  • Peaceful site at the foot of the Quantock Hills
  • Three fishing lakes on site
  • A base for Cheddar, Glastonbury and the Exmoor and Somerset coast
Solo sorts, families, couples and most of all anglers… come and get sorted at serene and scenic Burton Springs, for a super stay in a Somerset wildlife haven. This peaceful place is at the foot of the Quantock Hills and a nifty base for getting out around the Quantocks, the west Somerset and Exmoor coastline, and smashing Somerset settings like Cheddar Gorge and Glastonbury Abbey, both under 20 miles away. And if your group are fisherfolk? Cast off on site in the three handsome and well-stocked lakes: there's one each of coarse fishing, carp fishing and cat fishing to keep all angling enthusiasts hooked. Please note that fishing is subject to additional charges and must be booked in advance. (Non-fisherfolk have plenty of wildlife to see, walks to wander and quiet spots in which to hide with a book or three.) Burton Springs is well kept all round by its friendly family team, who've added a spankingly clean shower and washroom as well as a washing-up area for guests' use. There's also a games room for all ages, with table football and a dartboard, a selection of board games, DVDs and reading material, and a small play area in the pitching field with a pirate ship, climbing walls, slides and a basket swing. Food and drinks are available to buy in the site shop.

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked Very welcoming and sociable hosts, good clean facilities, level well kept pitches, good cost, easy access from the main roads... What's not to like!
Although not a fisherman myself, on talking to those that were, I got the feeling that the fishing is excellent.

Disliked Nothing!

Lakeside View camping pod

Liked We had a lovely nights stay at Burton Springs, The owners are absolutely lovely too!

The toilets and shower rooms are kept pristine.

The pods have everything you need in them and are super cosy. Well worth your money. We did take our own kitchen bits but if you do forget anything the pods have them in there to use.

The shop also is really reasonably priced! And is a great essential on the site the kids loved grabbing a treat in there.

Disliked I can’t say there is anything we disliked about our stay. There really is not one fault I could give.

Large electric included tent or campervan pitch electric grass campervan or tent pitch

Liked Big open pitches, not too crowded but enough for the kids to find someone to play with, clean shower blocks, good facilities and the little honesty shop was a real helping hand for your evening snack and morning milk. They had a little play park on site and a marquee with activities for the children to do

Lotus bell tent (family)

Liked Pretty much everything! Checking in was so easy and relaxed. The bell tent we stayed in was clean and had everything you needed. The toilet/showers were great and again very clean. It's a fantastic location to explore the surrounding area. We visited Kilve beach and searched for fossils. The Chantrey tea room was just wonderful and a must if you like good cake!!
Audrey's waterfall which is definitely worth a visit! The harbour town of Watchet is stunning and Gareth gave my partner advice on where to get bait whilst we were there for the fishing we did that afternoon. Everyone was so friendly and helpful. We were extremely fortunate that our first 2 nights we were the only people glamping so had the field all to ourselves so the children made use of the space to fly their kite. It was a fantastic break away and we will definitely be booking again in the future.

Disliked Not so much a dislike more a disappointment. When we arrived we were told we wouldn't be able to fish as the fish were spawning. Obviously this is nature and there was nothing we could do about it but was disappointed to see later that evening when we walked around the lakes that someone was fishing the alder pool and again the next day several people were fishing. On the Friday we asked about fishing again to be told yes it was open and we could fish so did half a day that afternoon but sadly caught nothing. Like I say not a dislike more a disappointment as we would have loved to have spent more time fishing than we did.

Local attractions

Burton Springs' closest chunk of coast is at Burnham-On-Sea about seven and a half miles away. Seaside resort Weston-super-Mare is a few miles further along the coast from Burnham; for the Exmoor coastline, stretches of shoreline and sand like Kilve, Dunster, Minehead and Porlock are a short drive in the other direction. The South West Coast Path, Britain's longest long-distance path, starts from Minehead on its epic 630 miles via the coasts of Devon and Cornwall to finish up at Poole Harbour in Dorset. If this is a tad too much, other hikes around the region include the Quantock Hills, England's first National Landscape; Brean Down, a Site of Special Scientific Interest managed by the National Trust, and the Mendip Hills, also a National Landscape and home to splendidly spectacular Cheddar Gorge. The Burton team also reckons guests should take a look at the small wildlife and adventure park Tropiquaria, the National Trust's Dunster Castle and Fyne Court, the Bakelite Museum at Wilton, the RSPB reserve at Greylake, and the rides and attractions of Brean Leisure Park. Paintballing is available at Cannington Park, nearby at Bridgwater.
