and reading material, and a small play area in the pitching field with a pirate ship, climbing walls, slides and a basket swing. Food and drinks are available to buy in the site shop.

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked: Great location and excellent hosts - thank you for the walking info! Enjoyable despite appalling weather much of the time.

Disliked: Would have liked a (small plastic?)seat in the showers as struggle with balance. Excellent site

Bayleys Rest camping pod

Liked: Beautiful site, they accommodated us wanting to be close to a relative staying in one of the pods. Really friendly staff. We have previously paid almost double for other sites which have been nowhere near as nice! We had a lovely corner plot looking out to bushes which was lovely. I could see a park for kids and the lake- just wow! There is also a games room!

Disliked: The only thing I can pick on is having to wait for someone to drive down to check you in, but honestly it was 2 minutes so I’m just nitpicking!

Nice site but exspensive when you have to pay extra for a dog.

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked: Great location and facilities. Nice clean showers and toilets. Some lovely walks right from the site.

Disliked: Do not like the fact that it is £5 per dog. I do not agree with having to pay extra for a dog.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Hi thank you for your review. The cost for the dog of £5 is per stay, and goes to help with the cost of the dog bin removal, maintenance of all the dog facilities. (off lead area, dog games/toys, dog shower), im afraid as a small site, as have to charge or we would have no option but to not allow dogs, which is a shame, as we have 2 dogs and think its wonderful to take your furry friends away with you.

Electric optional grass tent pitch

Liked: Site is flat, well maintained and bays are marked so it’s not a free for all with tight spacing. Dog off ledad pen with toys was fab. Toilet/showers clean and plentiful

Disliked: Shower did run out of hot water mid use. People don’t all follow the rules (some noise late and off lead poorly trained dogs) not a owner fault so much. Hinckley building works audible from about 7 am on weekdays

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked: Clean well run site. Handy little shop with basics. Pleny of things in the games room for the kids. Fridge freezer and washing up area with plenty of hot water. Two set of shower blocks, cubicles are toilet and shower combined, very spacious the newest white one is very good is brilliant with powerful shower , without the annoying push-button ( the old one does). All are very clean. However surprisingly no hand drier or paper towels, but a single hand towel, not very hygienic! Water and wastes good clean set-up Fishing lake looks nice and peaceful

Disliked: A bit of a marmite one, camp fires. I appreciate that many people like them, But I don’t, especially being surrounded by them. The site is very remote, everything is a trek away beaches , pub or shop etc.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your review. We are in the country and surrounded by nature. If you looked at google maps before booking you would of seen this. In general things are a 30min drive away. We only have single phase electric, which does not give us enough power for hand driers. also the noise would be disturbing for everyone around the lakes. Paper towels, i'm afraid don't work, as people put them down the toilets and as we are not no mains sewage, but a treatment plant, this would block the pumps and break the tanks. The towels are an alternative and changed 3/4 times a day.

Loved it.

Local attractions

Burton Springs' closest chunk of coast is at Burnham-On-Sea about seven and a half miles away. Seaside resort Weston-super-Mare is a few miles further along the coast from Burnham; for the Exmoor coastline, stretches of shoreline and sand like Kilve, Dunster, Minehead and Porlock are a short drive in the other direction. The South West Coast Path, Britain's longest long-distance path, starts from Minehead on its epic 630 miles via the coasts of Devon and Cornwall to finish up at Poole Harbour in Dorset. If this is a tad too much, other hikes around the region include the Quantock Hills, England's first Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty; Brean Down, a Site of Special Scientific Interest managed by the National Trust, and the Mendip Hills, also an AONB and home to splendidly spectacular Cheddar Gorge. The Burton team also reckons guests should take a look at the small wildlife and adventure park Tropiquaria, the National Trust's Dunster Castle and Fyne Court, the Bakelite Museum at Wilton, the RSPB reserve at Greylake, and the rides and attractions of Brean Leisure Park. Paintballing is available at Cannington Park, nearby at Bridgwater.
