Pear Tree Farm: View of site

General

  • Small, friendly site surrounded by the Dorset countryside
  • A 20 minute-drive from West Bay; 35 minutes from Lyme Regis
  • Back to basics, dog-friendly place; pubs five minutes’ drive away

Eyeing up the darling Dorset countryside? Pick yourselves a pretty pitch at Pear Tree Farm, a small, friendly site surrounded by scenic views of the Beaminster Downs. And it's not all about the views – you'll also have access to a good supply of country footpaths here.

As well as those rural hikes, you'll also be able to include coastal activities to your schedule easily enough. Lyme Regis is 35 minutes’ drive away from the site, for days spent foraging for fossils, trying out watersports or chilling out along The Cobb harbour. As for classic beach days, West Bay is about 20 minutes’ drive away.

As a dog-friendly site, you won’t need to leave any faithful canine companions behind on your stay here. If dining out is high up on your priorities for a holiday too, you should be pleased to know that Beaminster is five minutes’ drive away and has several pubs and restaurants for eating out or takeaways.

When you’re looking for a livelier day out, the lovely Weymouth is also 40 minutes’ drive away. Its beach huts, Georgian houses and busy seafront are sure to keep you very occupied for a day.

Safety and security are key features at this site – it's accessed via an electric gate with a key code that's only available to guests. Simplicity is another vital feature too, so please note that there are no toilets or showers on site.

Please note

This site has no on-site toilet and shower facilities.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro).

There is no reception on-site: on arrival please contact the number provided on your booking confirmation.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

The instructions for arrival were sent immediately after booking. On arrival, the site was secure and easy to access. We were able to select our pitch from those available and hook up to the electric, which we had booked. The site has gorgeous views, especially in the evening as the sun sets and is perfect for star gazing. There are sheep and chickens to greet you over the fence. At night there was no noise from the road or the other guest on site. The owner is very friendly and cheerful, popping by to say hello during our stay. This is a back to basics site and perfect for relaxing and unwinding, a joy for walkers and those wanting to get away from the hustle and bustle but still only a short drive away from local amenities. Fresh eggs are available at the entrance, provided by the neighbouring chickens. We had such a peaceful weekend and will definitely be returning.

    Disliked:

Nothing to dislike! Maybe just the walk up the steep drive after a hard day walking, although we were rewarded by the happy little faces over the fence and the fine view.

Very quiet. I only saw 1 other human whilst there which is perfect for me. I felt very safe. I just needed a night to charge up, fill water, empty cassette etc and it was absolutely perfect for that. Tap and charge point right next to my pitch so didn’t have to walk far. A view of the sheep in the field. Everything that I needed. Will definitely come back.

    Disliked:

Not much of a walk for the dog.

From the manager...

A reminder if you want a longer walk for the dog next time just outside the main gate is a large network of footpaths which take you all over beaminster downs which have some stunning views of Dorset’s rolling hills

Local attractions

After you've viewed the Dorset countryside dealt to you on site, track down some pretty spots on the Dorset coast too. Views of Golden Cap and fossils to find make Eype beach (25 minutes’ drive) a good place to start. If your fossil hunting needs haven’t already been met in Lyme Regis and on Eype Beach, Charmouth (half an hour) is another place to continue your search.

A busier beach scene can be experienced in Weymouth (40 minutes), along with an RSPB reserve and an aquarium with an ocean tunnel. Along the south coast, Abbotsbury Swannery (35 minutes) has a colony of nesting swans and the Isle of Portland (55 minutes) is packed with interesting geology and beaches – and in turn, impressive coastal walks and watersports.

History nerds have lots to look forward to too. Forde Abbey House and Gardens (25 minutes) isn’t just a historic country house. Green-fingered folk can pick up some bits in the garden centre. Have yourself a historic hike at Coney's Castle (25 minutes) too, where there’s an Iron Age hillfort and views of Devon and Marshwood Vale.

Must see

  • Mapperton House & Gardens (2.4 miles)
  • Montacute House (8.5 miles)
  • Abbotsbury Swannery (12.6 miles)

National Trust

  • Montacute House (8.5 miles)
